CHAPTER 26: THE LAST FEW DAYS WITH YOU
"I know no matter how many times I apologize, it's not that easy to forgive me. I only showed up now because I'm still embarrassed to face you," he told her shyly.
They were inside their house and sat facing each other while her mother let them talk first so she left them alone.
"I also confronted Clayton about you and your pregnancy. I didn't know that he's capable again to..." he couldn't continue what he was going to say but she knew what he was referring to.
Red didn't expect his brother could impregnate someone after he accidentally heard about Clayton's problem from the doctor.
"It's okay, Red. I understand what you did. You've done more good things to me so I'm willing to forgive you. You're a good person. Let's just forget about what happened," she said with a smile.
She chose to forgive him because she didn't want to leave without them even getting along well again.
"Thank you, Sam. You just don't know how happy I am for your forgiveness," he said cheerfully.
She hugged him. She was sad to think that this would be their last time together.
Their flight to Davao would be two days from now.
Of course, she wouldn't let Red know that.
He let go of her hug while still smiling.
"I'm still happy that you'll be part of our family forever. I'm excited to see my nephew," Red was truly happy and it was evident on his face.
She avoided the sad expression on her face because Red might wonder. She smiled even though she didn't say anything.
"You didn't even mention that Clay and you were getting along. I was really wondering when he kept asking me about you when I was in the States. He even asked me if I truly love you. Of course, I said yes because I really love you. I love you as a friend or family member. I already adored you since the beginning so I didn't hesitate to propose to you regardless of my gender. I'm happy for you and Clayton, "he said sincerely.
She really wanted to say goodbye to him properly. She didn't want to just disappear like a bubble but she had no other choice. It's better that Red doesn't know so that he doesn't have to lie to Clayton.
Red stared into her eyes.
"Do you love my brother?" he suddenly asked.
She was stunned by that question. She wanted to lie but she also wanted to be true to how she felt about Clayton. She finds it difficult to absorb it without anyone even knowing.
Then even if she tells Red her true feelings for Clayton now, there is nothing wrong with that because they won't be seeing each other anymore.
"I love your brother. I love Clayton," she said softly even though she wanted to shout it out.
At last! She already shared with someone the true content of her heart.
Red's smile widened even more.
"Now I know why Clayton's mind has always been flying since Faith and I came back. I'm so happy. You deserve each other," he said happily.
She went outside their house with him when he said goodbye already.
Clayton arrived just in time. His dark face approached them.
"She will be wearing my ring anytime soon so don't push your ring to her anymore. You can give it to someone else, Red!" Clayton immediately turned to Red when he was in front of them.
They were both surprised by Clayton's unexpected reaction.
"Whoa! Relax, Clayton! I'm not here to offer her marriage again," Red said jokingly raising both hands.
Clayton and she were not smiling.
"I'm leaving, Sam. My older brother has been really scary these past few days," Red said still laughing.
She just nodded at the man.
"I'll go ahead, bro. Please send me a wedding invitation. It looks like you're about to disown me as your brother," Red laughed softly before finally leaving.
She didn't see any happy reaction from Clayton.
"Why was he here? What was his purpose?" He still seems angry.
She looked down and just focused her gaze on her hands.
"He just apologized," she replied shortly.
She has heard nothing from him yet for a few seconds.
"Let's tell mom we'll look for wedding rings," he said afterward.
Mom? Did he already call her mother his mom?
Wedding ring?
Suddenly her mood seemed to panic. She didn't want to let him spend something for the wedding because she knew no wedding would take place.
"Clay, can we do it another day? I'm not feeling well," she lied.
He suddenly became worried.
"Then let's go to the hospital. Wait, is mom inside?" His face was in panic even his voice.
He looked cute though. Suddenly she felt sad again because she would never see him again and could never be with him again.
"What's wrong? How are you feeling now?" He touched her face when he saw her cry.
She cried right away. Spontaneously her arms wrapped around his neck. She gave him a tight hug. She knew she would never be able to do that again when they leave for Davao.
"Sam, I'm so worried now," he said but hugged her as well.
She was just crying and didn't say anything. His clothes were already wet with her tears but that didn't matter to him. He just let her cry and cry.
When she stopped crying, Clayton wiped the tears from her face with his fingers.
"Let's go to the hospital," he repeated when she already stopped crying.
She laughed softly at what he said.
"I'm okay. My mother said it's normal to be too emotional when you're pregnant," she only replied.
Even though Clayton's face wasn't convinced, he didn't do anything when she took him inside their house.
She wanted to make the most of the remaining days with him.
She had a hard time explaining to her mother why she would leave Clayton instead of marrying him. All she said was that her pregnancy was an accident and that the man was supposed to marry another woman.
She said she didn't want to force Clayton into a wedding just because of the child she was carrying. Her mother just hugged her when she said that, especially since her tears flowed when she talked to her. She supported her decision.
