Chapter Nine
Eveleen's POV
My mind was still occupied with the thought of whatever happened in the club and that monster. Duante was glaring at him as he'd kill him at the spot without any delay. Now I was assured of it, this marriage has something to do with him. There can be anything between them. He asked her, did she want to marry him? I could not ask him. He would never tell me. I blinked and broke my fixed gaze on the traffic down. I was on the tenth floor. Traffic was looking like queues of small trains, headlights and yellow street lights looking like tiny stars. Traffic was moving slowly under street lights. I was lost in my view. I glided my hand on the banister. My hand felt strong skin touching my hand. I moved my eyes. It was his hand with the same blue fabric. I immediately turned to face him. I didn't know when he came behind me and was there, standing like this? He was so close. He never came so close to me. Last time, when he was this close, he ended up with a kiss.
" What's the matter? " I asked him. I was moving my eyes on his face and rested on his amber eyes.
He was just glaring at me. He was tall, but he had bent himself so he could stare into my eyes. I shifted my gaze on the ground, " Do you know who I am? " he finally asked.
Why was he putting this to me? I'm not important to him. I wanted to argue with him and wanted to irritate him. His raged face flashed before my eyes, " Rose said you're an international businessman. " I replied, looking in his eyes.
" I don't wanna know what your friends say. " he politely said.
What did compel him to start this topic? " I don't know. '' I replied, raising my eyes to him again.
" I'm not just that. " he said, locking his eyes with me.
I was dam* sure about it. Now he was confessing it himself. My concentration was on him. I don't know what stuck in my mind. I've seen people making way for him. No one raised their eyes directly to him, their heads were bowed, " People fear you. " I bluntly said.
He wickedly smirked, " People fear from the Mafia and you must too. " he whispered.
I knew it. Here the box opened and revealed him. Why was he telling me now? " You want me to fear you. " I asked.
He put his finger on my lips, " Be in your limits specially from your tongue. " He said.
" Are you gonna beat me up? if I'll not obey you. " I spilled the stupidity but he could if he is Mafia. I raised an eyebrow.
" No! but I can kill everyone who is dear to you. " he snapped but in a slow voice.
He was threatening me to kill my family who doesn't trust me and thinks that I'm in love with this person. Dad told me that I'm dead for them. Here I'm standing under a hanging rock if I didn't accept it. His bullets would kill my family. I thought for a second. If I would not obey him. He would blackmail me everytime, perhaps my whole life. I was on the tenth floor, near the balcony. I climbed on the railing. I was almost up. His expressionless face started to give hints of his move. He instantly pulled me down. A big frown covered his forehead.
" What the hell was you going to do? " he annoyed. I could see blood in his eyes.
" I'm never gonna fear you. Doesn't matter if you're Mr Mafia. For me you are my husband and you can't threaten me like this everytime. If you'll beat me, I'll beat you the same. I know I can't do it but I'll try. I will kill myself instead of bearing your kicks and punches." I said, I was shocked that he was listening to me carefully. He was glaring at me. It was an awkward moment. I was so close to him that I could feel his hot breath on me.
Abruptly, the door creaked open, " What should I pick? " Thomas asked, stepping in the room. His eyes moved from his suits holding in his both hands. We all exchanged glares, " Shit! I'm so sorry. " he turned to get himself out.
" Put me down. " I whispered, " Wait. " I said to Thomas. He instantly put me down on my feet. I pushed away the butterflies. I rushed at Thomas, " Why are you holding dresses? " I asked.
" Tomorrow is a wedding. We're all going. " he smirked.
" Really. " I smiled a little.
" She's not going? " hubby said.
" Why? " Thomas and I asked together.
It went silent for a moment, " I wanna see the bridal. I'll go." I smiled bigger.
" See yourself in the mirror. You're still a bridal. '' Duante said to me.
I was feeling shy hearing it from him. I hung my head in disappointment that he would not take me with him. I loved weddings. I always insisted to my parents to take me with them to every wedding and they do to bring a smile on my face.
" If you behave I can think," he said.
I immediately replied to him, " I'm in. " I happily smiled. I was excited. After many days I will see some happy faces and a wedding. " We'll eat gulab jamun together. '' I said to Thomas.
" Sure, sister in law. " Thomas chuckled.
I glanced at him. His look was saying he cares for me. But I don't want to pull it aside and want to go out. I really need a change.
His private jet landed in Goa. Climbing down from it, We were in the car again. No one was speaking. I was glad to get out of his cage. I will not only see security for two days but also be free from the cage. It wasn't so far from the airport. Our car stopped in front of a palace.
" You'll stay by my side. " he seriously ordered me. I nodded my head in Yes and smiled in excitement. We were greeted by the owners. I was ignoring his handshakes with others. I was gazing around. I could see the sea from where I was standing. If he hadn't told me to be his side I must be soaking my feet in the salty water.
