Chapter 10 Time to get bloody
Feed me more, Mr. Ryan. I yell at him, accepting his challenges and tightening a piece of cloth that Kira gave me on my wounds.
The crowds roared out in excitement. Many of them were placing their bets on me, while a few of them were going against me. But I don't fucking care. They have activated my fighting and survival instincts, and I will surely give them the bloodshed that they want.
"Please, stay safe for me," Kira begged, and I could see the sadness in her eyes. "I will also be your backup plan."
"No," I said emphatically. I can take care of myself. Besides, you don't need to stress your injuries, so they can heal quickly. She nodded her head in disappointment, and I patted her on the back.
The metal cage made a buzzing sound, then opened wide, followed by a giant creature. He had two big horns on his forehead. His body was red, making him look like a minotaur. He had a sword in his hand that seemed to be made from adamantium or vibranium. He was clad in a short purple trouser which tightened around his lap due to the huge body structures he had.
I examined him from head to toe, looking for where I could hit him. But I couldn't find one. He had a huge muscle mass, and all his biceps were revealed.
I heard my mom's voice in my head: "There is nobody without a weakness." All you have to do is relax your mind. Don't be panicked, no matter how giant or hefty your opponent might be. "
I examined the beast again, and I am sure that he must have a weakness, just that I am yet to find it. "After you examine your enemy for five minutes and you don't find his weakness, hit him on the manhood," I remember my mom's teaching again.
I could remember that day clearly. I just passed my test as a dirty fighter. It is a challenge, in which you will be put out in the mud and told to overthrow your opponent within a certain amount of time.
The fight always takes place in the rainy season, especially in a pig barn. Then I just clocked 13 and I was lucky to pass the challenge at the last second. I watched as other people who failed were tied to a pole and thrown in the mud for a complete 3 days without eating or drinking.
Then my mom told me to fight her bodyguard. He was a tall man with big muscles. "After you kick your enemy in manhood, go for all the veins that are transporting blood around his body, then hit them all, especially the one on the neck," I remembered the teaching again, and a smile crept into my lips.
"Let the battle begin!" Ryan's voice booms throughout the whole stadium. The beast charged at me, his sword raised high in an attempt to slash me, but I strode aside at the last second.
I retaliated by whacking my steel dragon at his neck, making him cry out in something I can only call fury. He spun back and started attacking me with anger. whacking me from different angles, left and right, left and right. I can feel my arm growing weak due to the strength and force he is using to attack me.
I was slow to counter a blow, and he splashed me with his sword. Thank God, it wasn't a deep cut. It just bruised my arm, but I can still feel the pain. The creature attacks me again, but I block the blow with my weapon. The beast used his second hand to backhand me, and I could feel the blood on my lips. He snatched the steel dragon from my hand and used it to beat me.
I screamed in pain as the steel dragon hit me on the back. Discomfort surged through my body and I could feel tears threatening to come out. I hadn't recovered when the beast kicked me with his huge leg, his boot colliding with my mouth, my face, and the force carried all the way to the other edge of the cage net. My face collapsed with the net, and I am sure it left a mark on my face.
The sound of the beast's fast-approaching footsteps echoes in my ears. I spun back and quickly rolled out of the spot as the beast landed on my previous spot in an attempt to trample me. I had yet to stand up when he grabbed the collar of my shirt and used it to fling me away.
I felt myself flying in the air, and I shook my head in pity, knowing how hard my stupid body would land on the arena's sandy ground. After several minutes of flying in the air like a bird, I finally deflected the law of gravity. I landed on the sandy floor with a loud thud and I felt my bone breaking into a million pieces. I screamed out in trauma as I felt something sharp puncture my wounded lap.
I glance back, only to see that the beast has stabbed me with the spear I used to kill one of the former soldiers. I watched in blemish as he raised his sword high and aimed for my head in an attempt to decapitate it. I jerked furiously, making a move to roll out of the way, but I was pinned to the ground.
Just when I hoped I had failed my dad again, a metal spike appeared out of nowhere and hit the beast on the chest. It hit him so hard that the force threw him several feet backward. I raised my head in surprise and shock, wondering where the spike had come from. I know it wasn't from Kira because she was only good with knives and arrows. Second, there isn't any spare weapon in the arena, unless Ryan had just thrown down the weapon. Summoning all the strength in me, I managed to raise my head, and my mouth opened in awe and astonishment.
It was a sight I never expected to see again, a face I never thought I could see again. Standing in front of me are Manuel, Favour, Michael, and Vee. I rubbed my face again so I could be sure that I wasn't dreaming, but it was real.
"How are you feeling?" I heard the sweet voice that always melted my heart. She removed the spear from my leg, and I screamed in distress.
"Can you walk?" She requested it again.
"Or should we help you up?" The boys said it at the same time.
