127- Calling and convincing
He is quiet for a moment, then he pushes his shoulders back and blurts out;
“I-want-to-ask-her-out-will-you-give-me-her-number-please?” He says it all in one breath and then I’m pretty sure he doesn’t take another one. He’s just holding his breath, waiting.
“Sure.” I agree easily. He drops the towel on the ground in shock. I think he expected me to say no.
“Really? Don’t you need to check with her or something?” He asks doubtfully, like he thinks I might be messing with him. I can’t help but laugh.
“She already agreed. She told me the day you met that when you got up the nerve to ask for her number, I should give it to you. She’s an Oracle, remember? I’m pretty sure she’s waiting for you to call.” I tell him. His answering grin is blindingly bright.
“Really?”
“Yes really. I’ll give it to you as soon as we finish the dishes.” Let me just say, I have never seen someone dry dishes as fast as Shaun is right now. We have the job done in no time and I read out Amber’s number for him to add to his phone.
“Thanks Miss Gale. Now I just have to get up the nerve to actually call her.” He looks a little ill at the thought.
“She wouldn’t have given you her number if she was going to reject you Shaun. Have a little confidence.”
“She didn’t give me her number, you did!” he objects. I shrug.
“She gave it indirectly. She has been waiting all week. Don’t make her wait too long. Good luck!” A look of grim determination crosses his face and he nods.
“Right. I’m just going to go do that now. Thanks again.” He leaves in a hurry after that. So much of a hurry that he doesn’t even stop to say goodbye to Megan or Bellamy. I return to the living room and find Bellamy smiling and Megan practically bouncing in her seat.
“Oh my gosh did that really just happen? Shaun and Amber?” She looks thrilled and I laugh.
“Yep.” I confirm.
“That’s so CUTE!” She half squeals.
“WAIT! Are they fated? I don’t want anyone breaking his heart. Or hers… or anyones.” She rambles. I glance at Bellamy who just shrugs. He doesn’t seem to have an opinion on if I should tell Megan or not. I mean, Amber already knows, but what about Shaun… In the end I decide that Megan doesn’t need the worry right now, particularly regarding her friends' romantic relationships. Besides, it’s not like Shaun is making a secret of his intentions. The way any relationship works is that it either ends or it doesn’t. If they’re already choosing a relationship then really all I know is that it won’t end, or that if it does it will start again? It doesn’t tell that much.
“Yeah, they’re fated. Amber knows but Shaun isn’t quite there yet so keep it to yourself for now, yeah?” Megan promises and then skips upstairs to grab her phone so she can text Amber a congratulations. The two have been growing close all week in our group chat. Sure enough, a few seconds later my phone vibrates.
COCK TALES
Megan- AMBER! Shaun just asked Ry for your number!!! You guys are going to be so CUTE together!!! <3 <3 <3
Amber- Hahaha, thanks. I can only see a few weeks ahead usually but I think it will go well. He’s going to call later tonight and I can’t wait, he’s going to be so awkward about it. It’s adorable. Or it will be adorable at least. :)
Ryann- LOL and people think I have spoilers. He will be lucky if he ever manages to surprise you.
Amber- I’m surprised all the time, I just get surprised early and then I’m not surprised when the actual surprise comes, if that makes sense.
Megan- It sort of does actually?
Harry- Hold up, what am I missing, who is Shaun? Have I met Shaun? Is that the big guy who was guarding the door when we built a blanket fort Ry?
Ryann- Nah that was Aaron, Shaun is far louder. Oooh we should totally find Aaron’s soulmate next. I REALLY want to know who it will be. He’s so… reserved. It would be fun to see someone break that calm.
Megan- I really can’t picture it. And wait, weren’t you all about not interfering?
Ryann- Sure, but that doesn’t mean I can’t find out stuff. Just means I have to wait once I do know.
Amber- I know that feeling… -_-
Ryann- Poor thing.
Amber- It could be worse, the things I see are usually only a few days or weeks away, you could have to wait years to see the results of what you see.
Harry- Yeah no kidding, I don’t have that kind of patience.
Megan- Me neither!
Bellamy clears his throat to get my attention and I look up with a smile.
“Hmm?”
“I was asking if you are planning to try to meditate some more or if you have other plans?” He asks apparently not for the first time. Oops. I can’t repress a deep sigh.
“I don’t know. I’ve been doing it for days now and I’m not making any progress. I have to be doing something wrong. This just isn’t working, it’s taking too long. We need to find her and we need to find the killers. Aside from the obvious issues of leaving a poor little girl in the hands of psychos, there are a few practical issues to consider too. Like, I’m meant to be going back to work in just a few days. My leave is going to end and I don’t have enough in the way of savings to take the time unpaid.” I groan and bury my face in my hands. I want to go to work, but at the same time it’s not like I’ve missed it. Mostly, I need to work for the most basic reason. Money. Maybe it would be fine? I haven’t received any more threatening letters and as far as I know, no one has attempted to get to me here. Maybe the psychos have moved on and aren’t bothering with me anymore. One look at Bellamy’s face tells me that his thoughts are not along the same lines as mine and I sigh again. Okay, so maybe having the psycho murdering, kidnappers forget about whatever grudge they have against me is just wishful thinking. Still, I only have a few days of leave left. I’m running out of time! Bellamy’s face hardens.
“You are not going back to work.” He says firmly. I raise an eyebrow.
“Excuse me?” I question, giving him a chance to rephrase that statement into a request or suggestion. He doesn’t take the hint.
“You’re not going. I can’t let you. It isn’t safe. I just can’t do it.” he insists.
“Bellamy, it’s not your decision. I haven’t made up my mind either way yet, but you have to know that you can’t make the decision for me. Short of locking me in the house, I’m still my own person, no matter how much you worry.” Bellamy looks somewhere between very anxious and mildly pissed off. He just stares at me silently, refusing to answer. I decide to cut him a BIT of a break.
“Look, I haven’t made a decision yet. I know that it isn’t safe and I do intend to take your feelings on the issue into account before I make up my mind. But I fully expect you to take mine into consideration too and to respect the choice I make. You are welcome to try and convince me and to give your reasoning. If you can help me find a way to manage everything without completely screwing my finances and living situation, then I am willing to think about it. But for now, I’m going to end this conversation because you are clearly not in the right frame of mind to discuss it. “ I state firmly.
