Chapter 60 - Meeting Parents(1)

Elizabeth sat at her desk and looked at the diary. Bedtime was to be announced soon. She checked the time and unfortunately she had only nine minutes before going to sleep; it was 8:51 pm.
She took out that pen with transparent nib which she got from Rujnoiu. She wandered what she should do to see if there was anything written in that mysterious diary. She opened the diary where someone expressed thoughts and placed the pen on the page where it was opened. But ... nothing happened.
'What was written with ice ... will only be seen through the ice. Maybe I should try to write something ..."
And she tried to write the text that came to her mind all the time.
But she couldn't write more, as the ice nib began to light in the room where she was and the pen jumped out of her hand, starting to move by itself in the air, writing letters and forming words, texts, written in a blue hue like the clear sky. All the words written by that pen appeared in the diary by themselves.
'Welcome, dear ..."
The girl didn't know what to do or what to say. She looked at her hawk, which was very quiet, sign that nothing bad happened. So she read on:
Ingressis memoria Eliot quod Rigantona Edwards…
The girl read these letters and before looking at the hawk, she and her guardian disappeared from the room, leaving a candle there near an open diary on the front page. Very slowly, some letters were formed on that white sheet: "The two, the girl and the hawk, appeared ..."
The two, the girl and the hawk, really appeared in a beautifully arranged room. Having tastefully set up furniture, with a desk, a bookcase full of books, a table with chairs and a gentleman sitting at that table.
The hawk flew and sat on a stand on that gentleman's desk.
When he saw the bird, the mysterious gentleman stood up and when he saw the girl he gave her a smile so warm that any glacier would melt.
The girl began to shiver when she saw him. He was ... he was the man who appeared in the only picture she had as a memory from her parents. The picture in which she and a beautiful woman appeared too, of whom Knudlac and many others said they were her parents.
'Father?" the girl asked with tears in her eyes.
'Yes, dear," he managed to say and got close to her to hug her. 'You have no idea how happy I am ... The fact that we can see each other means you're safe."
The girl hugged him too, crying. Her father wiped away her tears and didn't let her go.
'Stop crying, dear."
'I missed you so much ..."
'I know, dear. We missed you too."
The girl looked at her father. She was sad and happy at the same time.
'You know, you can come and talk to us any time, for a while, now that you have managed to open this diary. Even if we aren't with you in the real world, you'll find us here in this diary. These moments, like life, are limited unfortunately, but we'll always find a way to get in touch."
'Mother?" the girl wiped away the tears that constantly flowed from her eyes.
'Your mother ... you'll see her again soon. A little later. We tried hard to offer you these moments with us that you couldn't live in real life. It's just ... there are many things that even the most powerful magicians can't offer ... that we won't be able to offer you."
The girl got sad.
'You don't have to worry, dear. This diary has a mission to fulfil. These steps that will make up the diary, will prepare you for what will follow, for daily life. This is what your mother and I wanted to do. Help you and prepare you to take care of yourself, a kind of training. And on top of that, I hope you enjoy and cherish the time we spend together."
'But mom ..."
'I promise you'll see your mother too. Even many times."
The girl hugged her father again. She missed her mother so much then, but the thought that she'd see her again made her smile. Who wouldn't be sad if he couldn't see his mother? And who wouldn't be glad if he still knew he could see her later? Especially if he hadn't seen her for a long time.
'Does this diary you wrote let me spend time with you?"
'Yes, dear. It's a magic diary that will be written by you. Everything you want to do, or you want to talk to us in the end will appear in the diary, as it happened. According to your wish. But, like anything beautiful, this time is limited too. The moments spent with us as if we were in real life are limited to the number of diary pages, unfortunately, because even magic has its limits," smiled the father. 'But then, when you want to remember the pleasant moments together again, you just have to read this diary and live them again and we can communicate using more advanced methods."
The girl was on top of the world with joy because she saw her father; she could hear and feel him. A magic so beautiful ... to have the chance to hug the father she lost so long ago.
'In this first ###Chapter of the diary, you'll only spend time with me. You can ask me anything and I'll also ask you questions, to see what your level of knowledge is, and to guide you to the destination that any young wizard must reach: true knowledge. We can talk about anything."
The girl thought a little, then asked:
'How do I manage to see you, hear you and feel you ... and everything seems so true?"
'It's all due to your mother for the most part. And then there's the merit of magic, my dear. Your mother's knowledge shared by her great-grandparents, helped us to do what no one tried before. To leave part of our soul here, for you, even if we're not here physically anymore."
The father smiled at the girl.
'But let's not be sad. Let's do something. What you want ... anything."
'I'd eat an ice cream," smiled the girl. 'I'm curious if ..."
'Yes, you'll feel as if you're really eating it, because you'll actually eat that ice cream. I guess you've learned a few things about magic so far."
