Chapter Nine
He knew it.
She was completely and utterly insane.
She wasn’t human. What kind of crap was that? Did she truly believe that she was some sort of alien, that she wasn’t a part of this world? And the look on her face told him she was serious, that she really did believe what she was saying.
“Lunatic refers to people of sound minds. I thought we already went over this yesterday. I’m not mentally disabled according to your terms.”
“You say that, but do you have any idea how crazy that sounds? If you weren’t human then why would you so openly tell me that without hesitation? Wouldn’t that be some kind of secret?” He stresses, not comprehending why he was even entertaining this ridiculous notion in the first place.
Finally looking away from him she stares at the ground and becomes silent for a moment. “It never stated in the protocols that I couldn’t state what I was or wasn’t. But…”
She hesitates for the first time.
“But…?” He encourages wondering why he was interested in what she had to say at all.
“I’m not sure if it’s actually something I should have told you. My mission is to quickly obtain what I needed and get off this planet as soon as possible.” She shrugs, looking dead serious.
He slowly takes a step back from her. She was definitely crazy. There was no other explanation on the matter. Only crazy people, real crazy people, talked like this. Why she choose him to stalk out of billions of people on earth he’ll never know. But one thing was for sure and that was to get the hell away from this girl.
“I think it’s best we go our separate ways. It was nice meeting you and all, but I have somewhere I need to be, and I can’t waste time talking nonsense with you.” He goes to turn around but then stops.
It hadn’t occurred to him until right now that maybe she really was from a crazy house and instead of freaking out maybe he should help get her back where she needed to be. She was stalking him for whatever reason, but if this was really her mind it wasn’t safe for her to be walking around in that state. Sighing deeply he faces her again. She hadn’t moved one bit and kept looking at him as if waiting for something.
“What’s your name?” He asks hating the fact that he was to much of a nice person for his own good.
“I already stated my name.” She points out bluntly.
Rolling his eyes he takes a step toward her. “I meant your entire name. What’s your last name? It can’t just be Nasia.”
“I don’t have a last name. My kind doesn’t dwell on naming our offspring more than once.”
He was going to get nowhere with her.
“Okay.” He felt aspirated. “Where are you from, actually don’t answer that I’m sure you’ll say that you’re somewhere from outer space.”
She doesn’t say anything on that. “Correct me if I’m wrong.” He mumbles to himself.
“You’re not-”
“I wasn’t being serious.” He quickly cuts her off. “Where are you at least staying right now?”
“In the redwoods.”
He falters at her answer. “The redwoods? Like in the mountains, that’s three hours away from here?”
“By vehicle, yes I guess it would take that long.” She frowns thinking on it a little too hard for his comfort.
“How did you-do you have a car?” He was so confused.
“No, I tend to try to stay away from material equipment that causes pollution.”
Rubbing his eyes as a headache was starting to come along he gives her a false, tight, smile. “You know what, how about you just come with me for now. We’ll figure the rest out later. I’m running late as it is and I’m pretty sure I already missed my bus.”
“Where are we going?”
“To go visit someone I know. But we need to pick up the pace.”
He starts speed walking hoping the bus hadn’t arrived yet and that he could still make it. He was dreading on waiting another forty-five minutes for the next one to arrive if he didn’t. She picks up her pace asking,
“Why are we in a rush?”
“Because if we don’t hurry we’ll miss the bus and then we’ll have to wait for the next one. I already wasted enough time as it is.” He breathily says not looking back to see how far she was from him.
As soon as he turns the corner, and the main street was visible his heart rate picks up when he notices the bus was already there. Now full on running he cries out, “No, no, no! Hold up!”
But he was still to far away for anyone to hear and watches as the bus pulls away from the curb and drives down the road all before he reached the empty bench. Coming to a stop he waves his arms about looking devastated.
“Come on!” He plops on the hot bench and growls his frustration, throwing his head back to look up at the blue clear sky.
Nasia stands there watching him have a mini breakdown. “Another one will come by again.” She supplies unhelpfully.
“Yeah, another forty-five minutes. I would have been on time for this one though if someone hadn’t shown up unexpectedly spouting out crazy things to me to make me miss it.” He snaps irritably.
“You’re angry.” She points out the obvious.
Pulling his head forward to stare at her incredulously, he couldn’t help but be sarcastic in his answer. “Of course I am. I already have been procrastinating on visiting as it was, now it’s going to be another hour before I can get there.”
“Would it help if I got us there?” She takes a step closer, looking down at him as if his tone didn’t bother her in the least.
What was up with this girl?
“And how are you going to get us there? You don’t even know where we’re going.”
Reaching out a hand to him she simply says, “Teleporting of course.”
That’s it. That was the last straw for Ry as he snaps up into a standing position and starts walking back to his house. “I can’t. I tried and thought I could be helpful in this, but that…that’s overkill lady.”
She follows him without hesitation. “I don’t understand what the problem is. I could get us there within moments if you just tell me exactly where we’re going.”
“Seriously?! How could you possibly keep going like this?! You’re not some celestial being from another world or universe or whatever okay! You don’t have special abilities that could teleport us to the hospital within seconds, and you’re human!”
He snapped.
He finally snapped.
And as soon as he did he felt horrible mixed with immense guilt at his behavior. Breathing heavily with the exertion of yelling he closes his eyes and took a deep breath to catch his composure.
“Look I’m sorry. I don’t mean to yell at you. But no one is that delusional.”
Throughout the entire outburst she just stood there listening, watching his every move and yet none of it still seemed to have bothered her in the slightest. Reaching out her hand again she softly asks,
“You’re going to the hospital. Who are you visiting?”
Like what he just spouted out didn’t make a single difference whatsoever. Giving up on trying to make her understand he finally gives in to her twisted games. Shoulders deflating he mumbles,
“A young boy named Kevin, Keven Michels.”
A small smile spreads on her face as she whispers, “Take my hand Ry and we’ll go visit this young boy named Kevin, Kevin Michels.”
He couldn’t help but shake his head at her repeating his exact words. Feeling dissolute in giving in he ungracefully slaps his hand into hers not sure on what to do about her anymore.
“You might want to close your eyes. It’s going to be uncomfortable your first time.”
He frowns. “What do you mean-”
Suddenly everything starts swirling around him, causing immense tightness in his chest and his gut, his eyes blurred forcing him to shut them as his equilibrium goes off the scales. A sudden weightless falls from his feet as if he was floating into air and then a solid force jars him to fall to his knees.
A wave of nausea overwhelms him so much that instant vomit rolls in his throat and it extracts all over the ground in front of him. Breathing hard, his entire body felt like it just went through a meat grinder and every muscle was wound tight. He was on his hands and knees staring down at grass that wasn’t there before.
White shoes steps in his vision right before his puke that was now sinking into the ground. He doesn’t look up as she calmly asks,
“Are you okay? The first time is always the worst. You’ll get used to it eventually. Trust me it gets better after a few more times.”
A few more…holy shit. He couldn’t help thinking as he finally looks up at her. His mind couldn’t comprehend at all what the hell just happened right now. All he knew was this girl, whoever the hell she was, just transported them as he stared at the hospital behind her.
