Chapter 28 : You Idiot.

Still wearing nothing but his boxers, Henry took the stairs three at a time, bursting through the the door, he yelled, "Rose? Kai?" Before she could even answer, he heard someone else from the other room.

"Fuck, you smell good, baby." He heard a man say.

Tearing ass into the kitchen, Henry all but skid into the room as Rose was backing around the corner of the island. Kai kept himself between the man and his mom. "Leave us alone!"

The pharamones were thick, a mixture of so many males in the room with Rose's intense heat. Dominic, one of his closest recruits, stood staulk still. His eyes watching her darkly. He and his mate had been together a long time. If she was effecting him, that meant something.

Juan, someone who came to the team just before Henry left the team to Aiden, so he could take his sibadical. "How the fuck can anyone smell so good? Come here love, I'll mate you and you can--"

"Don't you dare finish that sentence." The low growling rumble of his words stopped everyone in their tracks. Dominic took a step back while Brooks sequestered himself in the corner of the dinning room.

Juan turned, eyeballing Henry. He'd used his Alpha tone, so that he looked ready to fight an already injured Henry wasn't a good sign. "And you are?"

Henry stood tall, "I'm your Commander. So watch yourself soldier." Danger laced the words.

"That's an Omega in heat. I assumed she was here for our pleasure." Juan looked back at Rose like he was going to eat her and it pissed Henry off to no end.

Hery strode into the kitchen, putting himself between Kai and the guys. "She's not. She's mine."

"No, she's not. She doesn't belong to anyone." Jaun cocked his head.

Henry looked back at Rose and she was watching him with wide eyes. "Well..." He shouldn't say what he was about to. Not with all his other Alpha's in the room, but he couldn't help it. "Then I'm hers."

Aiden stepped out from the living room. "Commander!" The word laced with worry.

"Yeah." Henry turned, and both Kai and Rose were beaming at him. They were what he needed in everyway. That he didn't give a rats ass what the others thought about it was terrifying in and of itself. If they chose to turn against him before the end of tomorrow night, it would be the end of him and Rose and Kai would be in real trouble. When Kai wrapped Henry in a huge hug, he almost stumbled. "I meant it." Henry confirmed. Holding Kai close. "I didn't give you the name Kiddo for nothing." He smiled over at Rose, who just watched them, looking relieved. She was wringing her hands in front of her nervously still though. When he held out his free arm, she joined them in the hug.

"I don't understand." Jaun said, watching as they held each other.

Aiden stepped up. "I'm pretty sure, if he hasn't already, he's taking her to be his mate."

Henry frownd. Also not understanding. He'd mated her. He could feel the connection. Ever bit of it. Why couldn't anyone tell that she was his? It should be clear and obvious. Why wasn't it?

"Regardless, Commander," Aiden strainghtened his stance, "I think you have some explaining to do about what we just encountered."

"Our Apha can't take an Omega as his mate. We're an elite team. You control other Alphas. No one will take you seriously--"

"She's not an Omega you idiot." Dominic announced. "You ever smelled anything like her before? Ever? I'm mated and can barely stand it. No Omega anywhere could possibly turn Alphas' heads like this." Henry could tell by the look in his eyes it was making him really uncomfortable too.

"Well, Kai's dad is the Alpha of the Nightmare clan. Same guys standing outside in the front yard right now. They can't shift during the day, some can nearly double in size when they shift. The ones that chased John and Brooks toward the ocean where Rose's Grandfather's clan. I don't know what they're called, but his name is Vanderbend. Who is also apparently a dominant Alpha. I came in contact with a ton of confidential files that talk about all the awful things he's been credited with doing. It's believed he may have funded, in large at least, the Clan Wars that went after the smaller, rarer clans. It's also believed he's done horrible experiments on shifters. Like killing 16 year olds parents on their birthday so that they can shift to twice their size."

"But we can shift to half our size, sometimes less. That's probably more beneficial anyway. And no one needs to die for it." Dominic looked horrified at the thought of experiments like that being done to anyone.

"Honestly, both would have their uses, but I can't imagine anyone would care to actually choose to kill their parents for a special skill like that. Nor do I doubt it would work if they made the choice at all." Aiden said matter-of-factly. And what he said made sense. "But what I don't get, is, if this guy is so dangerous, why haven't we heard of him before?"

Rose leaned heavily against him. She must be as exhausted as he was. Brooks walked into the room, his eyes red from crying. "If you knew they were that dangerous, why didn't you tell us?"

"I didn't know. I found out by accident. I had no idea he was part of this either. Found out by accident to be honest and had just finished skimming the files and tried to lay down to rest when this all started. I should have given you the small heads up I had. I'm sorry."

Aiden shook his head, "You've been under extreme amounts of pressure, Commander. I don't blame you one bit. Wouldn't do anyone any good anyway. You took your sabadical, not by choice, but because we all knew that's what was needed." Dominic was already nodding and so was Brooks. Juan was watching skeptically. "To be tossed in under," he considered Rose and Kai for a moment before continuing, "such extreme sercomstances in so little time..."

A commotion started out front and Anna's voice rang out. "Attempted arson in the window room. Deploying sprinklers now."
