CHAPTER 32
Dr. Brooks addressed Ralph and Sauna. "Mr. Thompson and Madam Thompson," she began with her voice heavy with regret, "we have done everything we can, but Sir Thompson's condition is critical. The toxins have spread through his system, affecting multiple organs. I'm sorry, but death is certain."
Sauna gasped, her knees buckling. Ralph caught her, holding her tightly as she sobbed uncontrollably. "There must be something you can do," she pleaded, her voice cracking with desperation. "He can’t die. He just can’t."
Dr. Patel shook his head, his expression one of deep sympathy. "The only thing we can offer is a drug that might extend his life by a day, but it won’t change the outcome. The poison has done irreversible damage."
"Poison?" Ralph repeated, his voice filled with shock and anger. "Are you saying someone poisoned my father?"
Dr. Brooks nodded solemnly. "Yes. We found traces of a rare toxin in his system. It was administered in a way that caused gradual organ failure."
Sauna's sobs intensified. Despite her extramarital affairs, she had never stopped loving Jaden. He was the cornerstone of the Toni family's wealth and influence.
His death would not only shatter their personal lives but could also spell disaster for their financial empire. She had authentic information that JFlier Group, once thriving under Ralph’s leadership, was now crumbling under Charlie's mismanagement. Losing Jaden without him transferring his undisclosed investments could mean the end of the Thompson family legacy and even that of the Toni family!
"Isn't there anything else you can do?" Sauna begged, her eyes filled with desperation. "Please, I'll pay any amount."
Dr. Patel placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I’m truly sorry. We've exhausted all medical options. We can only make him comfortable and extend his life by a day."
Ralph, his face a mask of determination, turned to the doctors. "What if I treat him myself?" he asked, his voice steady but filled with a steely resolve.
The room fell silent. Dr. Brooks and Dr. Patel exchanged puzzled looks. "You’re not a medical professional, Mr. Thompson," Dr. Brooks said gently. "This is a delicate situation."
Ralph shook his head. "I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve been researching alternative treatments and experimental therapies that might help. Please, give me a chance. I can't just watch my father die."
As Ralph steeled himself to treat his father, Sauna's voice pierced the tense silence. "Ralph, you can't do this," she said, her voice trembling. "You're not a doctor. You'll only make things worse."
Ralph turned to her, his eyes filled with determination. "Mum, I have to try. We can't just let him die without doing everything we can."
Sauna shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "No, Ralph. I can't watch you experiment on your father. You don't know what you're doing!"
Just as the argument reached a fever pitch, the door to the room swung open, and Charlie strode in. His presence was commanding, and his expression was a mix of concern and irritation. "What's going on here?" he demanded.