'Yes," the girl replied. 'I go to Mr. Knudlac's school of magic."
"Very well," her father said softly. Then maybe you can get us to eat some ice cream."
The girl looked at her father.
'But I still don't know how to walk without using my legs".
Her father gently stroke her head.
'That's why you have me. That's why you have your mother and me. To help you where needed and to correct you if necessary. Now take the wand in your right hand, please. You have a wand, don't you?"
The girl nodded head showing her father she had that wizard weapon and took it out from the sleeve of the robe she was wearing.
'Now think of a place where you saw ice cream," her father urged.
The girl closed her eyes, but her father interrupted her.
'My dear, don't rush so hard."
The girl looked at her father. She didn't know what to do so she waited for advice.
'We don't hurry, because we might be coming to another place. You have to think of as many details as possible, details directly related to that place."
The girl nodded head letting her father know she got it.
'For example, if you think about London Bridge, traveling magic can take you anywhere. Even on its cables. Or at the top of a pole on London Bridge. And we wouldn't want this, would we? Because it's dangerous to hang on cables," the father smiled warmly. 'It's desirable to think as carefully as you can about a place on the London Bridge where you'd like to get. In many details. Did you understand, Elizabeth?"
'I did."
'I'd like to hear the details about the place where we go to buy ice cream."
The girl thought a little, then started.
'It's the only ice cream place I remember. I've never seen another. It's a place in the park in the world of sceptics. Where I was with Miss Harmony once to admire puppies in the park. Because at Elmbridge school there aren't many puppies. A girl and a boy played there with a puppy."
'We need clear details that won't disappear in a very short time. The children and the puppy may not be there anymore and there's the possibility of getting where they are at this time or in a place that was visited by them. Focus a little more!"
The daughter closed her eyes again.
'It was a path with a fork, a decrepit bench near that fork and a very thick tree, which wasn't like the others. Its lower branches were very dry."
The father placed his hand on her shoulder. The girl opened her eyes and saw her father smiling.
'Well done, Elizabeth. Such details help you get where you want. Now think about that place and say this word: Cogitamus."
The girl obeyed her father and the two came right to that tree and to that bench. Only that ice cream box and the seller were gone. Which was more than normal because it was a late hour.
"It is no longer here..." the girl said sadly, thinking they missed the opportunity to eat ice cream and she disappointed her father.
But the father cupped her cheeks in his hands and kissed her on the forehead.
'My darling. What I wanted you to learn, you learned. Very well…"
He hugged the girl. And kissed her forehead again. Then he put her down and said:
'As for the ice cream, let's go back where we left off, before a sceptic sees us."
Again Cogitamus and the two got back in the room where the hawk waited for them quietly.
'Now hold your hand as if you had ice cream there. Like me."
The girl looked at her father and did just as he did. The father closed his eyes. The two got an ice cream cone in their hand, surrounded by a kind of pink field.
'It just needs to be prepared. Say out loud what you want."
'I want three cups. One vanilla, one berries and one chocolate," said the girl.
She had the ice cream she wished.
'I want two cups," said the father. 'Vanilla and chocolate."
The ice cream he ordered was there.
The girl and her father started eating those big, tasty ice creams then.
'My dear, after eating these ice-creams we'll have to say goodbye. Until the next meeting. And I want you to know I'm happy you learned so easily to ‘move' so well."
'I'm also really happy, Daddy, because I managed to spend time with you. And I learned to walk without feet ... and I ate ice cream."
'Another lesson I want you to know from the beginning is to avoid doing magic with sceptics around. This is forbidden."
'I know, Daddy. The professors told us thousands of times."
'And also keep in mind that magic isn't meant to ease our life. For example, to ‘move' just because we don't want to climb stairs, or eat ice-cream whenever we want using magic, or ..."
'I know, Daddy. They told it to us too. We'll only use it when absolutely necessary, only when it's really needed.
'You're a little wonder," Eliot Edwards smiled lovingly.
The father sighed softly. Then he looked into the girl's eyes as blue as a deep lagoon.
'I know, Daddy...that we have to say goodbye now. But I won't be sad because I know we'll see each other again."
'We'll definitely see each other again soon. And next time your mother will be with us too."
These words made Elizabeth very happy. Who wouldn't be happy to reunite with her mother after so long ... when they were separated against their will?
'You're exactly as I wanted you to be, Daddy."
The father smiled, then a bright light flashed for a moment and total darkness surrounded Miss Edwards. The girl looked around and saw the darkness slowly disappearing, and she was now in her room, at the same desk, with that nib in her hand.
And it was 9:51 p.m.
She stood up from her desk, and went to bed to rest. She took a pillow and hugged it tight as if she held her father or her mother in her arms.
Surely that night Elizabeth had sweet dreams. She slept thinking of her father whom she finally met and of her mother whom she'd meet soon.
