Chapter 57: Talk Your Shit
Adani's POV
I watched in abhor as Wayan approached with the necessary supplies in hand.
The Powercut Co-operation was a Lighting Manufacturer business owned, managed and handed down by Wayan's family. As soon as he was through with college, he landed a job there and worked his way up to become the supervisor of the distribution sector.
He was pleased of his accomplishments but would have tore me down for mine.
"I hope you don't start any drama, Wayan," I cautioned and tailed behind him as he entered the lobby. He stopped in his part and looked around in admiration.
"Your place is nice," he spoke.
"Is that suppose to be a compliment?" I questioned.
"It is."
"Keep it to yourself. This way to the top floor. You're to deliver and get the hell out afterwards!" I instructed with a snap. I led him to the stairs and watch him walked up the stairs. Shortly after, I followed behind.
"Are these correct?" I asked the worker when he opened the boxes.
"Yes ma'am. We'll have them installed immediately," he replied.
"Thank you."
~
I left the second floor and went back into the lobby where Wayan appeared a few seconds later.
"Can't you be welcoming and appreciative?" he asked.
"I'm not going to be welcoming to someone who tried their all to break me down."
"Adani, you've always been pulchritudinous when you're vocal. And trust me sweetie, what I did, that wasn't my all," he responded.
"And you're bragging about it. You're such a coward."
"I may be a lot of things but I'm not a coward."
"Sure you are. A man who has hands and feet on a woman but can never have the same energy for a man. You couldn't even raise a finger on Ricardo's bodyguard or on Ricardo himself. Coward!"
"Your little weakling white boy wouldn't be able to compete even if his life depends on it. And why should I lay hands on him, he hasn't done anything to me."
"He has me."
"And I don't care."
"You're a liar. You've been shadowing me since I left your house and your life."
"That was once upon a time. I'm in a new relationship now with a much better woman. You really think I would waste my life and my time chasing after you?"
"Trust me, I was hoping you'd give up because you were an annoyance to my fiancé and me."
"When is the wedding?"
"That's none of your business."
"You two haven't set a date yet, huh?"
"You should stop asking questions that is none of your business," I reiterated.
"Adani, you need to stop with these games and come back home. Why are you fixed on tormenting me?"
"Tormenting you?" I asked with a laugh.
"Yes. You ran away from our home where we've planned our whole lives together. You moved in with a guy you've never met, someone you didn't even know! You fell for him, became his side-piece and worked your way up to his fianceé. You left me by myself and you just moved on without a care. How could you?"
"If you're trying to make me feel bad, you've succeeded. I want to slap myself for not leaving your ass sooner."
"Adani..."
"No Wayan. You need to stop right there. Need I remind you of all the shit you've put me through! I've endured YEARS of abuse in every way possible! I've been humiliated and made a laughing-stock behind my back and in-front of my face! You've even impregnated another woman and had the audacity to sit me down at the same fucking table with her! You want to stand in front of me and talk your shit about me tormenting you?"
"I'm sorry. Adani, I'm sorry. From the bottom of my heart, baby, I'm sorry. I'm lost without you. I can't think, I can't sleep, I can't eat!"
"Think about Penelope. Sleep with Penelope. Have her feed you. You'll be okay."
"No, I wouldn't. I don't love her. I thought showing up with her would make you jealous, I don't know what I was thinking. I wasn't thinking. I want you back. Please come back. Adani, I'm begging you."
"Wayan, you and I are over."
"Don't say that."
"I can't do that to myself all over again. You'll never change. You're all out of chances and I'm all out of love for you."
"You're making a mistake. He wouldn't be able to love you like I do."
"I wouldn't want him to."
"Oh, so you think the way I showed my love was all wrong and bad, just wait until you're stuck in his world where you'll never fit in or be accepted. His own mother hates you and he wouldn't pick his mother over you. They would always stick to their own to toss out the outcast. You."
"You think that would make me turn to you again?"
"He's going to spoil you. Give you everything you can't buy for yourself then he's going to throw you aside."
"Well, I'll enjoy all the gifts until then. As for you, you need to leave."
"Think about..."
"Get out of my building, Wayan."
"Fine. Goodbye, Adani."
He left.
~
I hated that feeling. The one you would have when you exchange words with someone you no longer wishes to see or with someone you know doesn't have your best interest at heart. No matter how much of a strong defense you might put up, a few of their words would get underneath your skin because somewhere along those verbal exchange, they would or might say something that is true.
~
My phone vibrated in my purse as I headed for the drinking water fountain. I reached for it and noticed it was Mrs. Parriston calling me.
"Adani, darling, how are you?"
"I'm good."
"You don't sound like it. Care to share, have you and Ricardo been fighting again?"
"Again, how did you know we..."
"Sweetie, he is my son."
'Of course' I thought.
"Shall we do lunch again soon?" she asked again.
"Mrs. Parriston, the last conversation we had involved you telling me a lie about your own son," I told her. She broke into laughter before replying.
"Adani, I can say what I want. It's up to you to believe it or not. The fact that you're so gullible would only prove that you don't know my son or you don't trust him. Be it that's the case, you two shouldn't be getting married."
"So that's what that was about, me marrying your son?"
"Can I be honest?"
"Please do."
"I don't like you."
"I'm well aware."
"You don't care why I don't like you?"
"No. I don't."
"Why so?"
"Because you're not the one I lay in bed with every night."
She scoffed so I decided to egg it on.
"You're not the one who pulls my underwear off and lick me between my folds."
"Adani.."
"You're not the one inserting a finger into me and making me wet."
"You disgusting..."
"You're not the one turning me over and your name isn't the one I moan."
"Arrughhh!" she squealed.
"And you're not dicking me down! So why should I care?"
She hung up and I laughed wholeheartedly as I put away my phone.
It was then I noticed Ricardo was standing behind me.
