XXII. Random Colored Mini-Lollipops
Raine’s POV:
“What?”
“My name is-”
“No-” I cut him off, “Before that.”
“Your friend is with us.”
“No. No. After that.”
“Our Alpha is finding you?”
“Yes!” I drop the phone on the ground. I’m mated to not just any werewolf, but an Alpha.
Holy shit.
I read about them, and the only type of werewolf that’s worse than them are Lycans except Lycans are more on the manipulative side rather than dominant aggressive.
I shook my head and picked up the phone. “Are you certain?”
“That we have your friend?” Miguel question. “Well, I’m quite certain it’s her unless-”
“No. I meant about your Alpha.”
“We only have one Alpha.”
“No! I meant I’m your Alpha’s mate!” I was getting more and more agitated, particularly with the guy named Miguel on the other end.
“Ah. Yes, you’re his mate. Now, my best advice is to turn yourself in. Our Alpha may not look like it but he can get pretty aggressi-”
“Let me speak to your Alpha,” I said.
I heard Alphas are quite dominating but they do have a weak spot.
Their Lunas.
If I speak cautiously and softly then he may release Helen. Helen can go back to our town and I’ll somehow find a way to go back too. Not the most perfect plan, but it’s what I can come up with at the moment.
“No can do,” Miguel said.
“Why not?” How can his Alpha not want to talk to me? I heard Alpha crave their Luna’s attention.
“Because-” he pauses for a long time. “Because-” he pauses again. “He-” he stops talking for the third time.
“Are you trying to come up with an excuse as to why your Alpha can’t speak to me?” I exposed him.
“No. No. Of course not. It’s just our Alpha is busy interrogating your friend-” he said slowly, “and so, he cannot come to the phone.”
“So, mind link him.”
“I could, but he’s mad at you so he does not want to come to the phone. Now, if you don’t want your friend to get hurt. Turn yourself in. And don’t even think about calling the enforcers because we will know. I’ll message you the address.” The phone call ended and soon, I felt a buzz. I look down to see the location address.
With a deep exhalation, I turn towards Betsy and Donna. I gave them the address and got into the car. Betsy chuckled, “Wow. Fancy place you’re staying at.” She punches the location in the GPS for Donna.
“It’s a good place?” I question.
“Try extravagant.” Betsy pushes the GPS into the glass. “It’s one of the priciest hotels in the city.”
“Oh. Yay me.” I look over to my left to see Malcolm staring at me.
“May I ask you a question?”
“Yes.”
“Do humans really eat werewolves?”
I notice Betsy and Donna exhale at the same time. “Malcolm. For the last time-”
“No,” I said. I didn’t want Malcolm to get in trouble later because of my discomfort towards him questions. “Humans don’t eat werewolf.”
“But, I heard that humans eat other creatures to get power.”
The smile was still on my face, “Where did you hear that from silly?”
“The orphanage.”
“Sorry-” Betsy intervened, “Malcolm has an overactive imagination.”
Malcolm crosses his arms and pout, “I do not,” he grumbles. “The kids at the orphanage-”
“Malcolm-” Donna warned him to stop.
I exhale softly, “Don’t worry. Humans do not eat other creatures.” I mess up his hair, “And even if I did-” my voice deepens. “It’s only because you’re so cute! Cute enough to eat! Rawr!” I pretend to eat him causing everyone to laugh.
“No!” Malcolm squeals, attempting to run away but his baby chair was holding him back.
“So yummy!” I pretend to eat his small feet.
The ride was less terrifying when there’s something to distract you. For me, it was a little werewolf named Malcolm. He would ask questions that I would feel offended if I’m from this world, but good for him, I’m not.
Malcolm grabs my hand, “Do you have to go? You can stay with us!”
Betsy exhaled, “Malcolm. Her friend is waiting for her.”
Malcolm pulls out his whole shiny lower lip, “I’m your friend too.”
I smile, “Of course you’re my friend,” I said. “How about this? We exchange numbers and you can message me anytime.”
“But, I don’t have a phone. I’m too small.”
“You can message Raine on mommy’s phone,” Betsy said.
Malcolm smiles and claps. Then, it started again. The howling. Betsy said Malcolm howled more than regular werewolves’ kids. It’s part of their traits that will eventually decline over time.
I mess up Malcolm’s hair one more time before I close the door. I knock against the window. Betsy rolled down the glass.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Not a problem. Get home safely.”
I nodded and took a few steps back. While I stood there, waving mindlessly at the moving car. I know I was simply wasting time.
Finally, I got a chance to evaluate the hotel in front of me. It’s extravagant like Betsy said. I pat the bag to feel the gun inside. With a deep breath, I head into the swirling glass door. Indoors was even better than outside, with the well-kept plants and expensive decors.
A woman made her way towards me, with nothing out of place not even a single strand of hair. Her eyes quickly scan my body, probably wondering if I’m lost. “Hello. Are you lost?”
Ding. Right on the target.
“No. I’m actually here to meet someone?”
Her eyes dart towards my body again. I’m certain I look like a hungry hobo with my dirt-stained clothes and messy hair. Plus, I am hungry.
“Follow me please,” she said. I have a feeling she may be walking me towards the back door. She stops at the front desk. “May I ask who you’re looking for?”
“I believe his name is Miguel Tran.”
The woman nods, and her fingers roam around the keyboard. I notice how there’s a lack of people in the lobby. Then again, how many people can actually afford to stay in this palace? My eyes went towards the bowl of random colored mini-lollipops.
“Ah. Here he is,” the woman said. “Beta Miguel Tran of Crescent Moon.”
I nod, “That would be him.”
“Would you like me to call him?”
“Yes please.”
“May I ask your name?”
“Raine Fall.”
She picks up the phone and punches in a few numbers. I tilt back and forth, my hand grip firmly onto the strap. Exhaling a deep breath, my eyes moved away from the candy.
“Good evening. I’m calling for Beta Miguel Tran of Crescent Moon.”
I couldn’t hear the reply.
“Yes. There is a young woman named Raine Fall here to see you.”
I wish I had super hearing.
“Yes. I’ll call someone to send her up. Have a good day.” She hangs up the call and her bright smile returns. “I’ll call someone to escort you up.”
I nod, “Thank you.”
Not too long after, an elder man made his appearance. “Please, follow me,” he said.
I nod and turn my shoes. Before I took two steps, I grabbed a few lollipops. The lady didn’t say anything instead smiled faintly before she resumed her work behind the counter. I sneak the lollipops into my bag then follow the man. He made his way down the hall, turned right, and opened a double door room to reveal two elevators. He pressed the button and immediately it opened up. I can tell it’s an elevator for important people.
Inside the elevator, a sweet melody made its appearance. Well, regular calming elevator music. I stared at the changing number, which continuously increased. Once the elevator dinged, he waited for me to exit first. I swallowed when I saw a single entrance.
Once he opens the door, my mouth widens. The room was huge and didn’t look like a hotel room at all. It was more like a suite in one of those palaces I would see on television.
When he closes the door behind me, my body leaps back.
“You must be Luna Raine,” a deep voice spoke from up the spiral stair.
