9. You are special, my foot!
“Lilith, open the door!” Damen knocked for the millionth time, and I could almost sense his patience running out.
I snuggled closer to my pillow and curled up in a corner of the king sized bed that was covered in comfortable, silk sheets.
“Lilith, open the damn door or I swear, I will break it down!” his voice was raised this time, but, if he thought that I cared then he was wrong.
I was proud of myself for not even flinching, when he kicked the door open with whatever ultra supernatural strength he possessed. He took one look at me and the anger in his eyes melted into concern.
“Lilith, what happened?” he walked towards the bed and sat down in the empty space beside me, “are you sick?”
I shoved away his hand that was reaching to touch my forehead for checking the temperature.
“It doesn’t matter,” I met his eyes, from my position, “it doesn’t matter if I am sick, I am dying in one week anyway.”
His eyes flashed with confusion before realization flickered across them and he glanced at me worriedly, “Did anyone come to you with the news of those tests?”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” I asked quietly, “I don’t want to train or participate in those tests.”
“Your attitude screams all sorts of lazy, right now,” he rolled his eyes, “if you want to survive in this realm, then, you have to pass those tests. There’s no other alternative. It’s for your own safekeeping.
I inhaled sharply and sat up in my place, clutching the pillow close to my chest, and staring straight ahead, “I didn’t ask to be a part of any of this. I don’t want to be a part of this. I miss my family. I miss my home.”
I didn’t like the way my voice broke towards the end. I swallowed the lump in my throat, as my eyes burned with unshed tears.
There was long silence, and I almost thought that Damen hadn’t heard me. I didn’t dare to turn and look at his face, for the fear of his reaction. Okay, so yeah, I may have gone too far with my words, but, it was what it was. It was not in my control to change how I felt about…all of this.
I was in for a big surprise however, when Damen opened his mouth again and said the words I was never expecting to hear.
“I am sorry.”
I got a whiplash from turning my head towards him in lightning speed, with my eyes widened to the eyes of saucers.
Whoa…wasn’t this the guy who told me that he never apologized?! Did my hit my head or did I hear him wrong?
All my worries for forgotten for a second, as I tried to make sense of Damen’s words, “Come again? Are my ears deceiving me? Did you just say sorry?!”
“Don’t make me take it back,” he said flatly.
I tossed my pillow aside, and shifted closer to him, “Man, I missed my chance to record a golden moment.”
He gave me a look of disbelief, “You were on the verge of crying seconds ago. What is this all of a sudden?”
I gave him a grin, hoping that it would annoy him, “The power of sorry, especially coming from you. I feel so special, damn, it’s like I have accomplished something big.”
My grin faltered when I saw the serious look on his face. Shit, did I say something wrong again? But, I was just kidding-
“Lilith,” his hands reached up to cup my cheeks, as he stared into my eyes, “you should know that you are special.”
The emphasis on the ‘are’ wasn’t lost on me, and I couldn’t help the flutter that was caused in my heart from his sincere words. I couldn’t even form a reply, just hoping that he wouldn’t notice the blush on my cheeks.
“Of course, you are special,” he continued, “You are mated to me. You are one lucky girl, Lilith.”
It took me a moment to register his words, and I blinked several times. When I saw him biting his smile to retrain his amusement, it finally dawned upon me. I jumped away from him.
“You- you over confident, narcissistic, egotistical pig!” I fumed, picking up a pillow and tossing it at him in rage.
He dodged it, of course, and then fell on his back, laughing uncontrollably.
“You should have seen the expression on your face,” he said in between his laughter, “damn, I go you good. Your reaction was so worth it.”
I took deep breaths to calm myself down. I couldn’t believe I fell for that. Ugh!
“You are more annoying than Aiden,” I muttered, plopping down on the bed.
His laughter suddenly ceased, and I realised what I had said. I turned to him to fins him glaring at me.
“What did you say?” he bit out in a menacing tone.
Well, he asked for it, to be honest. I didn’t regret a thing.
