Chapter Twenty-Five

Maria Pov*

Rico hasn't come home since yesterday, it makes me feel anxious.

Pushing him away yesterday feels wrong as it was right, the look in his eyes, his desire for me I wanted it, deep down in my soul I know I feel the same way but every time I look at him, all I see is the pain I have caused many families through him.

Joshua, Anna, Shaun…… Shaun, I need to find a way to reach him, I need to know more about my family situation.

But I can't reach him by phone if he can be my bodyguard like he claimed.

No….he can't. Rico will never allow it, it will only lead to more problems.

I can't let Shaun get hurt because of me again. I gasped when the door to the penthouse opened, I was in the living room reading some books and the last thing I expected was for anyone to enter.

Kai and Patrick came inside the room, they were bruised on their face but it wasn't much, I feel thankful. Knowing Rico, he would have done way worse, this was nothing.

They came in front of me, looking at each other to talk, I guess they had something to inform me, and I coughed letting them know that I was waiting for them.

“We…” Patrick stopped but Kai kicked his stomach and he grunted but adjusted himself to speak. “We want to thank you, and I wanted to apologize for what I said yesterday. I shouldn't have, it was stupid of me”

“If it wasn't for you, we would have ended up like the other guys or even worse. I'm sorry, and we promised to make sure to protect you better than before, if you want anything you can ask me, I owe my life to you after all” he paused and started again to continue before Kak cut him short.

“We just want to say we are sorry and thankful. And we are outside if you need anything” he said and tapped Patrick for them to move.

“Wait” I called stopping them from moving. You mentioned the others, what did Rico do to them?”

Their face turned red immediately, and I could tell it was worse than I could ever imagined. I shouldn't have told him, keep it to myself, another person's demise is on me and I don't even know their name.

“They deserved it, I understand this is our world and women are treated inappropriately, but they speaking about you in that way is wrong. No one deserved to speak down on, it was stupid”

Kai was right but also wrong, they were wrong for the way they talked or their thoughts but it doesn't justify their dying, I don't want to feel guilty for a person like them.

“Thank you”

“You are welcome, we will be outside in case you need anything. And you don't have to be scared about how coming in without permission, it won't happen again” he assured and Patrick nodded in agreement while I smiled, he is kind, he look unapproachable with his body and face but I could tell he is kindhearted.

I opened to respond when the door suddenly and a blonde hair, tanned skin, tall, and a body fit for the model, even now you could misjudge her standing for posing, she was dressed in expensive clothes and accessories along with a special edition bag, it was so obvious by the way.

She was in heavy makeup but I could see how gorgeous she would look without it, she was indeed beautiful.

“Miss Angel” Kai called with surprise on his face, they know her and whoever she is, they aren't happy that she is here.

She walked toward me ignoring the boys, and sat next to the couch without my permission, the way she acted only tells me one thing.

“You must be her,” She said and looked at me with disgust, it infuriated me but I didn't say anything. “He could have done better, but he must have realized his mistakes that is why he spent the night with me yesterday, it was so glorious”

I was seeing red, Rico left the house to be with her, it couldn't be true. ‘But why do I care?’ my inner voice countered and I grunted.

If he is going to be possessive about me, this is the least I can do.

“I guess that makes you his mistress, it says a lot about why you aren't his wife” If she thinks I'm going to let her talk to me like that she is wrong.

“What?” The bitch flares up and wanted to charge at me but Kai blocked her. “Get out of my way, you smut”

I wondered what Rico sees in her, she has some nasty behavior.

“You should calm down, Rico is on his way”

“Because of her?” I couldn't help but ask, he would ignore me for weeks and days but would show up when his mistress was involved, how delightful, except it wasn't.

The grin on her face shows she could read my attention and it unnerves me.

I was disappointed and hurt, it felt like I lost a battle that hadn't started yet. Why marry me when he has someone, was making me suffer worth all this?

I need closure but that is what I won’t get around Rico, it hurts and what hurts more is I don't know why I feel this pain.

Rico pov*

“Speak”

“Good evening boss, you might need to come back now”

“Did something happen to Maria?” I enquired quickly as I watched Leonard take a cigarette and lighter from his pocket, he lit up his cigar and walked to the man using the down part of it to burn him on his previous wound.

Hypocrite bastard, it was so clear that he wanted to torture, Leon has a hobby that only me and dad know about, and it started with my maternal grandpa's decision, he messed up a good obedient grandson and made him into something inhumane.

“No, but I think something might”

“What is going on?”

“Angel is here with your wife, and things aren't going well”

Another groan escaped from the server's mouth while Leonard's smile widened in the most psychotic way.

“I'm on my way”

I should have told him not to kill him, but I wouldn't bother as I took my coat and left the basement, my clothes were stained with blood, it would take a lot of minutes before I changed and showered, I couldn't go like this because it will only terrify Mia.

She hates the sight of blood and smell of it I know cos I made her hate it.

“This won't do” I cussed. “Kai?” I questioned if he was still on the phone.

“Yes boss”

“If Angel tries to hurt Mia, shoot her on sight without hesitation”

“But, the Mayor and your father, if anything happens to Angel”

“I don't care about Angel, she hurts my wife she is going to die along with you guys. So you decided, a worthless brat or your life”
