CHAPTER 47

DOMINIC POV.
I watched Mia depart, her slender form disappearing into the corridor. My gaze lingered on the empty space, my mind processing our conversation. The guard that was stationed outside popped his head into the office. “Will there be anything else, Alpha?” He asked. I shook my head as I dismissed him with a wave of my hand. The guard swiftly retreated, closing the door to the office.
With quick movements, I opened my desk drawer and retrieved a small recorder. A victorious smile graced my lips as my fingers glided over the buttons and I pressed the stop button to cease recording. I was glad that I managed to set this up when I sat at my desk. I was going to make sure that I knew exactly what went on in here. My fingers navigated the device with precision, and rewinded the recording before I pressed play.
“Yes, Dominic saved me at the hunt that night. If it weren’t for him then I would probably not be standing here today.” Mia’s voice said from the little device in my hands. There was a second hesitation before her father’s voice spoke from the device.
"I understand but Mia, if you want to come home, we can leave right now. You don't have to stay here." I held my breath as the seconds ticked by before Mia answered. Was she considering her father’s offer? I wondered before my attention got caught by her voice again when she finally spoke. "Alpha… Dad.” She spoke, correcting herself. “I think I'll stay." She said in a firm voice and I found myself smirking at the recorder. "I want to stay with Dominic.” She continued to reply to her father and I felt a chill run through my body. “He has taken care and protected me this far and… I want to stay with Tony." The last bit about Tony had my smile faltering.
I leaned back in my chair, as I listened to their conversation, my initial skepticism began to wane. Mia's account of her conversation with her father had been surprisingly accurate so far. My gaze drifted to the security monitor on my desk, displaying Mia's relaxing figure in the garden, sipping tea and chatting with the elderly omega.
The recording kept playing and it was her father, Hunter, who spoke up again that captured my attention. There was something in his voice that gave me a feeling that he was nervous… secretive. "Mia, do you...have anything to give me?" Her father asked and my heart started to beat faster in anticipation as Mia hesitated to answer. “No, Dad." She finally managed to say and I could pick up that her voice was a bit higher than usual, as though she was trying too hard to sound convincing. "I don't have anything to give you now." She added and I immediately pressed stop on the recorder. I sat there for a second before I hit the rewind button. I listened to the exchange again. This time I could clearly hear the nervous undertone in Mia’s voice and even though Mia did tell me about this part of the conversation with her father, i immediately became suspicious when she said that she didn’t have anything to give him now… which meant that she does or might have something to give to him later? My mind raced with possibilities to what it could be. What secret was Mia keeping? I wondered as anger flared up in my chest.
I glanced back at the monitor again and I saw her laughing with the elderly omega as though she didn’t have a care in the world. How dare she sit there while she openly lied to me?! I thought as I abruptly got up from my chair with such force that the chair went flying back into the wall behind me.
With a resolute stride, I stormed out of my office, my anger-fueled determination driving me to uncover the truth. “MIKE!” I called for my beta through the mind link and almost immediately, he answered. “Yes, Alpha.” He said, sounding ready for anything and for any command. “Gather a few men and meet me in Mia’s room… NOW!” I barked out my order. “Yes, sir.” Was all that came through the mind link and by the time i reached Mia’s room, I heard Mike and a few of his trusted men rushing up the stairs. When I turned to face them, I could see that they were ready for anything and I almost felt guilty for calling them in such a rush, but it had to be done. “Mia is hiding something and i want it found, immediately, is that understood?” I barked out my order. Shock registered across all their faces before confusion set in. “Your future Luna is hiding something and I want it found.” I said in all seriousness so that they could see that I wasn't kidding. “I want each and every corner of her room searched until you find it.” I said and opened her bedroom door, invading her privacy. “What will we be looking for, Alpha Dominic?” Beta Mike asked and I turned back to face him as his men filed into the room behind him. We all looked impossibly too large for her room and for a brief moment I thought of changing my mind, but I shook off that feeling as my eyes roamed over her room.
The room was neat and organized except for a few books and papers scattered about on her desk. The scent of Mia, filled my nose and I had to put all my concentration into keeping my head to the task at hand. "Search everything." I instructed my men, my voice low and serious. Turn this room upside down if you have to but find whatever she is hiding. Look for anything out of the ordinary, it could be anything.” I growled as my gaze swept around her room again.
Within a few minutes, Mia’s room looked unrecognizable as my men tore through her room. Her bed was overturned as one of the men inspected the underside and the bed frame. Another one of my men was busy throwing out her clothes in her wardrobe before it came crashing on its side as they threw it over to inspect every inch of it. It was only when my beta Mike started throwing out her dresser drawers, scattering her clothes and personal items across the floor, did I notice something that came fluttering from between her socks.
"Stop!" I said, my voice low and urgent. "What is that?" I ask and the room falls silent immediately, except for the heavy breathing in the crowded room. I walked forward and picked up the folded piece of paper and started to unfold it. what I found, left me confused but I instinctively knew that this was what I was looking for.
