Chapter 18

Xander Redent
I went back to my office and drowned myself with work. My sister came into my office and asked me to have dinner together. I agreed and we went to a restaurant near our house.
"Why are you looking at the steak like that?" My sister, Eva asked.
"I don't have any appetite." I said as I took the wine glass right next to the plate and drank a couple of sips.
"Lindsey?"
"I broke up with her." I said truthfully.
"Good because I don't like her."
"You never like my girlfriend." I hissed and she laughed.
"Of course, everyone of them is a slut and your longest relationship that you've ever been is like.. 4 months."
"So what? I mean.. they want me." I shrugged.
"That's the point.. you idiot. They want you but you don't want them. You're like a christmas tree and they're the ornaments. You can't choose them but you don't have any other choice."
"What a weird metaphor." I said and I took a small bite of the steak.
"Why were we and the Lemiere fought suddenly 7 years ago?" I asked Eva and she sighed. I honestly never asked that question a lot to my family but I do curious about it.
"Is it because of me and Athena? Because I know that not long after me and Athena going well.. we suddenly fought." I added and my sister sighed.
"You'll find out about it later on, I think it's not the time for you to know." She said and I nodded.
"I miss London." I said as I turned my head to the view of New York. I took a small piece and put it in my mouth.
"Do you like Athena?" I choked when my sister said that.
"I'll take that as a yes." She smirked and I took a glass of water right away drinking it like crazy. I patted my chest and coughed a little bit.
"You do like Athena."
"No, I don't." I said denying it.
"Then why do you keep the lawsuit around? You usually never keep something for a lot time but that law suit has been in your hands for a couple of days." Shit! She's right.
"Athena is going to get married to Jacob and it's impossible for her to back down because the whole world knows about it." Eva said and she's right about this too. I never get Athena.. never.
"I don't like her, Eva." I said as I cut my steak.
"You love her?" I looked at her without any expression.
"What kind of joke is that?"
"If you like her, you should go for it." She said gesturing me to go and I glared at her hard.
"I said.. I don't like her, Eva."
"She will go to London in 3 days and she will be there for 2 weeks. Go to London and find her." She said it fast and I raised my eyebrows.
"Where did you get that information from?"
"It's a secret and you're welcome." She smiled widely but still looking at me with those teasing eyes.
"No.. I'm not going. I told you that I don't like her."
"Keep saying that to yourself. Trust me.. when she says 'I do', your world will colapse right in front of you and trust me.. you will live with regret."
"Eva.. stop lecturing me.. find yourself a boyfriend.. you've been single since birth." I said flatly.
"I am not! I am not single since birth!" She hissed and I chuckled.
"You better get your ass to London, Xander."
"No.. I won't go." I said shaking my head. She smirked evily and I know inside her head.. she's planning on my death.
"They will have their wedding in 2 months and you're expecting Athena will come to you just like that? You don't know Lemiere huh?"
"And you know Lemiere?" I asked and she nodded.
"Why do you even know about Lemiere?"
"I went on a date with Caleb 2 times." My eyes widen and I looked at her disbelief. I was speechless and she shrugged.
"What? Do dad know about this?"
"Yeah. He knows besides that was 4 years ago." She said like it was nothing.
"You dated him?"
"No. We both have a rock head and we both are quite selfish in everyway so.. yeah." She said and I scoffed disbelief.
"Believe me that Lemiere's pride is on the top of the world. If you don't fight for Athena, she won't come to you."
"I am not."
"Whatever.. I just wanted to help you." She said and I sighed.
"She hates me. She left me. She slapped me. She despised me."
"So? You're going to back off that easily? I don't think that Xander." She shook her head.
"She knew that I'm a playboy."
"You have to fix that! If you're not my brother.. I will kill you. Who doesn't hate a playboy?"
"You know.. why I did that, Eva." I looked at her seriously.
"It's not an excuse, Xander. I know that you're lonely with mom and dad working but it's not an excuse for you. If you really like one girl, why would you find someone else to comfort you when that girl is enough to take all over your whole world."
"But.."
"I know you never felt what real love is but when you do.. that one person is enough for you. They will pour all their love for you and you will never feel lonely." Eva add.
"I don't know what I feel for Athena. I like her.. I think. I mean.. the burning feeling and the crazy affect that she gives me." I tried to describe it but I can't. It's complicated.
"No one likes to be cheated, Xander."
"But we only went for one date and she already thinks that she's my whole world?" I asked chuckling lightly.
"You're so dumb." Eva looked at me disbelief.
"What?"
"When a girl likes someone, for her.. that guy is her whole world and she wants him for herself. Besides.. if I were Athena and you did that, I will never forgive you because you're only playing with my heart instead of being serious."
"I was so young!"
"You were seventeen!" Eva bursted and I sighed.
"Xander, if you still have feelings for her and if you don't want her to be with Jacob, you have to get her. Trust me.. you can't find someone like her. You can't find someone that can gives you the same adrenaline like Athena did. Once.. they say 'I do', it's game over for you. It's the end of your love life." Eva said and I nodded.
"Jacob loves her.. and she loves Jacob, I can't change that."
"Then give up." She said simply and I looked at her completely confuse.
"You said to fight for it and then now you tel me to give up. What kind of sister are you?" I hissed.
"Everything is up to you, Xander. It's your life and it's your choice. I lost mine and I don't want you to lose yours." What?
"Who?"
"Mike." She said and oh shoot! I never thought.. that she and Mike. Mike is her best friend. They were childhood friends and grew up together. Mike got married last spring and even we attended the wedding.
"What? Why?"
"I have a crazy high pride. I have a crazy ego." She said and she looked sad.
"Trust me, Xander. It broke your heart into pieces and I don't want you to experience that because if you do.. I bet you can kill yourself."
"But.. I only like her-"
"Ask yourself, Xander." She said as she cut another piece of meat.
God, this is getting crazy now.
