Chapter 48: A Beautiful Life

*Jasmine*

Jasmine nodded and took off her robe as he watched, his eyes combing her body. Although she was happy that tomorrow would be their wedding day, she was sad that it wasn’t real. But it always would be for her... no matter what happened between them in the time to come.
Try as she might, she couldn’t sleep, so she rolled over to face Zain. “Are you awake?”
His head nodded slightly in the moonlight. “Yes, of course.”
“Promise me our life together will be amazing.” She took in the sight of him lying in his bed with his arm tucked behind his head, shirtless as the moonlight illuminated his body.
“I promise.” There was a pause in the dimly lit room. “Look. We’re committing to each other tomorrow, no matter what happens on Monday. And I promise you, that commitment will stay with me... always.”
Jasmine smiled, starry-eyed as she dreamed of what tomorrow—and their lives—held. “Always.”
Zain let out a contented sigh as he turned to face her, his eyes illuminated in the moonlight. “We’re going to have a beautiful life.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
At that moment, Jasmine knew that together, they could do anything. One way or another, everything was going to work out between them. It had to.
Here in this place, anything was possible. Why wouldn’t it work out between two people who loved each other? After all, people were married in Las Vegas all the time.
As silence fell over them, Jasmine felt like they were entering a different world. It would no longer be her life alone. No matter what happened, her life was now Zain’s, and his life would now be hers.
Jasmine lay on the bed for a while thinking of their wedding day, determined not to think any further than that. Jasmine wanted to savor this moment, and their promise of passion and commitment.
Zain had wanted to marry her before taking her to his bed, even though their marriage would be short-lived. Any other man would have taken her to bed and never seen her again. But not Zain. This was just as much a commitment for him as it was for her. She just hoped their love lasted.
Soon, exhaustion took over, and she quietly drifted off to sleep, as dreams of their new life together danced through her mind.

“Jasmine, wake up.”
It was a man’s voice, deep and husky with want. But she was on the beach with Zain, making love to him in the sand as ocean waves rushed over their bodies.
“Jasmine, do you want to get married today?”
That was definitely Zain.
Jasmine sat straight up, nearly hitting his nose, but he quickly jumped out of the way just in time.
“Do you want to marry me or kill me?” he teased, giving her a sexy smile as he sat on the edge of her bed, gazing into her eyes.
“Can I answer that after I have a shower and coffee?”
He burst out laughing. “How’s your head?”
“Fine.” She wrapped her arms around her legs. “I was so excited that I didn’t get much sleep last night.”
A sexy look colored his face. “Neither did I.” He tilted his head to the side. “I had a sexy brunette sleeping on a bed just a few feet away from mine.”
“Ha, ha!” She stood and slipped into her robe. “Could you order coffee and room service? I’ll be right out.”
“Sounds good.”
“I’ll get you my credit card—” She started toward her purse, but he stopped her.
“Oh, no!” He headed toward the phone. “I’ve got it.”
Jasmine scoffed. “Zain, you paid for dinner last night. I didn’t work all summer with you so you could pay for everything.”
“Sweetheart, working with you wasn’t working at all for me.” He chuckled, giving her a sexy grin as he sat on his bed in just his boxers, his muscled chest bare as he dialed room service.
While he made the call, she quickly gathered her things and headed into the shower. She tried to remember everything she should do before the wedding.
So, after she showered, she shaved, making sure she was presentable. Then she slid into the silk robe, wrapped a towel around her hair, and walked out, planning to slip into her wedding dress while he was in the shower.
He looked her up and down when she came out, his eyes wide as he hurried toward the bathroom. “I’ll be right out.”
“Take your time.” After she heard the shower running, she slipped into a new white lace panty and bra set, slipped into her dress, and looked in the mirror.
It was a diamond white ballgown, over the shoulder with a V-neck, open in the back, with a small strap across her back near the bottom. Delicate lace covered the bodice, and the skirt was full and made of tulle, over top a satin underskirt, and it had a cathedral-length train that dragged lightly across the floor behind her.
As she looked in the mirror, it showed off her small waist and curves. Then she blew her hair dry, styled it into waves over my shoulders, and applied light makeup, feeling like Cinderella preparing to go to the ball. Then she topped it off with white silk stilettos and stood on the balcony when Zain walked out, giving him a little privacy so he could get ready, too.
“Oh. My. God!” Zain gasped behind me. When she turned around, his mouth was open. “You look gorgeous.” He quickly closed the distance between them, wearing a gray suit and tie, a crisp white dress shirt, and silver and black cufflinks. His black shoes shone, and his dark brown hair was combed perfectly. He took her hands and said, “Jasmine, you’re a vision. I truly have never seen a woman so beautiful in my life.”
“Thank you.” A smile lit her lips as a slight blush colored her cheeks, pleased with his reaction. “You look very handsome. I’ve never seen a more handsome man than you, Zain.”
He took a step closer, looking deeply into my eyes. “I didn’t expect you to wear a wedding dress, but it’s perfect.”
“It’s not,” she corrected. “It’s a ballgown.”
He nodded, smiling as he offered her his arm. “Ready?”
“Don’t you want to eat first?” She thought she would feel nervous, but she was more excited than anything.
“I ate a few bites of fruit but was too nervous to eat anything else.” He arched an eyebrow. “You?”
Jasmine shook her head. “No, I’ll eat after we’re married. And this time, it’s my treat.”
“No way.” he led her toward the door. “So, are you ready for this?”
“Absolutely.”
People gave them a wide berth as they passed. Excitement filled Jasmine’s chest as they stepped into the elevator.
“This is your last chance to back out,” Zain teased, arching an eyebrow.
“Not on your life.” But she didn’t say the same thing to him, not wanting to give him the option. After all this, it’d break her heart if he backed out now.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, they walked through the casino and people offered their congratulations as they passed.
“Don’t do it!” a man teased a distance away as everyone laughed.
But Jasmine and Zain ignored the comment as they headed straight to the Chapel of the Fountain. Nothing could ruin this day for them. Nothing.
