Chapter 94

“Who wasn’t supposed to hurt me?” Anastasia huffed and rolled her eyes, her initial fear starting to wear off slowly as it appeared that while Harvey had played a part in whatever this was, he probably wouldn’t hurt her. Or at least she hoped so.

“Why don’t you ask me something that I can actually answer?”

“Like what?”

Instead of answering her question, Harvey merely laughed in response before his eyes travelled down to glance at the shackles around her ankles.

“Are they too tight?”

“What? These old things?” She snorted and rolled her eyes even though she knew that probably wasn’t the best thing to do or behave like when she was clearly the one with the lower hand in the situation. When Harvey merely frowned in response, Anastasia couldn’t help herself as she reached down to shake the chains in his face before abruptly dropping it, giving him just enough time to move his hand away before it landed on him.

“I’m guessing you don’t appreciate being tied up?”

“Well, not shit.” She replied dryly. “Why can’t you just take them off? It’s not like I’m going to be able to go anywhere since you’ve got me locked away in the dark.”

“Still scared of the dark?” He teased with a cheeky grin on his face, almost as if she hadn’t been kidnapped and imprisoned against her will.

“Only when I’m chained up.” Anastasia all but spat at him.

“Chains aren’t your kink?”

Refusing to bait him any further, Anastasia huffed and forced herself to look away, unable to stomach the disgusting sight of him any further, still reeling from the fact that somehow and for some strange reason, Harvey was a part of whatever this operation was.

When she refused to answer him, his smile dimmed and continued to do so until his lips were stretched into a thin line; still staring at her in silent study.

“How are you doing?”

Anastasia snorted but bit her tongue, not trusting herself to say something that wouldn’t set him off, especially in the snarky mood that she was in. If she indulged herself and voiced aloud all the thoughts that were currently running through her mind, she was sure to land herself in even more trouble than she was already in.

“I know it hasn’t been long since you gave birth. About four weeks, right?” Harvey curiously, making an effort to ask how she was doing despite the circumstances.

A puzzle expression washed over her face as she blinked back at him, her mind perplexed as to where he was trying to go with things. When he continued to stare back at her, she nodded her head warily.

“When was your last doctor’s appointment?” He continued despite the strange look on her face.

“A few days ago.” She murmured quietly, her mind still at a loss of why he was asking such questions, especially considering the less than pleasant circumstances that she had somehow awoken to.

“And he said everything is normal?”

Again, she only nodded her head.

“Do you know when it’ll be safe for you to start trying for a second baby?”

“What?” Anastasia exclaimed loudly with loud, beady eyes, unable to comprehend what he had just asked or even why. “What’s wrong with you, Harvey? What am I doing here? What are you doing here? And why are you asking such weird questions?”

Not at all surprised, Harvey expertly dodged her question again and instead, he chose to continue forth with his very random questionnaire.

“What about your postpartum period? Are you finished with that yet?”

This time, Anastasia could barely believe her ears. While she was never one to shy away from such topics, especially a period was completely natural, but being asked this question completely out of the blue had thrown her off guard; not at all expecting to hear it come out of Harvey’s mouth both under the circumstances and because she didn’t know him like that. And at this rate, she didn’t wish to know him like that either.

Instead of answering, her lips tugged down into a deeper scowl and turned her head to look away from him.

Sensing that his presence was less than appreciated and they wouldn’t be making much progress today, not while she was in this delirious state that wanted absolutely nothing to do with him, Harvey rose to his feet and dusted his jeans, not willing to waste any more of his time.

“You can scream as loud as you want Ana but guess what, no one is going to hear you and your beloved mate isn’t going to save because you know what?” Harvey chuckled tastelessly as he spared her a brief glance from over his shoulder. “He’s the one that’s behind this whole thing.”

And with that, he closed the door behind him, once again leaving her in the dark and just as he promised, no one came for her; not when she screamed until her voice cracked and her chest hurt, not when she had tugged on the chains until her ankles started bruising and the skin around her wrists broke and dribbled with blood. And certainly not when she had begun to lose all hope and cried herself to sleep.

No one heard her and no one came to her rescue.

Especially not her mate.
