13 - Remember Me
I was walking back to my desk from the copier room in the office the next morning when I saw it.
A familiar-looking man was hanging out by the cubicles, chatting with some of the women. He was in that same suit and tie he’d worn to my mom and dad’s, and he’d carefully combed back his dark, unruly hair. Aside from his two-colored eyes, he could almost pass for normal. And by normal, I meant strikingly handsome, in a dark, wolfish sort of way.
I walked up, clearing my throat loudly. “Hello,” I greeted stiffly, and Levi smirked at me. “Do you work here?”
“Ladies?” He nodded at the group. A second later, they all burst into laughter.
“You’re hilarious, Olivia!” they crowed at me.
“Don’t you remember your own co-worker??”
“Levi’s been here for ages!”
Great. More dumb mind control shit. Why, though?? What was the purpose of this? Did he really enjoy driving me up the wall this way?
I rolled my eyes at my co-workers, not bothering to try and explain. I grabbed Levi’s arm, dragging him off into one of the meeting rooms. “This is getting old, Levi. First, Xan shows up at my apartment and now, this??”
The cheeky glint disappeared from Levi’s eyes in an instant. “Xan was at your place?? Why? What did he want?”
“Nothing.”
“He didn’t touch you, did he?” he asked, frowning.
“No. He’s only got eyes for *you*,” I reminded him dryly.
“Damn him.”
“Aww, what’s the matter? He has a crush on you.”
“Yeah, it’s never going to happen.”
“Sure, whatever. Now, can you quit flirting with my co-workers and get out of here?” I started to leave, but he was quick to block my way.
“What’s the matter, Olivia? Jealous, are we?”
“Are you kidding me?”
Levi sat down in a chair, looking up at me. Grasping the edge of my dress, he pulled me towards him. “W-what are you doing??” I demanded.
“It’s OK. It’s not like anyone can see us.”
“But someone could walk in at any minute!”
“That’s part of the fun, isn’t it?”
“Stop this,” I protested, pushing against his shoulders. “I’m not responsible for you anymore.”
“You’re right. But maybe I’m the one who feels responsible for you.”
“Excuse me??”
“I mean, honestly, Olivia. What would you do without me? You were a virgin until I came along.”
“So what? I’m a woman, OK? I can have sex any time I want.”
“And I’m an incubus. The same applies.” A hungry look entered his eye, right before he forced my skirt up.
“L-Levi, I can’t,” I gasped, turning away from him. I tried once again to leave, but he got up, wrapping both arms around my waist from behind.
“Don’t you want my help?” he whispered in my ear.
“Your *help*? Is that what you call it??”
He chuckled before turning me around. Cupping my cheeks, he leaned over and kissed me deeply, our tongues dancing together. I hated to admit that I didn’t want to pull away. When I was with Levi, all my senses came awake. Had I been craving his attention all this time?
A moment later, I found myself face-down on the conference table as Levi entered me furiously from behind. He gripped the back of my neck with one hand, keeping me still as he thrusted. I wanted badly to moan out loud but I knew I couldn’t. I covered my mouth with my hand, humming low in my throat instead.
Even after Levi was done, he stayed inside me, seeming not to want to let me go. I waited until he pulled out carefully, finally satisfied.
I got up shakily without a word, inching my skirt back down over my thighs. The papers I’d been holding were strewn all over the floor. I knelt down to pick them up.
Levi didn’t bother to help, simply peering down at me as he did up his pants. Which was fine by me. I was having difficulty making eye contact with him right now. I was embarrassed at myself for letting him have his way with me...and enjoying every minute of it.
“Alright, Olivia,” he finally spoke after the long silence between us. “Since you were a good girl, I’m going to help you, as promised.”
I shot him a quick, cold glance before getting up and making my way out the door. Levi came after me, clutching my shoulder to get my attention. “You’re going the wrong way.”
“No, I’m not. My desk is over there.”
“But HR is over here.”
“Huh??” I went, confused. I was in a daze as he led me over to the office belonging to Mrs Ramirez, the HR manager.
My heart began to pound, even louder and harder than when I’d been in that conference room, fearing that Levi and I would be caught in the act.
