Chapter 14 *** Saving A Puppy ***

CHAPTER 14 ~ Saving a Puppy ~

[XAVIER'S POV]
As I kept munching on the juicy prawn, I felt as if the taste was exceptionally more delicious today. I, Xavier Gray, who never used my hands to eat anything, especially in a restaurant, did just that. It was refreshing! Her face looked like she was in pure bliss while devouring those prawns. It made me curious, so I mechanically followed her example to enjoy a new experience. It was so damn good to the point that I couldn’t believe that I had never tried it that way before.
As I glanced at her way, I found her watching me with a baffled expression. Feeling a little embarrassed, I rubbed the back of my neck with my hand.
“What?”
She chuckled lightly and then shifted her eyes greedily to the prawns.
“Nothing, did you like it, Mr. President?”
Indifferently, I hummed in agreement but then my eyes fixated on her moist lips. She had ketchup on the corner of her mouth.
“Miss Young, you have some sauce on your mouth,” I said.
She lifted up her innocent eyes to look at me. Pointing at the wrong spot, she asked, “Here?”
Shaking my head, I said, “No, a little left.”
Again she pointed at the wrong spot.
“Right here, then?”
My patience had reached its limits and I grabbed a napkin.
Angrily, I ordered, “Come here.”
Looking stunned for a moment, she slowly leaned her face over the table so I could reach her. Swiftly using to the napkin, I wiped off her the ketchup from her supple lips. I couldn’t help but be drawn to her attractive mouth. Not even a second went by before I started to wonder how it would feel to devour these delicious lips. My thoughts were growing more rampant as I sat there mesmerized by her mouth.
“Mr. President?”
I heard her soft tone and I quickly jerked off my hands off her lips. Knowing that my face would show my embarrassment, I couldn’t even look at her.
“It's done, Miss Young. Let's finish our lunch. Tomorrow, you will be visiting Eden International Limited,” I mumbled.
She nodded slightly and then went back to eating.
My mind was spinning. Did I act too intimate? What's happening to my asexuality? I wasn’t bothered at all by being so close to her. On the contrary, I wanted to get closer. I wanted… more.
The rest of the meal went by quietly as we both were enraptured by the delicious food. She continued to peel the prawns for me and I greedily continued to devour each one. For the first time, I enjoyed my life acting like a normal unruly person and I was enjoying the experience. If I was to be truthful, I sometimes craved and envied the freedom that others took for granted.
We only touched our red wine at end of our lunch. My eyes were still on her lips as she sipped her wine and without warning she shot a glance towards me. I quickly averted my gaze.
“Why am I being like this?” I thought.
After finishing off our lunch, I paid the bill and headed outside towards the black car leaving her to trail behind me.
[IRIS'S POV]
I spotted his bodyguards that surrounded the entire restaurant as we walked out together. It was midday and the sun was heating the earth with its warmth. I loved feeling of it on my face and, with my stomach extremely full, I started to feel drowsy. As it was lunchtime, the road was empty as the industrious workers of the city were taking their breaks at home or in their office.
My eyes vacantly fell on the empty street where I spotted a little white puppy. It was briskly crossing the road and seemed clueless about its surroundings. Watching at how cute its timid steps were while crossing the road, I couldn’t help but smile. Suddenly, I heard a loud horn from the opposite side of the road. Seeing a huge loaded truck coming straight towards the puppy, my expression was filled with horror. I gasped loudly, threw away my purse in an unknown direction and took off running. Grabbing the puppy as fast as I could without thinking twice, I heard the truck driver yelling at me to get out of the way. Vaguely, I saw the driver was desperately trying to stop the truck. Not moving an inch, I held the puppy tightly like a precious treasure and watched in fear as the vehicle came barreling towards us. I was so terrified I couldn’t move. Reflexively, I squeezed my eyes shut. However, in the next moment, I felt my frozen body being roughly pulled back. I gasped in terror and fell down on the street.

[Iris’s POV]
My left elbow smashed against the asphalt and I knew I was going to get quite a few bruises from this “little” fall. Groaning, I tried to sit up. But, something was pressing firmly against my chest making it impossible for me to move. A little annoyed, I partially opened my eyes and saw what was enabling me. Startled, I let out a sharp gasp.
“M-Mr. President… what are you–”
Staring into his handsome face, I became aware that we were lying on the street with my head resting against his right shoulder. His right arm was snuggly wrapped around my body which supported my back. Turning his head to me, his eyes snapped open and I heard him let out a frustrated groan.
“Are you stupid Miss Young? You put your life in danger because of this little shit,” he said while glaring down at the puppy that was shivering in my arms.
Gathering myself, I quickly slipped out of his hold, stood up and offered my hand to help him. Getting up off the ground, without taking my hand, he started brushing the dirt off of his suit. Rage was written all over his face as he looked down at me. I could tell he was about to go off on one of his rants about safety when, thankfully, I heard a tiny voice coming from the opposite side of the street.
“Tommy! Tommy, you are such a bad boy!”
A little girl, around eight years old, came running towards us with an anxious expression plastered all over her face. Upon hearing the little girl’s voice, the puppy started wiggling around excitedly in my arms. I chuckled softly at the puppy’s reaction as his little owner came forward. She wore a pink floral dress that swished back and forth as she ran. Stopping just in front of me, she bowed slightly.
“Thank you so much for saving my Tommy! I went to my room to get his leash to go for a walk and when I came back into the kitchen he had gotten outside!”
I smiled as my heart filled with warmth at the sight of the little girl.
Handing her puppy over, I said softly, “It's fine, sweetie. Make sure you keep your eyes on him. He is still too young to be out on his own and could easily get hurt.”
The girl nodded and then shifted her eyes over to the grumpy man that was next me, still obsessively dusting himself off. Her eyes instantly grew round with shock.
“Aaaah! I-is that President Xavier Gray!?”
He completely ignored her presence and I shot him a pleading look to at least attempt to be kind to the little girl. He sighed, as he understood my hint, and stretched out his hand like a gentleman towards her.
“Hello, it’s nice to meet you, miss.”
The girl quickly grabbed his hand like a life line and firmly shook it.
“H-Hello! Oh my gosh! I can’t wait to tell my friends that I have actually met our president! Wow… so much more handsome than on television.”
I chuckled lightly as her cheeks turned apple red. It was really impressive how he was able to attract fans of all ages. At the little girl’s cried of delight, I noticed how a few people started to look our way. Luckily, he had put back on his sunglasses so that no one could immediately recognized him.
Meanwhile, the presidential guards quickly rushed over to us.
“Mr. President, are you alright?”
Wriggling his hand out of the little girl’s hard grip, he replied, “I'm fine.”
Glancing around the street, I noticed the crowd that started to gather.
“We should leave,” I said.
Nodding in agreement, he turned to head towards the car under the protection of the guards. After saying goodbye, the little girl waved at us as I quickly followed after him.
“I am so getting fired for today,” I mumbled to myself.
Taking my usual seat in front, I unconsciously hissed as I sat down. There was a burning pain coming from my left knee. With the adrenaline wearing off, my body started to register the fall. I clenched my teeth so as to not cry out from how badly I ached. Trying to make sure that I wasn’t heard, I glanced at the rearview mirror. He just sat there, staring at me. Meeting his gaze, his expression seemed to convey concern and I felt my heart quicken at the sight. Grimacing as I settled into my seat, I averted my eyes and stared out the window.
