Chapter 33

Max called Lennox again. Lennox was lounging on a swing chair just by the window. Watching the streets below. Hester had promised to stop by and he halfed hoped she wouldn't since he'd given a thousand excuses but she wouldn't hae none. He preferred his solitude. The few times he spent alone, not working were valuable to him.
"Max, man. Good morning".
"Ah,. Lennox. How are you mon ?"
Max asked. He was sounding more blithe compared to the last time he'd heard him speak.
"I'm fine, Max. How are you?"
"I'm good. It's winter, how's it with you over there?"
"Well, maybe you forgot but I'm in Florida. It hardly ever snow here"
"And I see how you're totally speaking American. The accent's good on you"
Max commented. Lennox couldn't hold back his laughter. He laughed for a few seconds and Max was patient enough to wait for him to finish before saying anything else.
"You never said anything about Kimberly Foster, Lennox. I want to see the wench again. You keep dismissing__"
"Well, Max. I don't think the wench wants me. It'd be better if you took your mind off of her".
"Why's that?"
"I don't know. I proposed marriage to her and she fled without as much as telling me. Maybe I was too hasty. Maybe she didn't trust me enough to consider marriage with me. She's in New York now though but she doesn't take my calls", Lennox explained. He'd really love Max to get off his neck and stop thinking of the possibility of a relationship with Kim and he hoped that opening up and telling him the actual situation of things would help him understand better.
"You never told me this, Lennox"
"You would have done something about it?", Lennox asked mockingly. Max snorted before begining to again.
"Well, why would a woman run away from a man who proposed marriage other than the fact that she didn't or still doesn't want trust him. You should learn ways to woo a woman without much ado. Make yourself indispensable to her and she'd come to need you", Max said.
"Got It, Max", Lennox replied even though he knew for a fact that he'd never go searching for her inorder to make himself indispensable to her.
" Blair has fixed a date for his marriage. You should be in attendance. You should not come alone, too. Methinks Vera is carrying a Bairn too. I've not been told but so I think".
" Alright, Max. Do have a good day".
Lennox hung up and picked up his coffee again.
By the time Lennox finished his call with the real estate agent that afternoon, his doorbell was ringing. All day, he'd mused over his timethe few times he spent with Kimberly. The time in Scotland. The times in his own apartment and the times in hers. He'd been so overcome with the urge to have sex..his loins groaned and screamed and for the first time that day, he prayed Hester would drop by as she'd promised.
When he opened the door to her, he was suddenly overcome with a ferocious arousal that irritated him.
"Welcome, Hester. How's your day been?", He questioned as she walked in, smiling.
"Pretty great. Yours?"
"Same too. Please sit, Hester. What would you like?"
"Oh, sure", she said as she dropped to the chair " and, for what I would likeI should have you", she said suggestively. Lennox let out a sharp breath and willed himself to be calm. He began to feel his flaming manhood lose it's vigour and It pleased him. The thoughts of Kim had turned him on but sitting right in front of him was someone not Kim.
" Hester, say what you'd like", he said politely and he watched her face turn into a pout.
"I already did", she insisted and then proceeded to kick her shoes off.
He watched her carry out the ritual of massaging her heels right after she kicked her shoes off. He sat across her and began some conversation about work but she was on her feet soon and heading to the kitchen.
"I'd like a glass of water", she said absently as she made her way to tbs kitchen. Lennox sat there. Looking at the same spot she'd been sitting until she returned cradling a glass of water in both hands. Her bare meticulously polished feet looked as elegant as the other parts of her body and he didn't feel a thing for her.
"Well, you were talking about work, Lennox", she said, crossing her legs provocatively..
Lennox smiled knowing that he would take her if he wanted and not because she showed him some thigh. Her pattern of seduction, he thought, was hackneyed and ostentatious and so he made a point of smiling at her, little teasing smile that made her heart flutter and cause her heart to beat in an unsteady rhythm.
In the end, Hester was worried that Lennox didn't want her and she did nothing to tame her anger..
"Why, Lennox.. just about how hideous do I appear to you?", She asked somberly. Lennox was taken aback at the bluntness of her question
"What does that mean, Hester? Whoever called a gorgeous woman like you, hideous?"
