_______________
Selene’s wounds healed without much hassle. Her werewolf healing abilities were enhanced by her immortality and enforced by her confidence—and indifference. How many petty battles had she endured? How many of them were against Kiran? She’d been bitten, scratched, gutted, broken. Every injury was just an inconvenience that delayed her fucking schedule. What fun was sex when she was missing a few strips of skin?
She stood by what she told Seff: she would fight for the rest of forever, for herself and her pack, and that honor was worth being mangled. *Even the deepest scars heal.* Yes, some wounds did take days or a week. They raised and formed ropey, shiny skin. *Over time.* As all things, time changed everything.
She basked in Seff’s attention. The rhythmic lap of her tongue lulled the high of bloodshed. The gashes on her snout hurt the most, but she felt the skin and fur stitching back together, if very slowly. It would still take an hour or so to be close to completely healing. Her forepaw, however, still needed to be set straight.
Her eyes flew open when Seff withdrew. Before she could get a word in, Seff asked quietly, “Are you alright?”
“Yes. Kiran may not be,” she sniggered.
Seff’s ear twitched and Selene realized it was annoyance. Fuck. That wouldn’t happen unless she felt *something* for Kiran. “What—” She was actively trying not to sound accusing, trying not to say, *What did you do?!* It was cute, Selene thought. “What happened?”
“I tore his ear off. The left one, I believe.”
It was difficult for wolf forms to convey strong emotions, but Seff retracted in horror. She clearly wasn’t accustomed to this lifestyle; one out of the comfort of a pack of peace and mortality. “Will it grow back?”
Selene shrugged one shoulder, attempting to care about the bastard for Seff’s sake. “Depending on the severity. I didn’t get a good look.”
It didn’t sit well with her, but Seff eased back down to search Selene’s battered face as if looking for answers. The Luna waited patiently. Surely talk of the gold god would die off now? Finally she asked softly, “Why do I feel so…comfortable with you?”
Seff’s wolf form was ghostly, brilliant white like the moon, and her eyes were the color of spring. Familiar and yet not by the passing of years, it was easy to forget that she was one of the things time changed.
Selene had to make her remember. She forced aside her smugness. Based on what Altan and Elio reported back to her, Seff still hadn’t accepted Kiran. Unfortunately, they’d shared kisses, but they hadn’t knotted yet. *One point Selene. Zero points Kiran.*
She pressed her nose briefly to Seff’s. “Why do you think?”
The Magnolia would have blushed if not in her wolf form. “I don’t know. I wanted to hate you—I *did* hate you—for years, because all you and Kiran did was *take* from my pack. I didn’t understand why you kept on taking us for breeding stock. I thought it was perverse and selfish and…”
She drifted off, thinking she’d said too much. Selene huffed a light laugh. “Brutally honest beneath the shy facade, I see.” Unlike Calla, who was honest inside and out.
“I’m tired of secrets. Truths laid bare is all I want.” Seff’s eyes searched hers and while it didn’t carry the weight of an Alpha’s, Selene felt inclined to surrender to her plea. Seff lifted her chin and said decisively, “I want to sit with you and Kiran until the story you two are writing catches up with mine.”
Selene blinked. Certainly there were things only Kiran knew, things only Selene knew, things they both knew—all things Seff didn’t know. No doubt there was crossover, but Seff only had bits and pieces of the tangled web of history amongst the three of them. How many damn times did the word *truth* come up recently?
“Of course,” Selene promised. Did she mean it? Maybe. She didn’t want to. But if she and Kiran could fill in gaps, there was a chance Seff could *remember*. And Selene could turn the tide in her favor one way or another. “But for now…” She licked Seff’s cheek lovingly slow.
A shiver went through Seff. Selene shoved her satisfaction aside again. “I…I’m finding it hard to hate you, Selene,” she admitted. “But I still don’t know enough about you—or Kiran, for that matter—to know if…”
“If you can begin to at least *like* me?” Selene offered with a lopsided grin.
“Yes. I want to know about you.”
Selene jerked her head at her paw. “Help me set this and I can tell you everything.”
Seff didn’t hesitate. As if she’d dealt with broken bones before, she set them right with a snap that Selene couldn’t help but wince at. Seff turned. “Are you okay?”
