Chapter 85: Molly At The Club
-Molly-
The minute we walked into the club, the pounding bass swept through me, calling me with its rhythmic beat. It only took a moment for my steps to fall in with the beat of the music as I made a beeline for the dance floor, pulling Becca with me. I could feel how reluctant she was, Becca was never one to dance, but I wasn't about to leave her behind.
The song ended before we got out onto the floor, forcing us to stop as the horde moved off to grab drinks, use the restroom, or hook up, which was the most likely of the choices.
I looked over the crowd trying to spot a decent target for my… desire tonight. But though there were many well-fit, handsome young men who would be more than happy to jump at a wild time. Seeing them in their preppy clothes and sun-kissed blonde hair did nothing for me. It grew worse when I realized that they all looked the same to me. It was hard to distinguish one trust fund kid from another, and none were appealing.
Someone bumped my shoulder, and I turned to see Becca leaning in to whisper to me.
“What’s up with him?” Becca asked.
She jerked her head behind her towards Scott, who was propped up next to a pole, looking supremely out of place in his three-piece jacket. That did not stop him from capturing the attention of almost every woman around. A spark of jealousy rushed through me, and I just wanted to do whatever I could to let everyone know that Scott was mine.
But I couldn’t do that. Scott was free to have any girl in here if he wanted to… even if I didn’t want him to.
“He’s upset with me,” I answered her question.
“Why?”
“It’s a long story. But sufficed to say Scott didn’t want to go out tonight. I did,” I replied, trying to sound flippant about it.
Becca gave me a look that told me she didn’t believe the careless tone.
“So… Scott is ignoring you?” she asked, shocked.
I stiffened as I saw an extremely good-looking woman saunter up to Scott and start flirting with him. Scott’s eyes roamed her body which was obviously on display for any man that wanted to see it. There was only a scrape of material between her and the eyes of any viewer.
Anger rolled through me when I saw Scott noticing that as well.
“No, I’m ignoring him,” I snapped, turning away from the scene.
I schooled my features carefully to pretend like I didn't care.
“That doesn’t seem… right, Molls,” Becca replied doubtfully. “Why didn’t he want to go out tonight?”
“Because this is one of those nights where they are serving alcohol. Didn’t you notice the bracelets they put on us when we came in?” I explained, showing off the red bracelet the bouncer had put on us.
The top was emblazoned with the club’s name in big, bold, unmissable lettering that would glow in the ultra-violet lights that barely lit up the dark areas of the club.
Becca nodded. “But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be here. We are adults.”
“You maybe be adults by law, but that doesn’t mean you know how to handle yourselves when it comes to drunken fools,” Scott said, having walked upon us while we were busy talking.
I tried to look around him inconspicuously, expecting the tramp to be hanging off him like a second skin. But she was nowhere to be found, and I tried not to let the relief show on my face.
I turned to face him and put a hand on her hip. “We can handle ourselves better than you think, Scott.”
Scotts pressed his lips together in anger and raised an eyebrow at me. The need to submit to him rushed through me again, as well as a sense of shame. He was here to make sure Becca and I would stay safe. Now that I saw all the drunken idiots stumbling around the room, making fools of themselves, I was kind of happy to have Scott here to watch our backs.
Scott looked out over the crowded dance floor and the people surrounding the bar. There were already a group of people being loud and rambunctious.
“Look, we really appreciate your concern. But you don’t need to stand guard over us,” I told him, my tone softening.
“It’s really okay, Scott. Go have some fun of your own,” Becca encouraged him with the sweet smile she always used to put people at ease.
Scott gave her the same look that said that he was definitely not going to do that. But before there were any more arguments, the music in the room changed into a pulsating song that everyone seemed to know from the loud shout that went up over the crowd. A rush of excitement went through me as I recognized one of my favorite songs and couldn’t sit still anymore.
The music hit me I quickly found myself dragging Becca out on the dance floor. It didn’t take long before I was lost in the music and allowed it to take me away. I closed my eyes, allowing everything to drift away as my hips twisted with the music.
As the music faded, I slowed and opened my eyes to find a circle of gawkers surrounding me. All the men, and even a few women, looked at me like I was a bone they were willing to fight over.
However, standing in the back, away from the crowd, still leaning casually against the pole, was Scott. In the dark room, Scott was just a familiar shadow facing me. Even though I couldn’t see his eyes, I swore I could feel the power of his gaze on me.
Scott was the only man in the room I wanted. The only man who could make me feel anything close to the things I was craving.
As I met his gaze, the world around us melted away until it was just the two of us. Vaguely, I heard the music start up again, and a few people tried to talk to me, but I continued forward and ignored them all.
A hand grabbed my arm, stopping my forward momentum and breaking the connection between Scott and I. I turned toward the owner of the arm and was confronted by one of the preppy boys I’d had no interest in.
“Hey, baby… why don’t you have a drink with me?” he purred; the smell of alcohol was so prominent that it almost made me gag.
“No, thank you. I think you’ve had enough,” I replied, pulling my arm out of the boy's grasp.
“Ohhhh, come onnnn, baby. Don’t be such a prude!” the man pressed as he moved closer, trying to grab me again.
I jerked away and shoved the man back, watching him tumble back onto the ground as his drunken legs couldn’t compensate for the sudden movement.
“I said no, you freaking idiot. Now, leave me alone,” I snapped at him before turning around and getting ready to strut off.
Instead of making a graceful exit, I was stopped short by Scott’s sudden appearance. My eyes slowly moved up his body to meet his gaze, and I was reminded once again just how tall Scott really was.
The breath left my body as I was snared in his gaze again. His sensually full lips were parted in a proud smile as he stared down at me.
“Looks like you got this handle. Good girl,” he praised me softly.
A flush rushed up my cheeks, and I ducked my head, suddenly feeling shy. “I told you… I can take care of myself.”
Scott cupped my cheek softly as the rough pad of his thumb caressed the sensitive skin over my cheekbone, sending a little chill through my body.
