“Surprise,” David muttered from behind me.
I slammed my mouth shut as I stepped into the room. Colorful flowers, all sizes in different vases were littered all around the room, cover every surface. The heavy perfume of flowers in the air made my nose wrinkle. I like flowers but I certainly didn’t love them.
“What. . .why?” I shook my head in disbelieve. “Where did you get all these flowers?”
I crossed my arms over my chest and turned to David as I waited for his explanation. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed.
“I ordered them,” he muttered. “Some of the boys helped me sneak it upstairs.”
“Why?”
David gave me a small smile as color flooded his cheeks. He turned and looked at Devon with a raised eyebrow. Devon held his hands up and took a step back.
“Don’t look at me. I never told you to buy—”
“You’re the one who said we needed to do something special for Val on—”
Devon’s hand shot out and clamped down on David’s mouth, instantly silencing him. David growled at him. With a wink in my direction and a promise to see me for dinner, Devon dragged David out of the room and down the hall.
I chuckled but it failed as I turned to stare at the flowers again. It’s going to take weeks to get the smell out of the room. What am I supposed to do with all the damn flowers?
Shaking my head, I walked over to the bedside table and searched for the book I was telling one of the women about. I was just going to deliver the book and then start setting everything up. I needed things to be perfect.
It was only our second Valentine’s day together but last year didn’t count since we never celebrate it before. It was Mel’s idea—a human celebration—to spice things up between the three of us. Not that we needed any spicing up.
But Mel had talked and I had listened. Whatever she said had ideas running through my mind. Ideas to get David and Devon to take things a bit further between the two of them.
My lips curled into a smirk. I couldn’t wait to watch them.

Nervousness made my stomach cramp.
The table had been set with the cutlery and the red decorations. The lasagne only needed a few more seconds in the oven and then it would be ready too. I grabbed the basket of rose petals from the floor next to the table and made my way toward the door.
Three steps from the door, I started throwing the petals on the floor, creating a path into the kitchen and the table. Once that was done, I hid the basket and checked on the lasagne. It was ready and looked great.
I placed the pan in the middle of the table and covered it.
My eyes darted over to the clock. I only had half an hour before they got home.
With my hands on my hips, I took a few steps back and studied my handy work. It looked great!
“Time to get dressed,” I muttered.
I had ordered a little something special to wear when I asked them to be my valentine. I just hoped that they liked it. It was something I would never have thought I’d ever wear. But it was sexy and flattering.
My legs felt like jelly and my heart was beating a mile a minute. I realized my hands were shaky as I got dressed.
It was stupid to be so nervous since they already belonged to me. They wouldn’t reject me right? They couldn’t. We were mates already.
But I had a sinking feeling in my stomach as I walked back out of the bedroom. It was confirmed twenty minutes later when Devon called to let me know that they had an emergency and wouldn’t be able to make it for dinner.
I placed the lasagne back in the oven, switched off all the lights, and then changed into my night clothes before sliding into bed. It was a flop—I should’ve known better.
