Chapter Six

**Genevieve**

Greyson Maddox just dropped me off at my door and offered me 1.5 Million dollars to the playhouse with him and keep my mouth shut, I replay the words repeatedly.

As soon as I get into the apartment, I kick my shoes off and head to the kitchen to get a drink, he was so expertly tactful simply stated what he wants but that only made me hate him more.

I sip my drink while leaning on the counter, to my disgust I’m considering it 1.5 million would change my life and keep my brother away from. I head to my room ready to try and tackle making this dress off and jump in a hot shower.

I’m mulling his words over and over how could he be so nonchalant about this, my life for an entire you would be consumed by that ass hat but the money at the end would be worth it.

Twenty minutes later the water still rushing over my body I’ve convinced myself that he’s crazy and id be crazier to consider his offer, lost in thought when I hear the door go.

Wrapping my towel around my body I head out of my room.

"Alex is that you?"

I can hear him shuffling around as I walk along the corridor and the sight before me makes my jaw drop in both anger and sadness. Alex is stood jacket on the floor and lips locked with Mia who sees me and pulls away smirking at me.

Alex's head snaps around to meet mine and I don’t know if I should act angry like a girlfriend or be angry as his friend like I am.

He turns to face me, eyes wide with shock. Putting on my best how could you voice I lock eyes with him.

"Alex how could you "

He seems shocked for a second and then turns to Mia and before meeting my gaze again.

"Gen, I can explain”.
He speaks like he is asking me a question before Mia chimes in.

"I told you earlier tonight that Alex would come back to me just turns out it was quicker than we both thought”.

He heads snaps towards her.
"You spoke to Gen tonight?"

She seems to realise her mistake and pushes her body onto him, but he steps away.

"Mia you told me you saw Gen get in the car with Greyson Maddox looking cosy when after I called her and now, you’re telling me the two of you spoke”.

Sensing how she had managed to get here I jump back into the conversation.

"I did get in the car with Greyson I spilt my drink over both of us and he offered me a lift home. Not wanting to be rude to Alex boss I accepted "

She tries to look into Alex's eyes.

"Alex please you know that what you and I had was real how could you want her over me, she trashes, and she sponges of you “

I scoff in disgust and pull him closer to me, the smell of alcohol radiating offs him.

"The difference between you and I Mia is that I would never hurt Alex the way you did. You slept with multiple people while you were engaged to him and even stooped so low as to sleep with his friends you are not worthy to even say his name out loud. You should just leave”.

"Alex you can’t let her talk to me like that”.

He snakes his arm around me.
"She can talk to you however she wants at least with Gen I get the truth. Just leave Mia”.

With that, he heads in the direction of his bedroom. Mia stands their mouth open a little.

"I pretty sure Alex told you to leave”.

She turns around and heads to the door.

"Gen you'll see me again and Alex won’t push me away next time”.

She leaves the apartment slamming the door behind her and I head to Alex room furious that he would have even gone near her again when I step inside arm still clutching my towel the smell of vomit overtakes my senses, he’s laid out on the bed head hanging slightly over the side and empty bin sat next to a pile of vomit.

I grab some shorts and a top from his draws quickly changing before heading to the kitchen to grab some cleaning products preparing myself to clean up someone else's vomit.

An hour later the floor is clean Alex is changed into clothes that don’t smell like sick and he’s sleeping in my bed a large bowl beside him, I sit on the bed next to him waiting to be sure he’s not going to be sick anymore before heading into the front room to sleep on the sofa.

I pull the large fluffy blanket over myself and snuggle down, thanking the heavens that Alex purchased a large corner sofa so sleeping on it isn’t the worst thing in the world. As I drift off memories of the night was over me the bar, pretending to be Alex girlfriend, seeing my brother and Greyson’s proposition.

I try to sleep but my thoughts keep flashing back to Greyson, If I were to accept his offer, I would be able to pay lawyers to fight my brother for what’s rightfully mine. I eventually drift off to the sound of my audiobook the gripping Greyson’s card in my hand.

I’m woken by the smell off coffee and a light pat on the shoulder.
"Hey Gen, wake up”.

I open my eyes, my back feeling stiff from the angle that I slept at. Sitting up I take the coffee from him.

"So, Alex, you have a good night?"

"Don’t start Gen”.

"Don’t start what? I’m asking if you had a good night that’s all”.

"No, you’re not you are asking you to try to find out what happened to me after you left, the thing is I would much rather know what happened to you”.

A smirk crosses his face as he holds up Greyson’s card. I feel my cheeks blush I scramble to think about what to say.