" You like it? " Thomas whispered.
I nodded my head with a huge smile, " Can't I go there. Duante asked me to stay with him, by his side. " I made my puppy face.
He chuckled, " Later. Promise. " He said and moved his eyes from me, " He's the groom. " Thomas mumbled in my ears.
I glanced back and stared at him, " But he looks at his forty. " I mumbled back.
" Nice guess. " Thomas smirked, " It's his third wedding. " He whispered.
It shocked me, " What " I said with shock.
Meanwhile, his arm wrapped around my mid, " My wife Eveleen. " Duante said.
I looked at him and then the groom, " Hello. " I smiled.
He brought his hand, " Nice to meet you. " He smiled.
My hand was bandaged. He removed his hand as he knew I couldn't and nodded taking back his hand. Thomas and he warmly did the handshake. Thomas was standing on the other side of mine.
" I wanna see the bridal. " I whispered to Thomas. Before his answer reached my ears. My hubby's glare hit me.
" Get ready for the party first. " Thomas said, understanding the sign of his glare.
I entered our provided room. This place was actually a palace. There were vines and lotus flowers curved in the ceiling. I was lost in exploring the roof. I hit myself with something solid.
" Ouch! " I exclaimed in pain.
His hand crawled on my bare waist, " Are you hurt? " He asked, inspecting my feet. He scooped me up in his arms and laid me on the regal bed.
" I'm fine. It's not bleeding. " I protested.
He removed my heels and watched it attentively.
" Hm just an invisible nick. Get ready. " he said, letting go of my foot.
My dress was already ready. It was a yellow lehenga with a baby pink blouse. It was beautifully decorated and had heavy handwork on it. I didn't pick it for me, so it was obvious who chose it. I glanced at myself in the mirror. This was a stylish and beautiful dress. It was showing my figure and curves. My jewelry was perfect for the dress, wavy hair was hiding my back while this dress was exposing my back. I swiveled in my heels, my eyes caught him checking on me in the mirror. I stopped instantly. He was in a yellow coat, pants and white shirt. He is a dapper, no doubt. Every color seems made for him. It was highlighting his eyes.
" You'll behave, right? " he asked, coming at me and stopping one feet away from me.
I don't know why he was doubting. I wanna be happy, " I always do. " I replied.
" You're not just Eveleen anymore. " He shoved his hand in his pocket.
Say it! You are my wife. I thought.
" Yeah, I'm your wife. " I said.
He wrapped his arm around me and walked out of the door.
" Is this compulsory? " I asked him. looking at his hand on my waist.
He tugged me at him, " Yes. " he said.
" I wanna see the bridal. " I told him.
He eyed me. Groom was coming out of his room. On our sight, he bent his head, " Do you like your room, Boss. Anything I can do for you? " he asked.
" My wife wants to see the bridal. " he said.
It was unbelievable but he was hearing me. I smiled ear to ear.
" Sure. " he unlocked the door.
If his future wife is Inside the room. Why would he lock it?
I was excited about it. But my own question was stinging me. My room was also locked when I got married to him. Maybe I'm thinking too much. I pushed it away. It was my childhood habit. I always wanted to see the bride before her marriage. I brought up my eyes to see her. My smile faded from my lips. We were friends, we hadn't met but often we chat on Instagram. We normally exchanged comments. I clearly remembered her last birthday post. I connected my phone with WiFi and opened my IG. I clicked on her username and scrolled down. Her birthday post was on fifteen January. ' 17enth birthday ' was written in her caption. She wasn't even eighteen.
She recognized me instantly. There was a horrible expression on her cute baby face. She looked like a doll. I saw Haidar. He was giving her a menacing glance. I needed to talk to her alone. There was something wrong at the bottom.
" She's so pretty. " I complimented.
I cocked my eyes at her. She gave a double blink of her eyes.
I caught Duante glaring at me.
" I need to use your washroom, if you don't mind. " I looked at her to hear her yes.
And finally she nodded.
" I want your help to set my dupatta. It's heavy. " I pretended to ask for her help.
" Sure. " she smiled at me.
I saw Haider's menace glare at her. I stood between them and cut it. I'll not let this happen at any cost if it was against her desire.
DUANTE'S POV
Her smile faded from her lips. When she saw her, I saw Eveleen cocking her eyes at her and she returned it with double blink. It was evidence. She knew him. My wife was up to something. I knew it for sure, she would end up with trouble.
I lit the display on my iPhone and started its voice recording. I put it on the table. It was under lock, she couldn't open it.
" We should give room to them. We should wait out of the room. " I said.
Haidar bent his head, " Sure, sir. " He replied.
He left the room leaving my phone behind.
