Chapter 52- Whispers In The Wind

Even Crystal believed she was a peculiar individual. Demons were rarely seen on the surface of the planet. They had servants to help with any duties that needed to be done on that plane. For her part, Zara and her sister had been spreading rumors about Demons murdering their father and taking their sister since they were eight years old. Crystal had a soft spot for her. They had discovered her father, who had been hanged behind their home. Zara was the one who discovered the body, and the experience has been playing tricks on her ever since. They were never able to locate her sister. Some believe that her father murdered her before hanging himself. Crystal made an effort not to dwell on the tragedy that had befallen their family. Whatever had happened, Zara had been damaged and terrified of her own shadow as a result.
She stood there and watched as a teacher led her out of the hall. Zara's cries had been reduced to audible mumbles by this point.
She made a mental note to follow up with Hugo to find out what he had done. Because, after all, they were good friends. Isn't it true that being nosy was a component of friendships? She had never behaved in such a hostile manner towards him before. He had always been courteous to her and engaged in light conversation. Crystal would even go so far as to refer to the two individuals as "friends."

“I will admit. You have done well to get the Hudson girl to like you,” Seth said as he walked into the cellar of the manor. Levi slightly lifted his head, too weak to lift it fully.
“Hay Levi, give me a call when you get this message,” he heard Crystal’s voice and his body felt the first bit of life in hours. Just the sound of her voice sent his heart racing, it was a melody that sung to his soul and awakened parts of him he didn’t know existed before he had met her.
“I will let you go. I have not forgotten what you did. If you try to save the Hudson witch, you will be the one to die,”
Seth moved closer and gripped his chin in his hands jerking his head to look at him.
“Am I understood?”
“Yes sir,” Levi croaked out.
The chains snapped and he crashed to the floor in a heap of pain.
He had feared the worst for Crystal. Now that he had heard her voice and the calmness within it, he knew she was more than fine. She was a strong-willed girl. A fighter and that made him have faith that she would come out on top.
Before he had met her, he had wanted to go home. He wanted revenge. He wanted his kingdom back. But there was something about Crystal that held his hate and anger at bay. Those things didn’t seem important any longer.
She had become his sole priority. Was it love? Perhaps she had become an obsession or was she just a friend? He couldn’t make sense of what he was feeling. All he knew was that he had to protect her.

School always dragged on for Crystal. But that day had seemed longer than normal. She couldn’t get the girl out of her head, nor the voice that whispered her name. It had happened frequently throughout the day. What was wrong with her? Finally, the bell rang, and she couldn’t wait to get out of the prison. As she was making her way through the hallway, she spotted Hugo.
“Hugo!” she called. He must not have heard her as he didn’t turn around. She dashed through the other students trying to catch up to him. Crystal haltered as he stopped to chat with Drake. Why would he…
Bump she was knocked to the floor. Quickly she jumped to her feet and gathered her belongings. Standing still in the corridor was never a promising idea.
She glanced back at Hugo and Drake. They looked to be in deep conversation. Yet it didn’t stop Drake from catching her eye and giving her a smirk, one that sent a shiver of fear through her. It was one of them looks that said I know something that you don’t. The not knowing was what scared her.
She would catch up with Hugo. Just not that day, asking about Zara could wait. Walking out the school doors, the winter sun momentarily blinded her. When her eyes adjusted, she saw Levi leaning against his car. She erupted into a wide grin and made her way towards him.
“Hay,” she said as she opened the door and tossed her bag onto the back seat.
“You want a lift?” Levi asked sarcastically raising his eyebrow.
“Unless you’re here to see someone else?” she mirrored his look, raising her own brow.
“Okay. You caught me. She can wait,” he winked at her opening the passenger car door. Crystal hopped in fastening her seatbelt. When she looked out of the window, she caught Levi looking towards the front doors.
Drake and Hugo were still chatting away as they left the building. Drake glanced towards Levi giving him a slight nod of his head. Crystal gulped as she turned to look at Levi who held his hands in fists tensely at his side. His face was set in a grim line. He didn’t move until Drake was out of sight.
When he got into the car his body was rigid and Crystal saw his eyes flash yellow. Putting her hand on his shoulder she whispered, “It’s okay, we will find out what he is up too. Then I am gonna wipe that stupid smirk off his face,” Levi turned towards her. His whole body and facial features softened.
“Wow someone is a bit feisty today,”
“Correction. I am feisty every day,” Levi let out a small laugh at her words and started the engine.
When they drove past the entrance to her community, she looked towards him for an explanation.
“We have a meeting with a seer,” he said casually.
“A seer?” she had heard of them before. Often humans thought they were witches. But they were something else entirely and they were always a fee to be paid if you ever requested their help.
