Jake's Wedding
Jacob practically whisked me up the grand staircase, his strong grip propelling me towards our opulent chamber. We entered and, a burst of euphoric laughter escaped his lips, filling the room with an air of mirth and delight.
"Pray tell, what has tickled your fancy so?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued by his infectious amusement.
"The sheer astonishment etched upon your countenance when the realization dawned upon you that they are to be wed today," he replied, his laughter subsiding but a mischievous glint still dancing in his eyes.
A wave of conflicting emotions washed over me, a tumultuous sea of longing and resignation.
"How does it feel, my dear, to know that the love of your life is about to embark on a journey of matrimony with another?" he inquired.
"Like I have previously expressed, our connection transcends the boundaries of romantic love," I retorted. "We are but kindred spirits, dear friends, and I simply wish to prevent him from making a grievous mistake."
Jacob was skeptical, his tone dripping with incredulity.
"Yes, of course," he scoffed, his eyes narrowing ever so slightly.
"Prepare yourself, my dear, for the grand affair that awaits us."
Summoning every ounce of resolve within me, I adorned myself in the finest garments, meticulously selecting each piece to exude an air of regality. I neared the completion of my sartorial transformation. Jacob gracefully entered the room, a glimmering crown in his hands.
"You are a vision of beauty, my dear," he whispered, his voice filled with admiration.
"Thank you, Jacob.”
“ Might I add, you look resplendent as well, though your tie is slightly askew."
With a gentle touch, I rectified the minor imperfection, marveling at the unexpected attention to detail.
"I had no idea you cared so deeply."
"My mother always espoused, one's appearance is of paramount importance," I replied.
Drawing me closer, he pressed his lips against mine, a tender and deliberate kiss that threatened to consume us both. He was on the verge of uttering his thoughts when a gentle knock resonated upon the door.
"Enter," he commanded.
The door swung open, revealing the figure of Jake, who stood with unwavering respect.
"Your majesties, the bride-to-be has beseeched me to inform you that the grand ceremony is poised to commence," he announced.
A nod of gratitude escaped his lips as he acknowledged Jake's presence.
"Thank you, Jake.”
“We shall descend promptly."
Jake bowed before him. Jacob admired the Jakes loyalty.
"Your majesty, you are resplendent," Jake complimented, his words a testament to his unwavering devotion.
"Thank you, Jake.”
“You, too, possess an undeniable handsomeness," I responded, my voice filled with sincerity.
With a graceful bow, Jake retreated from the room, leaving him to conceal the ache that lingered within his eyes. Without a moment's respite, Jacob seized my arm and guided me forward, our steps echoing with purpose as we made our way toward the chapel.
The weight of all eyes upon me was an unwelcome burden, one that I despised. We reached our designated thrones and, we settled into their regal seats, preparing ourselves for the spectacle that was about to unfold.
My heart yearned to seize Jake's hand and flee from this charade, to escape the clutches of this unwanted union. I remained rooted in place, my desires suppressed by the weight of duty. While the sacred vows commenced, my attention was drawn to Jake, who hesitated for a fleeting moment. A piercing gaze was directed towards Vivian's father, a silent warning conveyed through his stance.
With unwavering resolve, Jake proceeded to recite his vows, while Vivian, with a voice filled with conviction, uttered the words "I do."
The priest, with a voice that resonated through the hallowed halls, posed the question, "Does anyone object?"
Inwardly, I yearned to interject, to declare my dissent, but my voice remained stifled, as did Jake's.
The priest, sensing no opposition, proclaimed, "I now pronounce you man and wife."
The air grew heavy with anticipation as the command to seal their union with a kiss was given. Without hesitation, Vivian stepped forward. Vivian wasted not a moment as she gracefully approached, her steps exuding elegance and her lips meeting his in a fervent and impassioned kiss.
The onlookers erupted in jubilation, their applause resonating through the chapel as they made their way towards the dining room, where the grand reception awaited. While the others departed, Jacob chose to linger, basking in the joyous atmosphere and extending his heartfelt felicitations to the newlyweds.
"Congratulations, my dear friend," Jacob offered.
"May your union be blessed with boundless prosperity and an abundance of love."
Graciously, the groom responded, addressing him with utmost respect, "Thank you, your highness."
I noticed Jake's deliberate avoidance of meeting my gaze, a subtle indication of his inner turmoil.
"Jake, may I have the pleasure of conversing with your enchanting bride for a few fleeting moments?" "Certainly, Your Highness."
"Vivian, although you have recently embarked on the sacred journey of matrimony, I implore you to accompany me tomorrow to settle a crucial war treaty."
"I would be honored, Your Highness, but our nuptials have just transpired."
"Vivian, that is precisely why I granted you the liberty to embark on my and Katherine's honeymoon."
"I require your esteemed diplomatic status."
"If that is your requirement, why not bring your queen?"
"Due to her delicate condition, I must ensure her safety within these walls."
"Moreover, I shall make it exceedingly worthwhile for you."
"Sire, we are both wedded individuals."
"Neither of our spouses need be aware."
"You shall become my cherished confidante."
"I shall lavish you with resplendent jewels and boundless affection."
"I shall undertake this endeavor, Your Majesty.”
“When shall we embark?"
"We shall depart at the break of dawn tomorrow."
