Chapter 45
Divina sent a scornful glance in the direction of Melissa. Melissa bowed her head and cast a gloomy stare toward the ground as she hid the whites of her eyes. "Are you under the impression that I was involved in that?" Melissa inquired quietly. Divina sent Melissa a sneer as the hatred that was building up in her veins began to spill over.
"Well, the thought had occurred to me." After Divina had finished snapping at Melissa. Melissa let out a scream. She had tried hard to control her urges and be a friend to Divina. Yes, she was a vampire now. But that wasn't all she was. She was still Melissa. However, all Divina could see was a vamp.
"It blows my mind that you would even consider the possibility that I would engage in behavior like this. " Melissa cocked her head to the side as she pointed to the victim, who was still laying lifeless on the ground. The majority of those who had attended the funeral had already left. They were both astounded and frightened by what they had observed.
What do you mean Divina? I had the impression that we were quite close. Nothing will ever be able to come between the two of us since we are inseparable. Melissa inched closer to Divina as she continued to hold back the tears that were welling up in her eyes from earlier.
"It would appear that my assumptions were wrong. I would never do something like this at the burial of your mother." A gold chain fell from Melissa's throat, as she handed it to Divina. After taking one more look back, Melissa walked away. It was impossible to be friends with someone who didn't trust you. She had given Divina a necklace that was a part of a larger set that Divina had given her. On the occasion of her tenth birthday, Divina presented her with a gift that bore the inscription "Best." The part of the costume that said "Friends" was worn by Divina. Since that time, she had been consistently seen wearing the necklace. The meaning of the phrases had changed for her, and as a result, she could not continue to wear it.
Divina watched as Melissa moved away from her and continued on her journey. Melissa, who was once cheerful and full of life, now remained with her shoulders slumped and her head hung down. Divina's fury dissipated. The question that needs to be answered is whether or not it was appropriate for her to place blame on her closest companion. As she turned to face her father, she noticed that he was wearing a sad expression; this prompted her to let out a long sigh. Her attention was drawn to a sound in the distance that sounded like sirens, and at that moment, she realized that it would be up to her to try to explain what had occurred. When it came to assisting his daughter, her father was completely out of his depth.
She inquired while resting her hand on his shoulder and addressing him as "Dad." He didn't glance at her. "It's not Melissa's fault. It would appear that the death of Blackclaw has motivated a few of the remaining vampires to exact their revenge. This was going to happen regardless of how hard I tried to prevent it. You have defeated the most powerful vampire in the history of the world. Everyone would hold in high regard anyone who is successful in getting rid of you." He spun around and put his hands on her face before speaking. He cautioned Divina, saying, "You'll never feel secure again." Divina's grief was directed mostly at her father, not against herself. Consider the possibility that she was unsuccessful, and she lost her life. Aiden would be unable to cope with that. He was a disassembled specimen of a man. He was broken.
Divina felt a twinge of remorse sweep over her as she looked down at the necklace she was clutching and saw that it was broken. In the interest of repairing her relationship with Melissa, she decided to apologize to her and hold out the hope that Melissa would recognize her sincerity. During the time that she was shifting her attention to her mother's grave, she heard a flurry of automobile doors opening and closing. It was unnecessary for her to give them another look. She was completely conscious of the fact that the police were on their way, and she had no other option but to lie to them when they arrived. She had a strong aversion to lying. After that, it started playing a significant role in her life. Her primary concern was concealing her true identity.
She would emerge victorious over this fresh adversary. She had been aware of a man hiding in the woods at that point. On the other hand, the darkness made it impossible to see his face. Despite this, she was going to find and make him pay. In order to make up for what he had done on the day that she was meant to say goodbye to her mother, she promised that she would do whatever it took to bring him down.
First, she had to put on a mask and talk to the police. But she was ready to fight. Ready to save her father from any more heartbreak. Divina fixed her eyes on the disturbed earth and whispered. “I promise mum that I will not fail. I know who I am. I am Divina a dream walks which and I will protect my family and my friends.” When she was finished, she turned to the police who were almost amongst them. She kept a blank stare on her face as five officers weaved in and out of graves, carful not to step on someone’s final resting place.