“I said you are more annoying than Aiden,” I repeated smoothly, crossing my arms over my chest.
In an instant, Damen had me pinned to the mattress as he hovered above me, staring at me with an icy look in his eyes. The temperature suddenly seemed to have dropped a few degrees and I felt goosebumps rise on my bare arms. I wanted to move, but, I couldn’t. He had me hypnotized under his gaze.
“My patience is running thin here, Lilith,” he said coldly, as his face leaned closer to mine. The hot breath that fanned my face was in stark contrast to the frost of his voice, and I didn’t know whether I was excited or afraid.
Was it possible to be hot and cold at once?
“I-I was j-just-” I stopped when I realized that the pathetic stuttering was not helping my case.
Damen leaned even closer, and his lips almost touched a sensitive area of my neck, making me shiver. I felt his lips turning up in a smile, as if he was aware of the effect he had on me.
“You were just what, Lilith?” he breathed against my neck.
My back arched automatically, and my hands fisted around the sheets, as I tried to keep the weird tingles coursing through my body under control. No, no, no, this was not good. I couldn’t let him have such power over me. I was not ready for this. I didn’t want to-
All my thoughts went down the drain, when I felt his lips finally coming in contact with my skin. A moan escaped me, much to my horror and embarrassment.
Damen looked up to meet my eyes with his unnaturally darkened ones. My breath hitched in my throat, when I saw how beautiful he looked, with his sexily messed up hair, surreal eyes and pink, kissable lips. What did I do to deserve this gorgeous being?
But, the moment was broken and suddenly my hear started racing for a different reason when I caught the glint of something…something like a fang, when his lips parted. His breathing suddenly got heavy, and his eyes kept switching between their original stormy blue and the beastly dark purple.
Don’t tell me- was he losing control?
He let out a loud growl and in a flash, he disappeared from above me, and his back slammed into the wall, a few feet away. His head was hanging low with his fists clenched to his sides, and he was inhaling and exhaling loudly as if he had just run a marathon.
“D-Damen?”
He let out a warning growl, as if asking me to keep my mouth shut. And, before anything else could happen, he was out of the bedroom, faster than I could say ‘stop.’

“Get up!”
I groaned, clutching the sheets tighter in my sleep, “Just five more minutes!”
“You have been saying that for the last half an hour. Get up, we are getting late.”
“Please, just five seconds, I promise,” I mumbled, pulling the silk cover over my head, and turning over to the other side.
“Lilith, don’t force me to take drastic steps,”
I didn’t have the energy to say anything. Sleeping was the better option, anyway. I was about to go back towards the deep end of my dreamland, when suddenly, there was a loud splash and I woke up with a start, coughing and spitting out water.
“What the fuck, Damen?!” I shrieked, shooting him a glare when he gave me an innocent smile.
“We are getting late for your training,” he said, grabbing my hand to pull me out of the bed, “get ready in ten minutes. We will be hitting the gym first.”
“Ew, what did you just say?” I asked in disgust, “I am not going to the gym and I am not going to train. I want to sleep, eat and repeat. Please, leave me alone.”
“You don’t have exactly have a choice, princess,” he rolled his eyes, and pushed me in the direction of the bathroom, “go and get fresh, and you better leave your lazy ass behind before coming downstairs.”
I exhaled in frustration and got in to take a shower. When I came out and checked the closet for clothes, I was surprised to see a large variety of clothes that was exactly my size waiting for me. There was even underwear that too not so surprisingly, fit me perfectly. So, that asshole guessed my correct size, huh?
I walked downstairs, to find Damen nowhere in sight. I fist bumped the air and ran into the kitchen to find myself something to eat first.
I was in the middle of stuffing my mouth with a granola bar, and washing it down with a glass of juice, when the front door suddenly opened to reveal two men.
Damen was watching me with his mouth agape, and the grey haired man beside him who was no doubt his father, going by the similar features, was giving me a full on judgmental, disappointed look
Let’s just say that it was not my fault that I choked on my granola bar and spit out my orange juice.
