CHAPTER 11
Rebecca's pov
"I'm sorry."
It was like all the air in my lungs dried out, he just apologised to me? Well, guess he wasn't as stuck up as I thought... But too bad, I'm not forgiving him, anytime from now.
I looked away, embracing the silence. I guess he took that as a cue to continue...
"What I did to you was, uncalled for. I don't do that to women, it's not what-"
I turned harshly to him. "But you did it to me."
That shut him up for a while.
"And I'm trying to do what's right by apologizing."
I scoffed. "I don't need your apology, Emeliano... I don't want it- no matter what you say or do, it's not going to change the fact that you mentally scarred me, it doesn't change the fact that I hate you... I can't forgive you and I definitely can't forget about what you did... I'm trying to move on from that horrible experience, I don't know why you're hell bent on making me remember."
He cocked a brow at me. "You're not gonna make this easy for me, are you?" He looked away.
"I'm not making anything- I just don't want to hear your apology... It's useless, I'm not gonna forgive you... Ever. So you can take your sorry, and shove it up your fudging ass." I let out a breath of relief. There it is, I let it out!
He looked a little shocked at this. "I never say sorry to anyone. Ever. I won't let you refuse my first apology."
"So? sorry for putting a red ink on your pride... I don't need it, so maybe we can pretend this never happened, you never apologised to me. Let's leave it at that. Aren't you late for work? Start up this engine- let's move." I said, my eyes locked with his.
He gave a frustrated chuckle and scratched his jaw before looking away with a frown on his face, his jaw was set in a hard way. "I don't care what you say or think. I've done what is right, it's up to you to take it or leave it." That was the last thing he said, all through the ride down to his company.
Did I do the right thing by refusing his apology? Did he even mean it?
I'm not gonna think about this! Come on Becca, focus on the mission! With a deep breath, I followed him into the grand building, well, in summary, all I saw was glass! It was all bright and shiny, different kinds of glasses all over the place. People gave me weird looks but they still greeted me and I answered with a bright smile.
I noticed something though, no one in this organization dared to make eye contact with Emeliano, they paid their respects with their heads down, and didn't say anything when he ignored them.
People were everywhere, working like their lives depended on it, they were all dressed in formal office wear and all other professional looking outfits.
When Emeliano stepped into a private elevator, I followed him.
"How can you be so rude? Over 30 people greeted you and you couldn't even acknowledge their existence? That is just plain rude." I said to him, but as usual, he ignored me and checked his wrist watch.
"Do not try to ignore me, Emeliano, I won't let this slide so easily. You have to be a gentleman sometimes, it's so obvious that people fear you, are you really okay with that?"
Silence.
"I knew you were an asshole but now I'm convinced you're worse than that! You're a butt hole!" What?
Emeliano scrunched his brows and gave me a weird look, I could see the gears turning in his brain until the corners of his lips lifted up in amusement. "What's the difference?" He asked.
"Oh, so you're not dumb?"
Ding!
The elevator opened up and Emeliano stepped out, I was guessing the big glassy office was his. Walking out after him, I took note of his secretary, her legs were propped up on her desk as she shoveled down the ice cream from a carton on her lap, she didn't bother to put her legs down as she saw Emeliano.
Some secretary.
But when her eyes met mine and widened, hastily, she dropped her legs down, swallowing her mouthful of icecream. She then cocked a brow at Emeliano before giving me the look of surprise.
"How many times have I told you not to disrespect my table?" Emeliano asked her, he didn't sound harsh at all.
"Sorry sir." She said quickly, looking from me to Emeliano.
"Rebecca?" Emeliano called out my name in full and as usual, my stomach acted funny.
"Yes?" I answered.
"Go in... I'll be with you in a few... I want to discuss something with my secretary." He ordered.
All I did was shoot him a stern look before turning to his secretary with a smile, holding out my hand for a handshake, I introduced myself. "I'm Rebecca Lewis, Emeliano's- hostage and you?"
Emeliano made a sound of annoyance at the back of his throat, but I ignored him.
His secretary shook my hand with a bright smile on her face. "Piper, Piper Roadster, Pleasure to meet you, Becca."
"Pleasure is all mine, now if you'll excuse me, I'll head into his office before he asks me to-" I looked out the corner of my eye, to find Emeliano glaring at me, in return, I gave him a sweet smile. "...take off my clothes, we wouldn't want some major sight damage now, would we?" My smile dropped to a glare before I made my way into his office.
His office was large, as expected... It had this hard atmosphere that screamed 'work' typical
"I was not expecting her to be this beautiful."
I paused when I heard Piper talking in harsh whispers, I moved slowly to the door so I could eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Whatever, I regret ever bringing her along- should have just ignored her pleas." Emeliano replied.
"Come on! Who can say no to that cute face- if you don't mind me saying, she's even prettier than Her." Piper's voice got my attention again.
"I mind you saying that, no one is prettier than Her. Not even Rebecca." He sounded like he was trying really hard to convince himself.
Hold on a minute... Who's this "her" they're talking about?
"We both know the truth- anyway, She called this morning- she wanted to talk to you." Piper said.
"Really? What did you tell her?" Emeliano sounded strangely eager.
Whoever this "her" person is, she must mean so much to him... I've never heard him use that kind of tone before.
"That you weren't here yet, she sounded really pissed- I-I think she knows about Rebecca."
My heart beat escalated... Why am I being mentioned in this conversation?
"That's the plan... Very soon, she wouldn't be able to stand it anymore, she'll come in person. Then I can finally see her."
I heard Piper sigh. "Emeliano, why don't you just leave her alone- she's moved on, I mean- what's done is done."
"I can't forget about her Piper, I see her everywhere and it's even worse now because, everytime I look at Rebecca, I see her... I'm just- I just want her back."
"Just think about it- don't hurt Rebecca for something she knows nothing about."
Silence followed and immediately, I stepped away from the door, shakily, I walked backwards until I landed on a soft couch, my mind, all over the place.
Now I understand, Emeliano didn't just kidnap me because I disrespected him, there was something more to this and I can't help but think that it had to be that "her" they were talking about.
But who could she be? And why does Emeliano talk about her like that? And most importantly, what does it have to do with me?
