34.2 Alexander

"God I wish my parents were alive." I whispered and he gave my cheek a gentle tap before he pulled his hand away.

"Don't we all. If they were alive they'd be teasing me about becoming a realtor since they knew it wasn't something I would ever do" he said with a chuckle as he sat back against the headrest of the sofa and I could tell that he was becoming tired so I stood up and grabbed the empty wine glasses along with the bottle and handed them to Kat who had walked down  the stairs before she walked away with the items I gave her.

"Easy does it," I said belong Marcus to his feet making the older male stumble on his feet before I led him to the stairs.

"I already got the guest room ready," Kat said when she joined me in helping Marcus up the stairs and I gave her a grateful smile,

"Alessandro and Valentina would have loved you." Marcus muttered looking at Kat with a small sad smile which she returned.

"I would've loved them too" she replied as we struggled to carry a very drunk realtor down the hall towards his room. I could see light coming from Hayden's room but it was to be expected since that kid doesn't go to bed until 3 in the morning on the weekends.

"You got him?" Kat asked when we entered the first room that was three doors away from ours before waking in and pulling the blankets back before helping me lay him down on the bed.

"Why does God always take the good ones?" He asked as he stared at the ceiling and I looked over at Kat who gave a small smile.

"We don't know, Marcus." I murmured, "get some rest."

"You're just like your father, Alexander" he commented looking at me with a smile though I could see the pain in his eyes as he said those words, "always looking after his friends" He fell asleep as soon as those words left his lips and I swallowed the knot in my throat as I helped take his shoes off before pulling the covers over him. He muttered something under his breath but it wasn't clear so Kat and I decided to head to bed since it was now past midnight already. We looked inside the nursery and smiled as Savanah was fast asleep in her crib then tapped on Hayden's door and he opened it poking his head out.

"Bed, now," Kat said and he nodded giving her a kiss on the cheek while he gave me a small wave before going back into the room and closing the door behind him.

"Did you learn anything new about your parents?" Kat asked as she climbed into the bed while I made my way into the closet to grab a pair of checkered pants and a gray t-shirt before changing out of my suit and tie.

"My dad used a cheesy pick-up line to woo my mother," I said and she smiled resting her head on my chest once I had climbed in beside her and I pressed a kiss to her temple.

"Yeah what kind of pick-up line did he use?" she asked making me chuckle Jauregui remembered.

"He said and I quote 'You must be an interior decorator because when you walked in the room was suddenly beautiful and perfect!'"

"Awe that's actually so sweet." she awed making me chuckle.

"It sure is since he got the girl," I said and she hummed.

"And a perfect son as well" she added and I looked down to see that she was looking  at me already making me lean down and plant a soft kiss on her lips,

"And you are their daughter-in-law" I whispered making her smile.

"Love you" she whispered as she pressed a kiss to the center of my chest where my heart rested.

"I love you too" I whispered holding her close against me and if she was concerned about it, Kat didn't say it instead she wrapped her arm around my waist and held me just as close as if saying I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, I promise I felt my eyes sting as I laid a kiss to the top of her head and let's just say that o spent the next several hours wide awake holding my fiancé on my arms as if I'd lose her if I closed my eyes. I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost her. My world would fall completely apart because she is my world. Everything I do, I do it for her, for our daughter and for Hayden as I see him as a little brother and for my parents may their souls Rest In Peace.

I will make sure Angelo and Margaret pay for what they did not just to me but to my parents as well if it's the last thing I do.

And as the sun began to rise on the horizon, I fell into a peaceful sleep with the woman I love in my arms knowing that my daughter and brother-in-law were safe and sound in their rooms down the hall.
