❤️ DEVON ❤️

I smelled the lasagne the moment I entered the house. So Vanya had cooked for us. She sounded very upset when I called to let her know that we were going to be late.
My eyes dropped to the floor and I came to a shocking halt, making David slam into my back. He gripped my hips to stop our fall before he moved around me.
“Shit.”
I followed him into the kitchen and stared at the decorated table. Three plates were set but two had a heart-shaped red card in the middle of them. I licked my lips as I reached out to pick the card up.
“Will you be my valentine?” I read out loud.
“This one says the same,” David muttered, lowering the card.
Our eyes locked. His held the same emotion I was sure was being reflected in my eyes. We fucked up again. It felt like messing things up was the only thing we’ve been doing lately.
David cursed under his breath as he ran his hand through his hair. “Are you sure you heard Valeria right when she spoke to Mel?”
“She was talking about Valentine’s day,” I told him as I opened the oven to peek inside. “The moment I heard that panic hit and I took off to do some research.”
“So let me get this straight”—he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back against the table—“you didn’t listen to their whole conversation? Only part of it?”
I shrugged and turned to face him. “I panicked.”
David sighed and straightened. He gave me a rueful smile. “Blame it on the panic,” he muttered. “I think you should’ve stayed longer and listened a little bit more.”
“You think so?”
He nodded. “Did she eat?”
“No.”
David walked over to me and wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me against him. He pressed his lips against mine but pulled away before I could deepen the kiss.
“We fucked up, babe. Now we need to fix it.”
I nodded. “What do you have in mind?”
“Call Mel so we can find out exactly what our little mate had planned for us.”

“Val,” I brushed a few strands of hair from her cheek. “Hey, little dove, time to get up.”
She groaned and turned around with her back to me. Chuckling, I tugged the sheet off her before I leaned down and slipped my arms underneath her to pull her against my chest. Val growled at me but wrapped her arms around my neck and buried her face against my neck.
“I hate you.”
“I love you too.”
She sighed and raised her head when I lowered her to the floor in the bathroom. Her eyes widened when they fell on the bathtub.
“What the?”
“Take a bath,” I told her. “Relax for as long as you want and then join us for a late-night dinner. There will be a box waiting on the bed for you when you’re done.”
“Okay,” she said after a few minutes of silence.
I gave her a wink before I walked out of the bathroom and made sure to close the door firmly behind me. David had already made the bed and was just placing the box down on the bed along with the little card and a single rose.
He smiled at me as he straightened. “All set?”
“Yes. Anything else we need to do?”
“Just wait for Val to join us downstairs.”
