Chapter 26 – Lia
Diesel’s POV
Having her straddled behind me and squeezing me tight feels so good. She is right where she was meant to be, with me. I needed her like a fish needs water.
“I need mate too!” Duke barked at me. “We need to mark and mate already!” He howled in my head. If it was up to him, he would have done it the moment we set eyes on her. Holding him back hasn’t been easy.
“Duke, I’ve told you before, we need to go slow. Our mate isn’t ready yet, you can’t rush these things.” I told him.
“You won’t be able to stop her heat; she will be ours soon!” He reminded me.
“Let’s hope she’s ready and that she wants us.” I told him. “I want to see my mate and run with her.” He demanded.
“Soon Duke, soon.” I assured him and he whimpered in my head longing for his mate.
So much for a ferocious Alpha wolf, Duke was turning soft on me. “Speak for yourself pup.” He snickered back at me.
We made it to Crescent Point, this place was beautiful no matter what time of year. The waterfall had a strong connection to my element and pulsed power through my body. I watched as Lucy took in the view of the waterfall with wonder in her eyes. “This place is amazing.” She smiled.
“You should see it in the warmer months, under a full moon, green grass and wildflowers.” I imagined bringing her here for a picnic in the spring
and spending hours mating with her on this exact spot. I pulled her to me and kissed her. I struggled to control my need and bent down to rest my forehead onto hers. I looked into those enchanting eyes of hers and my heart was on fire. I wanted her, every inch of her.
“Duke can hardly wait to run with Lia.” I told her and he barked in my head, jumping with joy. “He’s been a lovesick puppy ever since we found you.”
She was quiet for a moment contemplating what I had just told her. I wish I could read her thoughts, but since she wasn’t marked yet or officially a member of the pack until the Luna ceremony, I couldn’t mind link her or feel her emotions. She took a few steps back from me and continued to gaze at me. “I have something I need to show you.” She started taking off her clothes.
I wasn’t sure what to say or do, I watched her undress and set her clothes down on the snowmobile. She crouched down in the snow and I heard the sound of bones cracking. My shift took only a few seconds, but hers was longer. She’s still new to shifting, I realized. Duke was howling in my head, begging to be released, he was about to gaze on his mate for the first time.
Then, I saw her! My breath caught in my throat, my mouth fell open and I blinked my eyes several times in disbelief. She looked up at me with those same amber colored eyes and her fur - Sweet Moon Goddess, could it be?
I fell to my knees in complete shock. I couldn’t find any words. How is this possible? How did I not know? This is incredible!
She walked over to me and licked me on the cheek. My voice came out nearly breathless, “Lucy, you are amazing!” I rubbed my head on her wolf head and she cuddled back, rubbing her head back against me. “Lia is so beautiful.”
Duke started barking at me. “Mate! I want mate! MATE, MATE, MATE!”
“Lucy, I wish I could mind link you and hear what you’re thinking.
Duke is begging to be let out. Is Lia ready to meet him?” She nodded her head and barked.
“Okay boy, that’s a yes, be gentle with her.” I told him and quickly took my clothes off to shift.
A second later Lia pounced on my big black Alpha wolf. Duke barked with joy and Lia yipped back at him. They started rubbing their bodies up against each other, exchanging scents. Duke gave Lia a slobbery lick across the face and she did the same. They were soon chasing each other in the snow and rolling around. Lia let out a low howl and motioned at us to follow her and took off running, she was fast! We couldn’t catch her.
“Mate is so amazing and beautiful.” Duke proudly told me.
“She sure is!” I agreed. I looked around for her, where did she go?
She pounced on us from behind a big fallen tree and we rolled around. Duke desperately wanted to mount and claim her, I had to hold him back. We ran back to the snowmobile and when we stopped, Duke stuck his muzzle under Lia’s tail and sniffed her.
“DUKE, STOP ACTING LIKE A HORNY OLD DOG!” I scolded him.
She started to shift back, and it took her almost a full minute. My shift was about three seconds. When she was done, she stood up and I pulled her naked body to mine.
“Still think I’m a myth?” She smiled up at me. All I could do was kiss her and I felt her hands roaming on my back and down to my butt. Her touch was magic on my skin.
“Let’s get home and get you warm before I take you right here, right now, little one.” I managed to say. I wanted her as much as Duke did.
“Now who’s acting like a horny old dog?” Duke snickered at me.
We zipped back on the snowmobile and my mind was racing. She was a golden wolf with elemental power. Has this ever happened before? A golden wolf is the strongest of our kind. What was it that we learned about them in school? I struggled to remember. I couldn’t believe she was my mate!!
We came to a stop at the front of the castle. “Is it okay with you if we show my father and Payton, I think explaining it might be difficult for them to understand. My father will have more knowledge than I do, and we will want to consider all of this before anyone see’s Lia.”
“Okay.” She responded.
I mind linked my father and Payton to meet me in the library. It should be empty this late in the evening and we will have plenty of space for Lucy to shift. I also want to look at that book she had in the library yesterday on golden wolves. We made our way to the library; my father and Payton were already there. I turned and locked the door, then I pulled the shades closed on the windows.
“What’s going on son?” My father asked.
“There’s something you need to see, please turn around.” I told him and they both gave us questioning looks as they turned around.
“You ready to do it again?” I asked Lucy and she nodded.
A minute later Duke was howling in my head and full of pride gazing at his magnificent mate. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She lifted her head up and looked at me, I bent down and kissed the top of her head.
“You can turn around now.” I told my father and Payton. Both of their eyes practically jumped out of their heads.
“OH. MY. GODDESS.” Was all Payton was able to say as her mouth hung open.
“Is she what I think she is?” My father asked.
They continued to stare completely astonished. My father reached his hand out wanting to touch her. “Lucy, may I?” he asked.
She nodded her head yes. Duke didn’t like the idea of anyone touching our mate and I had to calm him. My father ran his hand over the top of her head. “Amazing!” He managed to utter lost in thoughts.
They turned around and Lucy shifted back. When she was dressed, we sat down in the armchairs. I picked up the book that Lucy had yesterday and turned to the page about golden wolves.
I read out loud, “The golden wolf is the rarest werewolf of all, born once every century. The golden wolf possesses great strength, speed and agility beyond any other wolf. Legend says that the golden wolf is a descendant of the God Apollo and his mortal lover Cyrene, who was a strong and beautiful huntress. Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto. His mother Leto, had the ability to turn herself into a she wolf.”
We sat quiet for a long moment before my father spoke to Lucy. “We know your mother was a descendant of the Moon Goddess, Selene, and possessed the gift of elemental fire which she passed to you.” He paused for another moment. “Your father was unusually strong and fast, he could have easily challenged any Alpha and would have won. He wasn’t a golden wolf, he was a dark charcoal gray color. It took nearly a dozen rogues to bring him down that day. I believe he was a descendant from Apollo, and you are the golden wolf of the century.”
“And to think, I always believed the golden wolf was just a children’s story.” Payton said in astonishment.