"He offered me a job, working as his erm PA”.

"Weird he has a PA Vicky; I didn’t think she was leaving”.

"Well, he didn’t say his work PA it was more like a personal PA, Like life admin”.

I can tell he does not believe me, so I change the subject.

"What about you anyway, how on earth did you end up with Mia again? "

He shrugs.

"I was a little drunk and she was familiar, also my date ran off in a car with my boss”.

My face reddens as he studies it for a reaction,

"It was innocent honestly and the job he offered me; it pays a lot of money. The thing is I would require moving in with him I would be at his beck and call and it is only for one year”.

It feels weird hiding the whole truth from Alex about this, but I cannot tell him what the actual job is.

"Is it enough money for you to set yourself up for a while?"

"Yes, but are you so sick of me already that you want me out”.

I give him a playful nudge on the arm.

"So are you going to take the job”.

"Well, I’m not sure, I’m going to call him today and try too and get a few more details”.

After a while Alex seems content that the job offer was genuine, he got ready and left for the office not before reminding me to go back out today and search for a job, leaving me alone to ponder Greyson's offer while getting ready for a full day of job hunting and rejections.

Three hours pass, it is raining I am miserable and set on a bench in Central park wondering how the hell I got to this point in my life, I’m not unwilling to work hard but this is on another level every place I gave my resume to today was disinterested, at one point I saw the manager put it in the bin as I left the ultimate slap in the face at some point something has to give.

Rummaging through my bag for the umbrella I could have sworn I packed I come across Greyson's card, swallowing my pride I type the number into my phone and wait for him up.

"This is Greyson Maddox office, Vicky speaking how can I assist you”.

Wow, that is a mouthful, I wonder if she has to say that every time pulling away from my thoughts I speak.

"Hello Vicky, my names Genevieve Hudson I was wondering if Mr Maddox was available”.

I hear her snort.

"Mr Maddox doesn’t usually take calls at work from his ... erm, women. I shall let him know you called but I’m sure he will contact you again if he wishes to see you”.

Her tone is suddenly cold and harsh, but I am also taken aback by her words. This must be a regular thing for him, women calling him after he loves them and leaves them as it were. Is this someone I want to enter a weird job offer with.

I am about to respond when I hear Vicky talking to someone, I hear my name being mentioned a few more words are exchanged before she comes back on the line.

"Miss Hudson, I am so sorry about before Mr Maddox has just told me he was waiting for your call about a job offer. I'll patch you through now”.

He voice is still cold, but she sounds as though she is on the verge of tears now. Before I can respond and say thank you the line connects to another voice.

"Genevieve what changed your mind, my good looks or the offer of 1.5 million? "

I hold my breath his words annoying me to the core, so I snap back at him.

"Who said I have changed my mind, and its Miss Hudson to you? "

Why did I have to call this guy I do not even like him he starts and internal rage in me that I can’t control it’s like everything he does annoys me. He is so arrogant.

"You know what perhaps I’ve made a mistake in calling you, Sorry to interrupt your day Mr Maddox”.

With that, I put the phones down getting off the bench and starting the walk home.

My phone vibrates in my pocket several more times as I walk but I ignore it, the number is blocked, and I can only assume it is him trying to call me back.

I Walk past the Maddox building this time on the other side and see another small looking coffee shop; I think about a warm drink and my freezing hands and head towards it the rain still beating down. As I draw closer, I realise it is not a coffee shop it’s a tearoom which confirms my choice to stop even more.

I head to the counter but the woman serving sees my wet coat and ushers me to sit telling me she will be over to take my order shortly and I should get warm, instantly I am in love with this place the cosiness of it and all the jars of loose tea leaves behind the counter in jars lining the wall a wave of relaxation hits me in a way that I’ve not felt for a long time.

The small woman behind the counter comes to take me order and we chat about her shop, she explains to me how she manages to get such a good piece of real-estate, slowly some more of the business folk in the area are opting for natural teas for their early morning and mid-day pick me ups instead of coffee. I ask her to make me whatever her favourite is she comes back a short while later and hands me a large mug of blood orange and ginger tea with a hint of vanilla, it smells divine we talk a little more before she heads back to the counter.

I relax further into my seat taking a sip of the tea that warms me from the inside before pulling out my phone once more to see 6 missed calls. Damn this guy is persistent locking the phone and placing it on the table a shadow suddenly crosses me.

"You know its rude to not answer the phone when someone calls”.
The voice of Greyson Maddox bursts my perfect warm bubble.
