Chapter 25

Jayde

After Nurse Carter helps me inside, I ask her to wait in the car. She obliges. I feel at ease in Adam’s house. Adam pours me a soda and I invite him to sit next to me.

“I have had a long, hard week.” I confide in him.
“We can talk about it, if you’d like.” Adam says.
“Well, you know I got shot. I am still recovering from that. I have started physical therapy. It is hard. I can move around without the wheelchair, but Max thinks I should continue to use it. Just to be safe he says. I don’t disagree. It hurts to move so the chair helps. He hired a nurse to look after me as well.”
“Do you like Max?”
“I don’t know. I still want to get revenge. I just don’t think I can kill him.” I say sadly.
“You don’t have to. Look, if you want to back out that is okay. I won’t hold it against you.”
“I tried to kill him. I met his fiancée. She gave me some poison. I put it in his wine. But in the end, I couldn’t go through with it. He has done so much for me. And he is helping Amara with her recovery as well.”
“That’s nice of him, but you know as well as I do, that he is not a good guy.” Adam reminds me.
“I know. I just… I’m exhausted. And I don’t know what to do.”
“We can adjust the plan or scrap it altogether and come up with something new.”
“I don’t know. I feel broken, Adam.”
“You are not broken. Maybe you are a little confused at the moment. And tired of everything that is going on, but not broken. You are a strong woman. I have seen it.”
“I don’t feel strong right now.” I frown.
“Hey, we all have moments where we don’t feel strong. You got shot. It’s to be expected. But you survived, that’s a testament to how strong you are. Don’t let anyone make you feel weak. You will be good as new in no time. Just focus on your recovery for now.”
“Okay, I can do that.”

We sit in silence for a while. I really want to put my head on his shoulder and just cry, but I don’t. I want to be the strong woman he sees me as. I also really want to kiss him.

Adam gets up and goes to the kitchen.

Adam

I can see the lust in her eyes. She wants me. And damn it, I want her too. My cock is getting hard so I get up and go to the kitchen to make some food. I don’t want to start something with her and she’s not ready for it. While I prepare us some sandwiches, I will my cock to go down. By the time I finish the sandwiches, I am back in my right head space. I take the sandwiches out to the living room and set one down in front of her. I sit next to her and begin eating my sandwich. She picks hers up and does the same. We eat in silence.

When we finish our sandwiches, I take the plates back to the kitchen.

“Do you want anything else?” I ask from the kitchen.
“No, I’m good, thanks. I do need to use the restroom though.” Jayde says.
“I’ll show you where it is.” I say as I take her hand and help her up from the wheelchair. We walk down the hall and I open the door to the bathroom.

“I’ll wait here for you to help you back to the living room.” I say.
“Oh, you don’t have to. I can do it. It’s probably good for me to move around a bit anyway.” She says with a sheepish smile.
“Alright then, I will be in the kitchen, just holler at me if you need anything.”

I head back to the kitchen. Once there, I start washing the dishes. When I am done, I turn around to find Jayde standing in the doorway to the kitchen. She is struggling a little to stay upright, but she manages to do it. Then she grabs her side in pain. I rush to her.

“Maybe you should sit down.” I tell her.
“Yeah, maybe I should.” She says as she leans against me. I put my arm around her and lead her back to the living room.

I can’t help but notice how amazing she smells. Like cherry blossoms on a sunny afternoon. Damn, I want her so bad. But she is still recovering, I remind myself.

I sit her down on the couch instead of back in her chair. I think the couch is more comfortable than the wheelchair.

“Thank you.” She says. “For the sandwich and the soda as well as helping me back in here.”
“No problem, you are most welcome.” I’m feeling a little awkward right now, but I sit next to her.

I turn on the tv. Then I pull up Netflix and ask her what she wants to watch. She says Dexter. I haven’t seen it so I ask her what it is about. She tells me it is about a serial killer who works for the police department. He only kills other killers. She says it is a really good show. So I put it on. We watch in silence. She leans on me, her head on my shoulder. I wrap my arm around her and pull her closer. She winces a little bit and I ease up a little on my grip.

“It’s fine,” she says. “You can hold me tighter.”
“I just don’t want to aggravate your wound,” I say. It does feel nice having her this close.

The silence resumes as we watch Dexter. After a while, I realize she has fallen asleep. I reach for the remote and turn off the tv. I gently wake her.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you.” She says groggily.
“Not a problem. But maybe it is time for you to head back home and get some rest.” I help her into her wheelchair and then get her nurse from outside.

We say our see you laters and they leave.

Jayde

When we get home, Max is waiting outside, a smile on his face. He helps me into the house. He’s made dinner again.

“How was your day?” He asks.
“It was fine. I spent some time with Amara and did my physical therapy.”
“And how was physical therapy?”
“I think it went pretty well. I might not need this chair for much longer.”
“You should continue to use it until the pain is gone.”
“I really need to move about without the chair. The physical therapist says it will help me recover faster.”
“Okay, we will see. I just don’t like seeing you in pain.” He winces like seeing me in pain physically hurts him.

We eat our meal in silence. Afterwards, He takes me upstairs and helps me shower. He’s very gentle with me. After my shower, he puts me in pajamas and then very gently places me in bed.
