CHAPTER 13: ATTACK AT MARCUS’S HOUSE

Marcus POV

After Gina and Pavlo left, Mateo and I got to work planning my dinner with Gina tomorrow night. I’m so excited about that because I feel like I can win her back. “Dude do you really think that a simple dinner like this will impress Gina?” Mateo asks. “Trust me it’ll work.” I reply just as Mateo comes back from the shops with everything that he had to go and buy for me.
“Remember we have to marinade the meat now and leave it overnight in the fridge.” Mateo says as he takes out the pork ribs from the package. “I know that genius. I taught you all you need to know about how to marinate ribs.” I say as I take out the ingredients that I would need to make my special rib marinate sauce. Gina always loved it when I made this for her.

“I just have a question that I want to ask?” Mateo says as he puts away the rest of the groceries that he bought. “Okay what is it?” I say. “If things don’t work out between you and Gina tomorrow night, do you think that I will have a shot with her?” Mateo asks. And I nearly broke the rib bones in half as I take them out of the packet. “I will punch you in the fucking face if you even try to go after my girl!” I say. He starts laughing at me. “Relax dude. I was just messing with you I just wanted to see your reaction.” Mateo replies.

“You gotta be shitting me.” I say as he laughs even harder. “Gina is off limits you hear me asshole?” I say as he looks at me. “Got it. I won’t touch her I promise.” He says. That makes me feel better because Mateo knows how I feel about Gina. “You better or else I will punch you even harder than that cop did.” I say. “Hey It’s not my fault that he got jealous. I wasn’t trying to take his girl. Lina and I are just friends.” Mateo says as he grabs some snacks that we made for the meeting. We are going to eat that for lunch. “Did you tell him that?” I ask him. “Yes and still he punched me in the face. I’m still pissed at him for doing that.” Mateo replies.

I finish making the marinade sauce and then I put the ribs inside it before putting the container in the fridge. “Let’s go and sit outside by the pool. Will you bring the beers?” Mateo says as he grabs the sandwiches that we made. “Yes.” I will meet you outside because I have to use the bathroom.” I say and he nods at me. After using the bathroom, I go to the fridge and I grab us some beers as I put them inside a cooler box with ice.

Mateo is sitting on his phone by the pool. “Dude I just got a call from Gina. You won’t believe what she found at Lawrence’s house.” Mateo says. “Okay tell me.” I say. “She found five dead bodies in his basement.” Mateo says and I look at him in surprise. “You’re joking?” I say. “Not joking. I told you that guy was shady. I have to call Judge Hugh Harris and see if he’ll sign the arrest warrant.” Mateo replies.

“I guess the offices are closed because it’s Saturday and now the police can’t get an arrest warrant.” I say. “Jip.” Mateo says as he calls a number. He stands up and walks away to talk on the phone. Five minutes later he gets back. “I just got Judge Jerry Harris to sign the warrant. Looks like you won’t have to fire Lawrence after all. He won’t be able to represent you if his ass is sitting in jail.” Mateo says as he grabs a beer for himself.

“I decided that I was going to fire him the moment he hit on my girl this morning. When exactly do you get your results?” I ask. “Monday.” Mateo replies. “Then you’ll be able to take over the case.” I say and he nods. “I can’t wait. This is going to be awesome.” Mateo says making me laugh at him.

We spend the rest of the afternoon in the backyard and then we decide to go and workout in my gym. Mateo put his phone on charge in the kitchen while we were busy in the gym.

After 3 hours of working out, I decide to go and get us something to drink when Mateo’s phone starts ringing in the kitchen. “Could you get that for me please?” Mateo asks from the spare bedroom. “Yeah.” I say as I pick his phone. “Mateo’s phone Marcus speaking.” I say as I answer the phone. “Oh thank God. Marcus it’s Gina. Listen I need you to lock the doors and windows. Don’t go outside and don’t open for anyone unless it’s me. I’m almost at your house.” I hear Gina say to me. She sounds frantic.

“Gina what’s going on?” I ask but before she could say anything else, the backdoor bursts open and 5 guys with white masks on their faces start attacking me causing me to drop the phone. As a former karate champion, my reflexes start kicking in and I block the guy who tries to punch me in the face. “What the fuck is going on?” I hear Mateo yell as he runs into the kitchen.

“You two are about to die that’s what is going on.” One of the men say. “Oh yeah. Try and do that!” Mateo yells as he attacks the guy. Mateo punches him in the gut before he kicks him in the face making the guy fall on the floor. Mateo is a former kickboxing champion so he knows how to fight. I grab one of them by the back of his neck and I kick him in the face with my knee before I throw him over my kitchen counter.

Two other guys start attacking me while the last guy attacks Mateo. I dodge their every move until more guys start running in through the backdoor. I look around and I see that Mateo and I are outnumbered 15 to 2 but we don’t stop fighting. I grab two guys by their shirts and I slam them against each other. Mateo jumps over the kitchen counter and he kicks two guys in their faces. They both slam against the wall and fall down to the floor unconscious. “Enough playing around in there. Bring those two out here.” Someone yells from the outside just as more guys run into the house. They overpower Mateo and I and they drag us outside.

