chapter 37 : Unexpected Ending
Alexander managed to barge into the room by force and grabbed the whip, which was about to hit Becca. He pushed Shier away harshly and dropped the whip on the floor. Then he picked up a petrified Becca in his arms and jumped out of the balcony.
He was weak because of the strong spell he broke by giving away most of his energy. But he had to stay strong for Becca, as long as he could. He decided to take her to the vampire world to keep her safe with him for the time being.
Meanwhile, Shier took the special revolver which possessed the bullets that could kill a vampire. He wanted to kill the vampires responsible for his wifes death, so he made it especially by himself. I am going to kill him. I cannot let him be the vampire king nor anyone else. No vampire will be helped because they killed my wife, he mumbled. He decided to rush to the Bellmor jungle since he spotted Alexander going there.
In the meantime, Alexander placed Becca in front of the banyan tree which had the portal connecting the vampire and the human world. He made her sit and rubbed her hands.
Becca, are you okay? he asked with his eyes filled with concern.
Becca coughed slightly, her throat dry due to screaming in pain.
Seeing her wounds, Alexander wished he had the power to cure her, but to cure someone he needed to chant a special incantation and for that, he needed energy. He himself was too weak and could barely use his powers on her.
I am ok...Al she rasped out, nuzzling his neck with her soft hand which was cold now. She rested her forehead with his, mumbling, You are the best person I have ever got in my life, Alex. She didnt understand why it was all happening but she was in more pain than ever. This time, there was no snowfall to heal her wounds either; as if even nature itself had given up on her.
Alexander caressed her bruised cheek carefully as if he would hurt her if not caressed with full focus. I should be the one saying this. Becca, you gave life to this dead soul. Your chirpiness, curiosity, natureall of these are the reasons that pulled me towards you. And not to forget the fact that, he took her hand and placed it over his chest, This heart, only beats when I am with you.
Becca could feel his rapid heartbeats with her hand. A small smile ghosted over her lips as she said, You taught me how it feels to be in love. It really feels like I am a female protagonist in a movie.
And you taught me to believe in love, Becca, he mumbled and as she was falling weaker, he said, Becca, keep your eyes open till we reach the vampire world.
She nodded her head.
Alexander turned to the red dot on the tree and looked at it intently with his green eyes. He was ready to go as soon as the portal would open. His plan was he would pick up Becca bridal style and go to the vampire world. But he was shocked when he saw the portal didnt open.
The fuck? he let out in disbelief and looked at the red dot again. It wasnt working at all. Why is this happening? It should work unless someone closes the portal to prevent me access. When the realization struck him hard, he uttered, Damn you, Phil. How can you do this?
Becca, who was sitting there struggling in pain, said to him, Alex, hear me out. I want to say something.
What? he said in annoyance.
First, help me stand up, she said sternly.
With a sigh, Alexander helped her to get to her feet.
Becca looked at the dark sky, a frown on her face.
What is it? he asked her.
I am wondering why there isnt a snowfall today, she replied.
Alexander let out a humorless chuckle. I am trying to open the portal here and you are worried about the weather?
Alex, when the snow hits my skin, it heals my wounds automatically. Whenever I used to get hurt, snow would drift down from the sky and cure me. Then why isnt it happening now?
Alexander looked at her as if she had grown two heads. Did Shier hit on your head as well? He wasnt in his right mind to think straight as well because the portal was still closed.
No, Ilet it be. She sucked in a deep breath. Then she cupped his cheeks with her shaky hands and confessed with a cute smile, I just wanted to let you know. I love you.
Alexander was caught off-guard at her sudden confession. He didnt expect her to have such deep feelings for him. Then again, he did too. For the time he spent away from her, every day he fell for her deeper and harder as he kept remembering her cute smiles, lively giggles, lame jokes, and everything else about her. He didnt want to admit at first that he was in love with Becca, but when he finally did, he rushed back to the human world to be at her side.
Therefore, Alexander didnt hesitate before saying, And I love you too, Becca.
Becca smiled and stood on her tiptoes to place her lips on his. Just like she had read in books, she definitely felt butterflies, but much more intense. It literally felt like sparklers were going off in her belly. Also, as if something was leaving her body, an important part was being sucked out.
On the other hand, Alexander ignored the sudden flow of energy throughout his body because he wanted to focus on their kiss and move his lips with hers in sync. After all the drama, it felt good to have in his arms. He wanted to enjoy the moment, yet the overwhelming sensation of power surging through his veins made him pull back from the kiss, leaving Becca breathless.
Becca couldnt bear to look into Alexanders eyes and averted her gaze while Alexander tried to open the portal once again. That was when Becca saw her father pointing a gun at Alexander from a distance. She watched Alexander still looking at the tree, kicking it in frustration.
Becca glanced at the banyan tree, finding a small hole appearing which meant the portal from the vampire world was opening. As soon as Becca saw Shier pulling the trigger, without a second thought, she pushed Alexander towards the portal and let the bullet hit her stomach. She whimpered in pain.
Becca! Alexander called out, but his voice faded since the portal closed as he had stepped into the vampire world.
Whereas, Becca laid there sprawled on the grass, groaning in pain as blood started to pour from her stomach. Her father ran away once the gun erupted, not looking back once to see whether he shot Alexander or his own daughter. Thinking he shot Alexander, he scurried away.
Becca felt her body going weaker than ever, as she felt her eyes drooping. She knew that death was nearshe could feel it. She remembered the times she spent with Vanessa, Sebastian, Lucas, and most importantly, with the love of her life, Alexander Insworthe. The time was short, but within that period, Becca learned what happiness, love, careit all felt like her dream came true. She always craved for these feelings since childhood, but she received it all at once, just for one reasonthe vampire potion.
She laid there helplessly.
In the meantime, Phil, who came through the portal, saw Beccas body on the ground. He got here from Beccas house, but he was too late. He examined the body, to see whether she was really dead or not. When he couldnt feel her breathing anymore, he chuckled and said, Well, its better you are dead. If I didnt get the potion, no one else should have either. He further spoke, pulling a few strands of Beccas hair behind her back. Becca Hertford died with the potion to save the love of her life. Rot in hell. With that, he returned to the vampire world.
It was midnight. The sky was darker than usual.
The vampire portal opened all of a sudden, and a woman with grey hair stepped into the human world.
The weather started changing and soft snow started to fall.
She looked at Beccas body still lying near the portal. Her hazel eyes softened at the sight. She leaned to Becca and caressed her cheek, as she said with a smile, Get up, sweetheart. Your Godmother is here.
Suddenly, Becca opened her eyes.