I had this awful sense that my dirty little secret was about to be exposed for all the world to see. With Levi, I never really did know what to expect.
Levi did a knock, and a moment later, we heard Mrs Ramirez's voice say, “Come in.”
Levi opened the door, yanking a reluctant me inside with him.
“Ah, hello, Olivia and - ” She squinted up at Levi from her chair. “Who are you?”
Levi let go of me, going over and standing over the woman in an intimidating pose. “We’re here for information. Specifically, the address of her former manager. Noah Paul.”
“What?!” I hurried over, grabbing Levi’s sleeve. “What do you think you’re doing??” I hissed.
“A favor to you.”
“You’re going to get me in trouble.”
“Relax.”
Mrs Ramirez wheeled her chair off to the side, picking up her phone and dialing. “I’m calling security.”
Levi marched over, grabbing the phone and slamming it back down. Mrs Ramirez drew back, fear crossing her face as she stared up at him.
“Noah Paul,” Levi repeated purposefully, staring down at her. “We want his details. Now.”
*I’m dead,* I thought to myself. *I’m going to get fired right now, for sure. Hello, unemployment.*
I held my breath, waiting for Mrs Ramirez to leap up and start yelling at us to get out. But in the end, she did no such thing.
Instead, she got up, smoothed down her skirt and smiled at Levi. “Right away.”
She moved to the filing cabinets at the other end of her office, opening a drawer and rummaging through the contents. My eyes widened in disbelief.
OK, I had to admit, I was impressed. Not to mention relieved.
Levi leaned against her desk, glancing over his shoulder at me. “Sometimes, they need a bit more work.”
“That was too close.”
“It’s OK. We’re back on track.”
“Back on track for what??”
“Haven’t you guessed?”
“Oh my God. You’re going to kill Noah.”
“Ugh, no, Olivia,” he went, rolling his eyes. “You always think the worst of me, you know that?”
“Can you blame me? You’re a demon.”
“Right. Fair point.”
“Here you go,” Mrs Ramirez said brightly, turning around and handing the file out to Levi.
Levi wouldn’t take it, though, cocking his head over at me. Mrs Ramirez trotted over, planting the file in my hands. The smile on her face was so wide, I thought her face might crack.
“Is she going to stay like this forever?” I asked Levi. “I mean, she was always a bitch, but this is creeping me out.”
“No, it’ll wear off eventually. Come on. I think we’re done here.”
Levi and I filed out of there, hovering in the hallway.
“Now, what?” I asked, staring at the file in my hands.
“That’s up to you, Olivia. In this world, you have to go after what you want. If that is really what you want.”
“Wait a second. You did this...to help me?” I did a hollow laugh at how insane that sounded. “This is a prank, right?”
“That’s the file, Olivia. The file that will lead you to your boss.”
“I know what it is. What I don’t understand is why you did this.”
He shrugged, not meeting my eye. “I guess I was feeling generous.”
“I do not understand you, Levi.”
“Believe me...I don’t understand myself either,” he said quietly.
I stared at him, feeling utterly confused. I was trying to think of what to say when I heard giggling behind me.
I turned to look, noticing Alison and some of the other women watching us. Well, Levi, mostly. “Geez. Don’t they have anything better to do?” I muttered.
“Says the girl who just let herself be fucked at work a little while ago,” Levi quipped.
“*You* did that to me.”
“And you wanted it.”
My face went red and hot at that. But before I could retort, Levi said, “Anyway, I suppose I’ve caused you enough grief for one day.”
“Thank God.”
“But before I leave you…” In full view of the women, he grabbed me, planting a long, searing kiss on my lips. As if that wasn’t enough, he made sure to squeeze my ass while he was at it.
“Levi!” I gasped, shoving him away from me.
He laughed, wiping lipstick off his mouth. “This is it, Olivia. If you need me, come find me.”
“Come find you?? Why would I want to find you? All I want is to get rid of you.”
“Just remember the first time we met,” he said softly. He gazed at me for a long moment before turning away, disappearing into an elevator with a bunch of other people.
Even after the doors had shut and he was gone, I found myself still standing there.
*Why was he acting so weird? What was he trying to tell me?*
