Story Q&A/Omegaverse Explained

Hey readers!

I’ve been getting a few questions, so I thought I’d answer them in case anyone else has the same ones! The universe and its rules vary, and in my interpretation, I’ve unintentionally left a lot unsaid. That’s the tricky thing about being a writer: I can understand what I’m writing about, but the goal is for the *reader* to understand! Hopefully this helps, even if it’s longwinded!

First, addressing specific questions:
- No, female Alphas are not transvestites. They have a retractable member.
- Breeding process: don’t think too much into it! :) Alphas, either male or female, can impregnate Omegas, male or female. That and how it factors into their “Contest” will be explained further in a few paragraphs.
- About the twins Altan and Elio: I wanted to get a shock factor. It was a mystery why Aiden August was suddenly out of the picture. Allium was so concerned because she’s essentially a super fan, following the goings-on of the Sun pack like a teenage girl keeping up with her favorite band. We find out through Lona of their tragic conception, and the truth was kept from them, which made them want to figure out who their father was. We then find out that Aiden is a piece of shit. :) Since they are the offspring of a Sky pack mother who is a part of the Moon pack but their father is Sun, Kiran claims the sire has more sway over which pack the twins belong in. To hide their heritage (that they’re not full-blooded Sun and the product of rape), he makes them take the last name Oriana. He doesn’t want the rest of his pack to know he’s housing Moon wolves.
- About Kiran’s dream: Both his and Selene’s pasts are beginning to resurface and haunt them and affect Seff in tandem. It’s yet to be revealed why and how. (Hint, hint: Remember the names they keep asking her about? 🤔).

Aight, let’s get into terms!

This is an Omegaverse novel. It’s a bit unconventional and honestly, I was very weirded out by the concept at first. Wikipedia defines it as “a subgenre of speculative erotic fiction, and originally a subgenre of erotic slash fan fiction. Stories in the genre are premised on societies wherein humans are divided into a dominance hierarchy of dominant ‘Alphas,’ neutral ‘Betas,’ and submissive ‘Omegas’.”
In The Harems of the Alphas (HotA), I took the A/B/O more literally with werewolves. Though I’m not very good at erotica, I do give smut/lemon a try. It’s more “spicy sexual encounters” (thanks to user Jennah_63074 for the perfect description!) than smut lol.

If you do a quick Google search, it’s often boy/boy relationships, but reading about it in **The Unofficial Guide to the Omegaverse** by *Velvelyami* on Wattpad explains that it’s much broader and can be interpreted in many different ways (especially by writers). Beyond its origin in the Supernatural fanfic fandom, it calls on very animalistic attributes, obviously with actual wolves as with the titles of Alpha, Omega, etc., pack mentality, and reproductive features.

In the Unofficial Guide, Alphas are the highest rank. They are very protective of what’s theirs (or think what’s theirs) and can be very aggressive. They have a “knot” at the base of their member; it’s a bundle of muscles that expands when the Alpha engages in sex. Female Alphas, known for being rarer, lack a member, so in place of “a real” one, they have a retractable one. Female Alphas are not transvestites. They don’t have wombs, so they cannot become pregnant. That can be controversial, as it’s viewed as disempowering because the Omegaverse is centered around mating and breeding. Alphas experience ruts, which is the equivalent of a heat for an Omega.

Heats: A heat is what an Omega experience where they’re most fertile. In my universe, they act very similarly to real-life menstrual cycles, occurring roughly every month and last 3 to 7 days. Instead of blood, *slick* is produced, which is a form of self-lubrication, and they are in a constant state of high sexual arousal, and have the desire and need to be sexed up to lessen those intense feelings. An Omega in heat will want nothing more than to physically mate and breed. They are vulnerable when in heat, and their scent and desire grow stronger in the presence of the Alpha.

In HotA, their cycles are written and recorded and converted into a schedule for Kiran or Selene. When a certain Omega is in heat, that is when other Alpha knots/has sex with them with the highest chance of getting them pregnant.

For male Omegas, it’s their only time to “catch,” the word for impregnation. During the heat cycle (*and this is where it gets weird*) a uterus forms. “A muscle opens the uterus within the Omega to allow the seed of the Alpha to catch” (Unofficial Guide). Lacking female reproductive organs, (*also very weird*) they make up for it with the uterus (essentially, as to how I’m interpreting it? I don’t delve too deep into it because, no offense intended, weirds me out too much) being in the anal cavity. Offspring are delivered by C-section.
Selene chooses to impregnate Omegas with her retractable member (for females, through their vagina; males through their anal cavity [butt stuff lol]). She is bitter that she can’t bear children so she does not let males insert into her.

Ruts: A rut is the Alpha version of a heat. They are highly aggressive and dominant. They will do anything and everything to protect their Omega(s). In my universe, it also acts like menstrual cycles, happening every month for 3 to 7 days. In the case of Kiran and Selene, however, they depend on the Omega’s fertility, so they have sex whenever and with whomever they want.

