Chapter 5
Justin’s POV
Destruction always seemed to follow rouges where ever they go, and this time they came here. ‘ALPHA Rouges have crossed the border and are heading straight for the pack house!’ Jumping up from my desk I leapt out the window, landing in wolf form I headed towards the field that sits in between the house and the forest. ‘ALL WARRIORS REPORT IMMEDIETLY TO THE TRAINING FIELDS, ROUGES ARE ATTACKING.’ I turned and waited, any moment now they would be breaking through the forest and I needed to be ready. As if on cue multiple wolves came sprinting out of the woods and headed straight in my direction. ‘Hurry, we must protect the pack.’ Lunging forward I sunk my teeth into a rouge as he tried to dodge me and run past. Throwing him to the ground I looked for my next target. ‘Dillion help the women and children to the safe house then contact Alpha Daemon.’ ‘Yes Alpha.’ Moving through the rouges I took down one after another before getting tackled by a larger wolf. Its mouth was dripping with blood and saliva, gross. Kicking my back legs I threw him off me and jumped back, we slowly started circling one another before he tried to make a move. Dodging his attack barely I swiftly kicked my hind legs towards him and smile when a satisfying crack was heard. Keeping my distance I locked my eyes on him and watched with every muscle in my body ready. Smirking the wolf knelt his head then took off to the left.
‘Fuck I can’t loose him.’ Shooting off after him I tried to keep him in sight but slowly lost him in the crowd. ‘Dammit. We need to find that wolf.’ Rhydian agreed and tried to push more power to me but it was no use he had disappeared in the fight. Suddenly I stopped in my tracks, roses? ‘That smells like Melanie! Where is she? Is she here?’ Rhydian wouldn’t stop asking question after question, ‘Rhydian slow down, I don’t think Melanie is here, it must have just been a rouge or something.’ Shaking it off I turned ready to dive back in when I saw a small female running from the safe house. ‘Who is that and why are they not staying in the safe house?’ Pushing forward I noticed it was Lilac, what the fuck is she doing? Behind her I caught a glimpse of the wolf I was fighting previously, he was slowly sneaking up to her with three other rouges and Lilac had no idea. ‘LILAC! RUN!’ I tried shouting through the mind link but it was no use she didn’t hear me and was still unaware of the wolves right there. Pushing faster I dodged every attack on my way, I need to get to her. Melanie wouldn’t ever come back if she knew her best friend had died. Right as I broke out of the rest of the fight the wolves started lunging towards Lilac. ‘NO!’ Next minute the wolf is in the air ripped to pieces as an ear piercing scream was heard across thew whole field. Whimpering I shifted forms and covered my ears, I watched in horror as all the rouges that had been attacking Lilac, now being held in the air by roots and trees. The scream had ended and I fell back onto my butt, looking towards where I thought the scream emitted from I saw a white haired girl backing away and running. Turing towards the rest of the field my eyes widened as I saw all the carnage. Bodies torn to shreds now dangled above everyone, not one rouge was left untouched. ‘Who was that girl?’ Rhydian huffed in response and wandered to the back of my mind. Weird. Shaking my head I swiped a pair of short from one of the pack members and headed to greet Alpha Daemon.
“Thank you again for coming to help, I have no idea why they decided to attack.” Daemon agreed and gripped my hand, a littler harder than usual. “I do have one question to ask you.” Daemon made eye contact and nodded. “Do you by chance have anyone in your pack with white hair?” The girl at the top of the hill kept flashing in my head over and over. “I have never seen anyone like that before, and she is the one who saved us. I just want to thank her.” Anger flashed through his eyes before settling, “Sorry, I don’t have anyone with white hair. Are you sure they aren’t from your pack?” Chuckling I shook my head, “No I would surely remember if they had pure white hair.” Smiling Alpha Daemon called his pack back and headed off the territory, turning towards my men I told them to either go to the healer or go to dinner. Following I headed into the kitchen to see what wonderful meal was prepared for us today. “Mmmmm, smells like meatloaf. My favorite.” Giggling my mom moved and kissed my cheek. “After an awful attack I thought you would love some.” Smashing my lips against her cheek I thanked her and grabbed a giant plate full.
After dinner I flopped into the chair in my office. Pulling out the cellphone that’s only ever leaves with sadness, I dialed the only number I have saved on it. Two rings. “Hi this is Melanie’s phone, sorry I cannot come to the phone right now. Leave me a message and I will call you right back!” Lies, she has never once called me back and I have left over thirty two messages.
*BEEP*
“Melanie I swear I smelled you today on the field. Roses. Oh god do I miss that smell. There are so many things I want to say but nothing will change your mind. I have finally learned that. So for now, I am so sorry. Please forgive me.”

*Riiiiinnnnngggg*
“Hi this is Melanie’s phone, sorry I cannot come to the phone rig-“ Snapping the phone shut I threw it across the room in anger. ‘Where the hell is she?!’ Rhydian paced back and forth in my head, ‘You are the one who pushed her away in the first place.’ Snarling at him I closed the link and fell back into my chair. “Where are you Melanie?”
6 Months later
“Good now make sure while sparring you are going for kill shots without hurting your partner.” Standing at the front I watched over as the whole pack trained. Women included, I decided that if we ever get attacked again we need all the help we can get. Everyone needs to be able to protect themselves. “Dillion! Come here and watch them I need to make a call.” “Yes, Alpha.” Dillion looked at me with sadness in his eyes before replacing me and I walked into the house for privacy.
*Ring Ring Click*
I stopped, there was no voicemail. Did.. Did she actually answer? “Melanie?” Silence. Was I imagining this? “Melanie? Are you there?” I started pacing in the kitchen praying she would speak, or make any sort of noise. “Please. I am begging you just say something, anything.” Nothing, sighing I lowered the phone. She was torturing me, and I deserved it.
“Justin.” Whipping the phone back to my ear I stopped moving and held my breath. “What the fuck do you want?” Hatred dripped off every word. “I-I want to know your safe, if you are okay. That nothing terrible happened to you.” Words started spilling out of my mouth, “I want to apologize I want to tell you I fucked up, that I miss you. I missed your voice.” I heard a sharp inhale, and low mumbling. “Justin. You have no right to ask about me. You do need to apologize but I don’t even want to hear that right now. I want to be left alone, you fucked up. You’re right and its going to take a shit ton for me to even hear your voice again.” It sounded like she was about to hang up and blurted out something I probably shouldn’t have. “Lilac’s sick! She’s dying.”
