The Final Phase

"I know that they are the seven most powerful witches in history. A new sister is inducted only after the death of the previous sister and the mark of the seven chooses its bearer. Rumors have it that they are immortal. No sister has died in almost three hundred years." The mark being the hexagon with an eye in its middle. Arthur also made a point that was worthy of being noted. The mark chose who the next sister was. So the replacement for the fifth sister was not necessarily her daughter. I filed the information away to contemplate later. "I also know that they are planning something big. It's something that they have been planning for several centuries. I heard that they hate your kind deeply, but despise you more than any other vampire. They didn't like that you were able to unite almost all the van in [ge world and made yourself king. It is not your right. The right to rule supreme in the supernatural realm does not belong to those forsaken to forever live in the shadows." He spat venomously. Something in the way he said it gave the impression the words and the anger behind it was not hus originally.

"That's why the first phase of the plan had been to destroy your empire." I must admit, I am a little miffed that my destruction was only a phase of the plan and not the final goal. I was….am the king of all vampires. I am the creme de la creme. What other feat could be bigger than defeating me?

He brightened somewhat when he found me paying careful attention to his recital. "I also know that two of the sisters had to be silenced because they rebelled against the Orison. That's the codename of the plan. It seems the sisters didn't have a problem with the initial phase but they balked when they needed to make a sacrifice to enact the last phase of the plan."

I raised a brow at him in contemplation. They….balked? Why? They cared for no one's life other than their own. They cared not for the life of the hunters that followed their dictates nor their own fellow witches, so what could they have balked at. And why would the sisters have turned on the|mselves? What the hell was project prison? Is there a disgruntled sister in the sisterhood that's just too scared to rebel?

"Is that all?" I asked calmly, my voice betraying no inflection whatsoever.

His eyes went wide again and he made haste to add another tidbit he thought I might consider important. “The breaker. The sacrifice they were to make would have helped them identify the breaker and bring her into the fold. She is the final piece of the puzzle. Without her, the final phase cannot begin.” Turns out he was right.

I gazed at him quietly, my eyes expressionless. Still, Arthur flinched almost imperceptibly. Even in my contemplative mood, it appears Mr. Braille still finds me unnerving.

He didn’t know how he came about the memories in his head which made it hard for him to lie to me. Most of what he said tallied with what Kara had told me. The actions of those bitches were only more confounding the more I learnt about them. They were a power hungry bunch and it didn't make sense when they had let the hunters have power over our affairs. Apparently, they’ve done that because their little game of chess wasn’t over yet. The only thing they held dear was power and that sisterhood of theirs, so what could have made them turn on themselves? I had grossly underestimated those beady eyed old women and obviously I’m still underestimating them, but no longer. I didn’t know who the breaker was, but if the seven sisters need her, then it was imperative that I get to her before them.

I rose to my feet as I mentally formulated my next move. Arthur whimpered at my retreating feet and I stopped short. I flicked a look at him over my shoulder before whipping out my phone. “Lilya, there has been a change in plans. Cancel the welcome party we have planned for Miss Braille. Meet her at the gate and take her to the house of Pule.”

I ignored his sigh of relief and murmured gratitudes and walked out of the basement, locking the metal door behind me.
