Chapter 41- A Vampire's Revenge

“Dad? "Where is mom?" Aiden could hear Divina pleading but couldn't bring himself to say anything. He'd felt the bond they'd shared fray. It had broken and shattered his heart like a chain. He was aware that she had left this world. But he'd figure out how and why she'd died. He would avenge her death.
“I am……” Aiden’s words trailed off as Divina started moving away from him towards the large wolf form of Kane. That’s when he realized what had happened. Aiden scanned his surroundings for Vanir and their eyes looked. Vanir’s grey fur stood on end. Vanir still wanted blood. Aiden couldn’t blame him. If he had lossed Divina, he would be the same. If not worse. Aiden slowly rose to his feet and walked over to his daughter, who stood with her shoulders slumped.

Kane looked around and was taken aback by what he saw. His heart was pounding in his chest. The wolf shifters had all evolved into their animal forms. Some appeared to be battered after the battle, while others appeared befuddled. They had all been cursed. He couldn't return to his human form. He was imprisoned as a wolf. Anger surged inside him. The witch possessed more power than he had previously imagined. Divina gave him a guilty expression. Her eyes were welling up with unshed tears. She took a step closer and extended her hand to him. Kane took a few steps back. He didn't need her sympathy. Or, for that matter, anyone's.
"I apologize. It's entirely my fault." She nearly whimpered. Divina was not to blame. He wished he could tell her, but in his wolf form, he couldn't say what he wanted to say. Instead, he let out a low howl before turning tail and fleeing. The witch who had cursed him was no longer alive. Kane would have ripped her apart if she hadn't been dead. He needed to find someone powerful enough to undo the damage. He felt bad about fleeing, leaving Divina in the aftermath of such a bloody battle, but what else could he do? She didn’t understand him this way.

Divina felt a soft hand on her shoulder. She turned to see her father's distraught expression. "He and all the wolves in the compound have been cursed." He is unable to assume human form. He'll always be a wolf." Aiden elaborated.
"No, no, no." Divina sobbed, burying her face in her hands.
"Come on, let's get home." Aiden spoke up, and Divina turned to face him squarely.
"Where is mom?" she inquired once more, and Aiden's gaze fell to the ground.
"I'm afraid she's dead." I could feel our bond fraying. That means one thing. Death.” He said in a muffled voice just above a whisper. It took a few seconds for her fathers’ words to sink in.
Then she felt the pain. Pain robbed her breath, causing a lump to form in her throat, as if her heart had been ripped from her chest. But it didn't stop her from yelling. A piercing sound that portrayed Divina's anguish at the time. She knelt on the ground and began pounding the dirt. Divina's fist stung with each strike, but she didn't care. Her mother couldn't possibly be dead. No, she wasn't gone. Standing up, she looked her father in the eyes and said, "She isn't dead." Her words were stern and emotionless. Aiden wished that was true, but he knew better than to hope for a lie.
Together they left the compound.

Kane was creeping through the woods on his way home when he came across her. Amy lay in the long, overgrown grass, her head at an odd angle. Byrd’s scent permeated the surrounding area. As he ran for home, he let out an enraged howl.
He slammed through the front door, causing the wood to splinter and break. He dashed in the direction of Byrd’s scent and dove on him, teeth barred, and claws extended.
Byrd was evidently in shock and unprepared for the attack. He let out a low scream before engaging in the fight with his nephew. Kane sent a thought to his uncle, “How could you?” he asked snapping his jaws at Byrd’s arms while Byrd tried his best to defend himself.
“What are you talking about?” Byrd asked his voice trembling.
“You killed Amy!” Kane yelled in Byrd’s mind swiping his claws across Byrd’s face.
“Oh, it was me or her. I chose me.” Byrd confessed with no sorrow at all.
“I needed her. You idiot. Her twin sister as cursed me to my wolf form. Amy was my only chance!” Kane roared.
“Divina is Amy and Amy’s twins’ blood. She can reverse the curse.” Kane took a rather large chunk from Byrd’s leg before backing off. Byrd let out a low groan.
“She has no idea how to control her powers.” Kane said gritting his teeth together. He knew how easily the spell could go wrong and he could be stuck as a frog or something similar for eternity or until he was stepped on.
“You Byrd are nothing but a monster. All you do is kill. Ruin everyone’s life.” Kane forced the thought to Byrd’s mind before walking away.