Selene quickly licked her ear. “I’m more than good. Now, brace yourself.”
“Brace myself? For what—”
Selene nosed Seff with enough effort to send her sprawling into the pond. The Magnolia yelped and thrashed, but she was quick-witted and Shifted into her human form to find the sandy bottom only five feet below the surface of the water. She scowled unabashedly at the Luna, who was now able to Shift as well. Seff’s face sobered.
“Your nose,” she began.
Selene slid into the water and took Seff against her with a yank. Seff squeaked as their breasts pressed together, Selene’s hands gripping her ass. “Will heal. Kiss me, Seff Bleize.”
Again she didn’t hesitate, as if pulled by some string. “Okay,” she breathed, and her perfect mouth met Selene’s currently imperfect one.
It tasted like spring water, a bit salty and strangely sweet, but the emotion was clean and ardent. Bigger than Seff, Selene hoisted her up so Seff locked her legs around Selene’s lower back, the Luna’s hands braced under her thighs. Seff whimpered and Selene growled in amusement as it catered to her ego—so easy to pleasure a being sexually. The kiss deepened and their slick bodies wanted to meld together. Seff’s arms were braced in Selene’s shoulders, her fingers tangled in her wet mass of black hair, her hips already rolling. Her hips bones knocked against Selene’s and *gods*, the primal urge to knot was unbearable.
“Selene,” Seff gasped against her lips, followed by a groan when Selene broke the kiss to lick and nibble her neck where her scent gland was located. Pond water aside, the scent of an Omega—this Omega in particular—made her Alpha instincts go on the fritz. Seff leaned her head back for better access, her whole body clenching. “Selene…”
“Say my name, my Seff,” purred Selene, releasing her member. She wasn’t in her rut cycle but that didn’t mean her lust didn’t need satiating. “Say you want me. Say you need me.”
“I want you,” she moaned. “I need you. Selene… Oh gods…”
Selene pressed her sex against Seff’s, nudging for entry. Their bodies knew the adjusting needed and it didn’t take long before—*oh fuck, yes.* Selene thrust herself deep and hard and Seff swore. She curved her spine back so Selene could bury her face between her breasts and leave a trail of kisses.
“Are you okay?” Selene grunted when Seff sucked in a sudden breath through her teeth.
“I’m—I’m okay.”
“Does it hurt?” Her mind was hazy but she still knew Seff’s secret as to why it hurt. “Seff, I know you don’t produce slick.”
She froze, her body growing heavy, pulling herself up to meet Selene’s gaze. Desire dimmed in place of dread. “You…you do?”
Selene nodded solemnly. “There isn’t much an immortal can’t figure out. Kiran most likely knows as well. Your heart gives you away, Seff.”
She seemed to forget that the Magnolia was still young and volatile; Seff’s lower lip wobbled and tears sprang to her eyes. Indeed, her heart was pounding against Selene’s, fear like a hammer to the organ. “You…”
To stop her stuttering and ease her worry before it could overflow, Selene closed her mouth with a kiss and rested her forehead on hers. “It’s okay. There is nothing wrong with you, Seff.” She had to address each fear. “You’re not faulty. Not useless. Not unworthy. Not worth killing because you are worth living.”
Seff realized a shaky breath, hiccuping a laugh. “Really? It’s that easy?”
“It’s that easy.” Selene pulled away to look at her. Gods, she was beautiful. “I know you are aware of the Contest between Kiran and me. But you are exempt from it. It is evident that you do not want pups. If you still harbor hate for us or not, we will not force ourselves upon you. Kiran’s has most likely worn down over the years, but I retain my chivalry.”
“I can’t believe it,” Seff laughed; it wasn’t an entirely sane thing. She was delirious with relief. Selene gently resumed thrusting, slow and steady, while offering a growing smirk. “All these years I thought I was broken.” Her voice cracked and she held Selene tighter. “And you tell me I’m not. You, the Luna…”
She kissed Seff again, lingering to prove her honesty. “I am a reasonable wolf to accept the faults of my greatest love, my moonflower. Only for you.”
Seff broke the kiss and reared back. “Your what?”
