Chapter 20 - Feeding the Flames

Eloise’s POV



Ever since I first saw the prophecy's vision from the ancient mirror, I had nightmares almost every night. The bodies that littered the floor and the blood drained from their faces always terrified me.



But when I got married to the man who was destined to kill me and everyone I loved, the nightmares suddenly stopped. Maybe it had something to do with Xavier’s body always being so warm throughout the night. That always managed to calm me down.



But for some reason, I wasn't able to sleep so peacefully tonight. I stayed in the bedroom all day so it’s not like anything happened.



Yet, I tossed and turned restlessly, despite the warmth from Xavier's body usually being enough to calm me down.



My eyes were still closed as if I were asleep. While I was in an exhausted state, I couldn’t mistake the feeling of someone who was touching me. At first, the hand rested on my shoulder and massaged it softly.



I thought it was Nora.



Slowly, the surprisingly gentle touch began to caress my neck. I could feel goosebumps pop up all over my body.



It's so kind of Nora to give me a massage. My neck has been killing me these past few nights… I thought to myself.



But then, the hand began to rub at my chest. I thought it was odd but I thought nothing of it and until the hand cupped my breasts.



Okay, this definitely isn't Nora.

I wonder if he could feel the heat between my legs, too…



I looked back into his golden eyes and saw a hint of desire glimmer in them.



“I want you, Eloise.”



A light pink blushed my cheeks as nervousness crept up on me. I knew that marrying Xavier meant I was going to have to eventually perform marital duties with him. But I had no experience with men…

Xavier gripped my thigh tightly and pulled me close to him. He looked down at my body and then up at me again, an anxious look was painted on his face.



My eyes followed his and I saw the red marks that he left on my thighs and chest.



To ease the tension that grew between us, I placed my hand gently on Xavier's neck. Our eyes met for another moment and I smiled before I buried my face into his shoulder.

After hearing my willingness to cooperate, Xavier’s body shook with excitement. He placed a kiss on my forehead and wrapped his arm around my waist.



“I’ll do my best… God, I hope you’re ready for me.”



Slowly, Xavier leaned the lower half of his body in between my thighs. He moved his hand to the back of my head, softly grabbing a handful of my soft, silver hair.

Xavier couldn't even utter a single word. All he could do was stare at me in shock.

"You—" Before Xavier could get a word in, a quick knock came at the door.



"Lord Xavier!" It was Adrian. "It is of the utmost importance that you come to your study. A letter from one of your generals came in and you need to see it now!"



I covered my naked body with the covers and looked at Xavier with an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry, my Lord. But please, get dressed. I don't want to keep you from your duties."



Xavier looked back at me with an expression I couldn't even identify. Shock? Anger? Disappointment?



I turned my head away from Xavier as he exited the room and slammed the door behind him.