"I shall rendezvous with you in the courtyard at the first light of day."
"Now, venture forth and indulge in the grandeur of your nuptial celebration, for on the morrow, you shall come to comprehend the essence of a true gentleman."
"I eagerly anticipate your presence, Your Majesty."
"I offer my sincerest apologies, dear companion, for the delay.”
“It was a matter of utmost importance that simply could not be postponed."
"Fret not, my dear friend."
They departed from the sacred chapel, Jacob beseeched me, "Pray, let us tarry for a moment."
"I complied with his request."
Once Jake and Vivian were no longer within sight, he inquired, "How does it feel to witness him in the company of Vivian?"
"I am elated that he has chosen such a remarkable lady."
"You harbor no resentment whatsoever?"
"Nay, I rejoice in the happiness of my dear friend."
“Dearest Katherine, I must inform you that I shall embark on a prestigious business expedition tomorrow, accompanied by Vivian.”
“My absence shall extend for a month, but fret not, for your safety shall be of utmost importance.”
“Jake shall be assigned to protect you, my dear, although he shall not trespass into our private chambers unless dire circumstances befall you.”
“My love, we shall safeguard our precious child with unwavering devotion.”
“Pray tell, when do you depart?”
“At the break of dawn, my departure is imminent.”
“Come, my beloved, we must not tarry, for the ceremonial affair awaits our presence.”
Throughout the night, Jake's gaze evaded mine, as if avoiding my very existence. Jacob and I shared a solitary dance, my stomach churned with unease, yearning for respite. Several individuals approached us, and I found sorrow in Jake’s deliberate disregard for my presence.
Desperately, I sought Jake's attention, covertly attempting to engage him in conversation. He acknowledged me with a mere nod, before turning his attention back to Vivian. I confess a pang of jealousy consumed me, for I once envisioned a grand union between Jake and myself, a dream now shattered.
The chapel would have been adorned with a lavish display of pure white rose petals, creating a heavenly atmosphere. My beloved would have been standing at the altar, donning a dashing tuxedo, his charming smile illuminating the room as I gracefully walked down the aisle.
My dress was a masterpiece, a form-fitting bodice that elegantly flared out at the bottom, crafted from delicate lace in an intricate pattern of leaves and flowers. The sweetheart neckline and buttercup sleeves added a touch of sophistication to the ensemble. My long veil would have trailed behind me, creating a stunning vision of beauty.
I approached the altar. My beloved would have taken my hand in his, and we would have exchanged the sweetest vows, promising to love and cherish each other for eternity. Once he lifted the veil, I would have blushed at his words of admiration, telling me how breathtaking I looked. Our lips would have met in a gentle kiss, sealing our love forever.
The reception hall would have been a grand affair, with elegant decorations and a sumptuous feast. We would have danced to my favorite song, my beloved wrapping his arms around my waist, and leading me through the dance floor. I would have spun and twirled, lost in the moment, with my skirts falling just perfectly. Jacob's voice snapped me back to reality.
"My dearest, are you well?" he inquired with a tender voice.
"I was simply lost in my thoughts," I replied, my mind still wandering.
"You were humming," he pointed out, his eyes fixed on me.
"Would you care to dance?" he asked, extending his hand.
"I would be honored, my lord," I responded.
Jacob took my hand. A sharp pain shot through me. I tried to hide it. He led me to the dance floor, and my mind drifted back to the first time I danced with Jake.
It was a magical night, under the full moon in the springtime. We met in the fields behind his estate, and he spun me around with such grace. The fireflies danced around us, and I couldn't help but giggle with delight. He smiled at me, and I felt like a child again, believing in the magic of romance. I never wanted the moment to end, but alas, it did.
He kissed me gently. I felt my cheeks flush with warmth. His sister watched from her window, throwing flowers at us. Suddenly a royal carriage approached.
He whispered to me, "Go through the woods.
“ The trees will keep you hidden, and it's the quickest way back to your home."
He kissed me once more. He promised to make his intentions clear so that we could be married. Eight years later, I stood at the altar with Jacob by my side. We exchanged vows. I thought back to that magical night under the moon. I was abruptly jolted back to reality as Jacob's lips delicately brushed against mine, a gentle reminder of the world we inhabited.
"You appeared to be lost in the depths of your thoughts," he remarked, his voice dripping with concern.
"I was merely reminiscing," I replied, my mind still lingering in the past.
With a graceful gesture, he guided me back towards the opulent balcony, a sanctuary of tranquility amidst the grandeur that surrounded us. I locked eyes with Jake. A flicker of longing passed between us, only to be swiftly concealed. I desperately yearned to whisk him away from this ostentatious castle, to return to the idyllic fields that lay behind his humble abode.
He had once made me a solemn vow, and my heart ached for him to honor it. I yearned to be his cherished wife, for life was infinitely more uncomplicated when I clandestinely slipped out of my own dwelling to rendezvous with him. I vowed to find a way to liberate us both from this gilded cage.
When Vivian, our esteemed hostess, announced that it was time to retire for the night, I endeavored to capture his attention, but he merely bid "Good night, your majesties," before gracefully departing with Vivian, leaving me yearning for his presence.
Jacob, ever the gentleman, bid farewell to the other esteemed guests before escorting us to our lavishly appointed chamber.