"It is nothing," I answered truthfully. "Just that this body is too lazy to fight that small pikin." I spat as I pointed towards the beast, who had now stood up. He was cracking his phalanges and his sword, and I could guess he was trying to attack me again.
"The real show is about to begin," Ryan said. His image appeared behind the beast with a silly smile on his lips. Behind him stood the two men that were guarding him. "My men caught this little rat sneaking around the corridor, and I guess that they are looking for you," Ryan said while taking dangerous steps towards me.
The crowds have also grown silent, waiting for what is going to happen next.
"The rules of the game have changed," Ryan voices out, loud enough for the crowds to hear. "As you can see, it is now 7 against 1, and that is unfair," Ryan said, pointing his finger at all of us. I scrutinize my team with my eyes, wondering what Ryan means by seven against one. That's when my gaze is drawn to another being. He was light in complexion, and I could guess that he was also from Africa.
"This is how we would do it now," Ryan said. "They will select three of their best fighters to fight my beast. If they manage to kill him, they will be taken to the special room to relax for tomorrow's fight." Ryan clarified, and the crowds roared in approval. "And the other four that remain," he continued, and the spectators went quiet again, waiting for what he was about to say. "After the first round has finished with their fight, the remaining will then face the venomous woman. Are we clear? "
"Yes," the crowd yells in acceptance.
"Now select your best fighter to fight my beast, so the rest can move out." Ryan said, his gaze now on mine. I scrutinized my team, deciding on who to choose. I look at Kira, and her gaze meets mine. Even though she wasn't making any sounds, I was sure she would want to be with me.
I'm tempted to use the new guy to put his skills and loyalty to the test, but I don't want to jeopardize everything with a stupid decision., if he wants to try anything stupid with the second set, I can act as his backup.
"Kira and Michael should follow me," I said.
Even though I almost regretted ever calling her to my team when I saw the way she was limping. But on the other hand, I can watch her and my mind would be at rest seeing her beside me. I dragged my wounded lazy leg, moved close to Ryan and stood a few meters away from his face.
"I promised you, Ryan," I spat, with venom in my voice. "Once I manage to get out of here, I will kill you, ruin everything you have, and make you crawl in front of me, begging for mercy." I looked closely into his eyes, and I could see that he wasn't bulging with my threat. Well, I can't blame him. He probably thought I wouldn't make it.
"Throw them the weapons, and let them select," Ryan simply replied. He stepped back from me and walked to his beast. The latter bent low to the same height as Ryan, and I watched as he whispered something into the beast's ear.
But I wasn't moved by whatever they were trying to do. I am more determined now. I am damn ready to face him now. Especially with my team beside me. Even so, I was still wondering what they were doing here, how they found me, and what happened after they escaped.
But that could wait. I had to deal with this beast that made me half-legged. Different weapons were thrown into the cage. I moved closer and examined it with my eyes. It was a basket filled with swords, halberds, spears, steel dragons, bows, arrows, and quivers, with knives of different sizes and colours. I chose a sword and examined the weight in my hand. It was heavier than I could ever have imagined.
I always thought a sword was a light weapon when I saw the way people wielded it in a movie, but this one proved me wrong. It was so heavy that I had to hold it with my two hands. Nonetheless, I knew it was the best weapon, especially when facing a ferocious beast like this.
The sword was made from silk, and it had a sharp blade that gleamed in the sun. I squatted down again and picked up two short knives, placing them behind my waist as a backup.
Kira and Michael also come closer to picking their weapons. Michael chose the steel dragon and two knives. Kira picked up the bow and arrow and left the latter one inside the basket. I watched as Ryan signalled for one of his men to take the basket away, then he faced us.
"I wish you very bad luck." He simply said, "And walked away."
"And don't forget my promise to you." I quickly added before he could reach the exit. He stopped on his track, turned his face to me, and raised his middle finger as a fuck you sign.
He faced his front and walked out of the cage, while one of his men locked the door with a chain and padlock. Instantly, the crowds yell in happiness, ready to watch the bloodshed again. I could feel the rest of my team staring at us.
As I move closer to the beast with my limping leg, all my fear has now diminished, everything replaced by anger and fury. Anger that he dared to hit Kira, and fury that he made me a limping man.
"Let me attack him first," I said to Kira and Michael, and they all gave me the "are you okay?" look. "We have unfinished business, so allow me to settle him. You can all act as my plan B. " I told them sternly, and the duo nodded their heads in approval.
As I watch the beast, he has also tightened his grip on his sword. Then I noticed that he now had a gauntlet in his left hand while the sword was in his right hand. I knew instantly that it was the handiwork of Ryan. But I didn't let that bother me.
I also believe that every man can fall. Just like my mom always says. I'll just have to find their weak point.
"Time to get bloody," I yell and charge at the beast with a great battle cry escaping from my lips.