"Well you did! Your actions and everything screams ' hideous woman' at me, Lennox!", She said petulantly. Lennox was amused. The fact that a woman had come to his House only to try wooing him was amusing to him but he hated to make her feel bad..
"Hester, that's not true. I don't _"
"Well you do! I do not appeal to you do I?"
"Hester you're very beautiful woman. You're gorgeous and strong and intelligent and I would give the world to have you if you were the one for me but I'm sorry. I can't just jump into bed repeatedly with you knowing I have no emotional attachment with you", he explained. He sounded rational enough to her and for minutes, she sat there staring at him and fuming.
???????
Kimberly was at the police station to state her suspicions about Hailey and the woman police who'd talken her report was pleased that she was genuinely concerned over someone else.
"You know, miss, the world would be better If more people made reports like this and saved others. We will look into this as soon as possible, thank you ".
Kimberly nodded. As she stepped out of the police station, her phone beeped. She took it out of her purse and read the text. It was a reminder of the dinner date with Cindy.
She got home and immersed herself in a tub full of hot water. It was growing steadily cold and she couldn't help being cold!
At 6:00 PM, she left the tub and started to dress up..she picked a red turtle necked dress that reached all the way to her knees and flayed at the hem. It had no design whatsoever and she liked the simplicity of the dress. She was in front of the mirror and longer than usual and she began to hallucinate. Lennox had walked in and grabbed her by the waist trailing soft feathery kisses down her neck. Her eyes were shut and for moments, she reveled in her hallucinations. When she forced her eyes open, her her neck was tiltted to one side and her hands were hugging her. Right across her stomach. Just where she'd imagined his hands were.
It was few minutes past seven when she rang the doorbell at Cindy's and at once, the door was opened to her.
"Hello, beauty", Cindy greeted smiling. Kim smiled back.
"Good evening, Cindy", Kimberly greeted back. Her smiled a chaste one.
"Welcome to my home!"
She screeched excitedly before leading the way up to the already set table.
Kimberly wasn't counting on seeing someone else and so when the doorbell rang and Cindy exclaimed,
"That must be Walker!", She was taken aback. Walker was her son. The impresario in Toronto. She held her breath and tried to focus on just standing and smiling while Cindy hugged Walker, help him out of his coat just like she'd helped her and began to lead him to the dinning area.
"Oh, dears, I'm so happy to have you two. Walker, this is Kimberly, a friend from church and Kimberly, this is my son, Walker. He's based in Toronto. He came in to see me here in New York!", She stepped back as Walker took Kimberly's hand in his and said Hello.
Kimberly didn't know she'd be so carried away staring at the Debonair gentleman and listening to his fluent speech as they settled for dinner.
He was handsome and very young. About her age. His dark sand beige color hair shone under the translucent light and beautiful mouth was ever set in a small smile. He looked too perfect for the room, for the meal. He are beautifully. Chewing greens and fork fulls of rice meticulously. Cindy talke more. About Church, asked them about their jobs and laughed heartily when Walker made a small joke. A funny small joke. Kimberly got to know that Cindy's late husband had been In the Army.
"You're beautiful", Walker said, suddenly startling her. He was looking at her directly. Unabashedly and Kimberly said,
"Thank you, Walker. You don't look bad yourself".
After the meal, Cindy showed her round the house and stopped continually to say.
" I do appreciate God, my dear"
And Kimberly always nodded.
By the time Kim was ready to go, it was past nine O'clock and it only seemed normal for Walker to offer her a ride home. She kissed Cindy goodnight and promised to be in church come Sunday upon Cindy's insistence.
"Where do you live?", Walker asked the moment they were in the car. She mentioned it to him and he nodded. He seemed to know the town just as well as it's inhabitants. Perhaps, he grew up in New York.
"How long ago did you move to Toronto? You seem to be very familiar with this town", Kimberly ventured. He smiled.
" Well, I happen to be familiar with these parts and not the entire New York. I moved to Toronto five years ago. Pretty cool place, if you ask me".
She nodded.
" I see".
" Yeah. So, you're an actress . God's been bringing actresses to my way a lot recently".
Kimberly laughed. She didn't know if indeed she'd been brought to his way but somehow, she felt the need to laugh and she did.
" you're beautiful, Kimberly Foster", he said and Kimberly said another thank you to the compliment.