Presenting: When the sex of the wolf is “revealed” at age 18. Like menstrual cycles, they have their first heat/rut between the ages of 12 to 15 for males and females. Before then, they are “titleless,” meaning they don’t have the scent of an Alpha, Omega, or Beta yet. Once they have their first heat/rut, then their scent changes. Each hierarchy has a specific smell: Alphas are musky, Omegas are sweet, and Betas are more neutral/natural. “Presenting” is the public and official way for a wolf in their pack to “come out” and take their “title.”
Scent glands: are located in the wrists and the juncture between the neck and shoulder. The scent is heightened during cycles to attract mates.
If a wolf doesn’t Present as Alpha or Omega, they are Beta, therefore something akin to a “defect.” They cannot Shift because despite being born from werewolf parents, they are essentially human. It’s not looked down upon since it’s common, and take on roles of caretakers or “fuck buddies” to satiate heats if an Alpha isn’t present.
- Alphas get Omegas pregnant
- Omegas cannot impregnate Alphas
- Omegas cannot impregnate other Omegas
- Omegas and Betas cannot reproduce together
- Alphas cannot impregnate other Alphas, but in the case of HotA, it’s rare but can happen

“Delta,” in my version of the universe, is just a title assigned by Kiran and Selene to name them their official right-hand in charge. Sienna Haru and Aiden August of the Sun pack and Lona Mahsa of the Moon are all Alphas.

“Lesser” Alphas: In the two harems, Kiran and Selene are *the* Alphas. In their case, being the “king” and “queen” of their packs/harems, “Alpha” or “Luna” serves as a synonymous title. Lesser Alphas *are* Alphas, but they’re just pack members, mostly their children. They’re only allowed to mate with Omegas Kiran or Selene approve (because they don’t want their children mating with their consorts, lowering the risk of incest) but have freewill with Betas or other lesser Alphas, as they cannot reproduce (which keeps down overpopulation).
The same goes for the other packs. In the Magnolia, Hyacinth is an Alpha, but he’s also *the* Alpha, meaning he is the leader of the pack.

In the case of HotA and Kiran and Selene’s “Contest” (which will be explained in a few paragraphs!), they visit a pack to scent “Potentials” (wolves of the same ages like in classes; a group of 14- or 15-year-olds all together; it’s no more than 12 wolves to a group, and only Omegas are accepted). They return when each age group reaches the age of 18, which is the public event called the Choosing. Of the group lined up like breeding stock ready to be sold, each Alpha will choose which ones they want to join their harem for the specific role of breeding with that Alpha. Not all are Chosen; it’s up to the Alpha how many they want to join. If they both want a certain Omega, the Omega gets to choose one or the other to join.

After decades of Kiran and Selene selecting Omegas to breed with from a variety of different packs (this story consisting of the Magnolia, Sky, Lovell, Moon, and Sun), those packs view being Chosen as a consort for the Sun or Moon harem is a very great honor. To bear offspring with an all-powerful, beautiful, perfect-specimen immortal Alpha while living a pampered and luxurious lifestyle? What could be better? Wolves from very young ages dream of the day they’re Chosen. Some, however (like Seff), believe that being told their fate was already decided was brainwashing, and refuse to be degraded to objects.

Kiran and Selene’s “Contest”: While the concept has yet to dramatically reveal itself (both Alphas keen on keeping it on the down-low), they choose multiple Omega consorts to breed with. As revealed in Chapter 14, Cedar finds out a fraction of the truth: three years ago, the two Alphas created a challenge of who could sire as many pups/children as they can in that time. That is the reason why they travel pack to pack to find ideal, attractive candidates with favorable body types best for bearing children.
At this point in the story, only one year is left of the Contest.
Readers do not yet know what the “prize” for the winner is, but Kiran demands *Seff* be the prize in Chapter 26. It’s unknown still if Selene agreed to the rule change.
If the challenge is to sire many children, it’s still unconfirmed if they decided on a certain number.
It’s unconfirmed *why* they made the challenge, but I can confirm it relates to their boredom with immortality.
The rules are relatively simple:
1. Sire (unconfirmed #) children in the span of 3 years
2. Gender is not specific; females and males bear children, and that’s all that counts.
3. Keep a record/master list of all Omegas, their heat cycles, the day(s) they mate with either Alpha.
4. Another list of each Omega’s offspring. Omegas can have litters between 2 and 4.
5. Each Alpha is required to share the news of each birth with each other. Part of the “fun” of the challenge is passing and falling behind on their tallies. For example, let’s say they both sired 10 pups. If one of Selene’s Omegas gives birth to triplets, that means she’s 3 “tallies” ahead, which angers Kiran because she’s “winning.”
6. At the end of the three years, the Alpha that reaches (# of pups decided), wins (unconfirmed prize).

Selene is 95 years old
Kiran is 130
Seff is 18

~Heaves for breath~

Damn, that’s a lot of reading! Hopefully this clears things up a bit. HotA is largely, especially the first half, unrefined. I tried a fast-paced, less descriptive writing style to start before falling into my more paced, detailed style. My memory absolutely sucks lol, so the deeper I get into the story, the more I might make inconsistencies if I tweaked an idea at the beginning chapters up to the most recent chapter. I apologize for this if anyone catches something!

As always, thank you so so much for reading, and don’t be afraid to sound off with more questions or suggestions!