“We meet again Marcus Castellano.” One guy with a red mask says. He’s got a gun in his hand and he’s pointing it right at me. I guess he’s the leader of this group seeing that he’s wearing a different colored mask then the other guys. He is also the only one that is wearing a tank top. There’s a tattoo that’s in the form of an S on his right shoulder. Must be some kind of cult or something. “Who are you and what do you want with us?” I ask as three guys hold me down.

“Who I am is off no concern to you.” Red mask says. “Well if you’re going to kill me then I would like to know what your name is so that I can come and haunt your ass until you go crazy.” I say as I smirk at the fucker. “Shut up!” He yells back at me.

“You’re going to pay for what you did to me all those years ago Castellano.” Red mask says. “I have no idea what you’re talking about asshole.” I say as I look at him. I don’t recognize his voice because it sounds like he is using a device that can cover his real voice. Seriously this guy sounds like Stephen Hawking to me.

The other guys drag an unconscious Mateo out of the house as well. He looks pretty beaten up. “Mateo!” I yell at him. Red Mask walks till he’s in front of Mateo. “You’re going to watch as I kill your best friend and then it’ll be your turn Castellano.” Red Mask says. I see Gina slowly walking up to us from the corner of my eye. I turn my head slightly and she sees me looking at her. She puts her forefinger on her mouth, telling me that I should keep quiet about her being there. No one else but me has noticed that she's there.

Red Mask lifts his gun to Mateo’s forehead. “Listen I’ll give you anything, just let him go.” I say as I try to stall Red Mask a bit. “There's nothing that you have that I want so save your breath.” He says. He looks back towards Mateo. Red Mask is about to pull the trigger when Gina kicks his hand that is holding the gun in the air making Red Mask shoot one of the guys that’s holding onto Mateo. “You bitch!” Red Mask says as he raises his gun at Gina.

She grabs his hand and then she kicks him in his stomach making him fall to the ground in pain. Gina then twists his arm around and she breaks it making him lose control of the gun. He drops it on the ground. “You broke my fucking arm you bitch.” Red Mask yells as he gets up from the ground. “That’s not all that I’m going to break.” She says. The two other guys that were holding onto Mateo drop him on the ground and they run towards Gina. She takes out her gun from her holster and she shoots them both in their heads. I manage to break free from the three that were holding me.

I grab one guy by his neck and I pick him up to throw him against the other two. He is the biggest out of the three of them and It takes all my energy just to pick his ass up. “Damn you’re heavy.” I say as I throw him while I twist his neck, snapping it in half right before I let him go. His body crashes onto the other two making them fall down on the ground. Because his body is big, the crash knocks the two assholes unconscious.

I look over to where Gina is. She is standing in front of Red Mask. “Gina!” I say. She looks at me. “Don’t worry about me. Go and check on Mateo!” She yells as she points at Mateo. I nod before I run over to him. I grab his wrist to check his pulse and I can feel it’s still pumping. Mateo starts stirring. “Yoh dude wake up.” I say as I tap his face. Mateo opens his eyes and he grabs his head as he starts standing up. I hold out my hand in order to help him up.

“What happened in there?” I ask as I pull him up. “Those assholes hit me in the head with your big heavy frying pan.” He says as he takes his hand away from the back of his head. “You’re bleeding.” I say. “I know they hit me pretty hard.” He replies. I hear screaming coming from the other side of the yard and I see Gina still fighting Red Mask and two of his goons.

Gina runs before she jumps up in the air and she kicks the two other guys in their chests with her stilettos. They fall down on the ground groaning in pain. “Do you think she broke their ribs with those big heels of hers?” Mateo asks. “Oh she definitely did. Gina can kick hard. Trust me I know. Her father trained us both at the same time.” I say as I look at him.

Gina bends down as she grabs the one guy by his neck and she snaps it. I see Red Mask bending down to pick up his gun. “Oh hell no.” I say as I run over towards him and I kick the gun further away from him. Just then we hear a car pull up to the front of my house. “This isn’t over with Castellano. We will meet again.” Red Mask says as he starts walking away. “Next time I’ll be ready for your ass.” I say.

“We’ll see about that.” Red Mask says as he looks at me. “Come on let’s go.” Red Mask says to the other three guys that are still alive. The two that I knocked out seem to have woken up again. They runs past Mateo and he looks at them before he turns around and walks to where Gina and I are standing.
Gina wraps her arms around me. “I was so scared. I thought that I was going to lose you.” She says as she buries her face in my neck. I wrap my arms around her. “I get to live another day thanks to you.” I whisper in her ear.

Mateo walks over to one of the dead bodies and he rips the sleeve off. “We need to figure out what group these guys belong to.” Mateo says as he points to the tattoo on the guy’s arm. It is the same tattoo that Red Mask has but only a bit smaller.

“Mateo watch out.” Gina yells. Mateo turns around to look behind him. One of Red Mask’s goons was standing around the corner of the house and he’s pointing a gun at Mateo.
