Chapter 27: The Ultimate Betrayal!

I blinked back my tears and hugged him tightly as he murmured against my ear repeatedly that I will never lose him. I wanted to tell him about my origin, about who my father really was. But one look at his face and I can feel my resolve melting away.

He wiped away my tear with his little finger and his lips suddenly crashed into mine. At that moment all my worries were forgotten. He thrashed into me, making me fall to the ground with him on top as he continued kissing me hungrily. There was a desperateness in his kiss. I opened my mouth, granting his nudging tongue entrance and it immediately sought out all the places in my mouth. He sucked on my underlip, then bit it sharply. I let out a moan as I felt my own blood fill up my mouth.

I winced sharply at the pain and nudged him away and got up, straightening my now wet clothes.
He looked blank for a second, then blinked his eyes rapidly and raised his head to look at me. He saw the blood on my under lip where he had just bitten and frowned. I looked at him, taking in his wet hair, the shirt which clung to him wet and most importantly that pitch black eyes that I could loose myself into.

Stephanno is my mate. He deserves to know the truth. I squared up my shoulders and let out a deep breath , mentally preparing myself to get it over with.
“I…I have to tell you something…” I started hesitantly.
Stephanno immediately got up, brushing the dirt of his jeans as he did, then peered at me curiously, his eyes never leaving mine.

“Sire, The Head of the Sky Sect and the Air Sect are here” Peter interrupted us.
With an effort, Stephanno tore his eyes from mine and nodded at Peter, who immediately took off to god knows where.
“Go on” I said, letting out a sigh of relief. I wanted to tell him, I really did, but I was also scared out my mind to do it. I was chickening out even before Peter's interruption.

He looked at me expectantly for a second, scanning my face and I immediately frowned. What the hell was that grim look for? He then took off after Peter. Okay Jess! No more procrastinating, you will tell him the next time you meet him.

I let out a shudder as the water started dripping down my clothes, chilling my bones and I quickly rushed to the mansion to change. Ugh! the stairs were wet from my soaked clothes. I quickened my pace, hoping to reach my room before I make the entire hallway messy because of the water dripping from my clothes. I pushed back the wet strands which were sticking to my forehead annoyingly.

“You are just procrastinating Stephanno” A voice bellowed.
I immediately stiffened and looked around. The voice was coming from Stephanno’s study. I quickly changed my direction mid-step, against my better judgement and headed towards the study. I looked through the key hole and found that Stephanno, Amos and Victor were in a heated argument.

I was getting the floor all wet but I didn’t care, I bent my head and kneeled down, positioning myself in front of the keyhole comfortably. I don’t know why I was eavesdropping but my guts were telling me to hear it out and my guts were almost always right..

“ You are in love with her, aren’t you?” Amos spat at him.
Stephanno winced , backing away from Amos and replied, “She is my mate”
“You took an oath. I thought you were a man of your word, Stephanno.” Victor replied icily.
“Give me some time. I am still working down her defenses. I have to get close to her to know her weakness then only can we exploit them. And I didn’t forget my vow Victor, I am merely bidding my time” Stephanno said calmly.

I frowned. What in the hell were they talking about? Stephanno love? Oh no!
I pushed my ear against the door frantically hoping to god, what I am thinking right now is not the case.

“ Did she show any of her powers yet? “ Victor asked, tilting his head.
I gripped the key hole harder, as I adjusted myself to get a better look at them.
“Not yet….but she will soon. I am forcing her to show her real powers by trying to manipulate her into training with me to water bend. I have felt a water source in her, which is very dormant. She may be able to water bend, but it won’t be powerful enough to cause any real damage.”
“Then how will she do it? Did the prophecy state that?” Amos snarled at him.

At the exact same moment he said ‘prophecy’, a sense of foreboding passed through me. I felt the hairs on my neck stand up at the same moment I felt a chill down my spine. The prophecy? Surely not? No way….How did he even?

“ No the prophecy only stated she would be the cause of the war. It was quiet on how she would accomplish that” Stephanno said with a strain.
“ So you have absolutely no clue about her powers other than the fact that she can fire bend?”
“But that’s curious….very curious indeed….Fire and water can’t exist together. Stephanno are you sure you felt a water source inside her?”
He nodded at Amos, bewildered.
Amos said again, “How curious….Yes, very interesting isn’t it? Would you like to know why? I bet that it isn't fire that she can bend"

I frowned back and thought about Stepahnno’s sudden insistence to train me to water bend when we haven’t yet finished weapons training. I was a delusional fool to think that he was really interested in me…but instead he wanted to treat me like a laboratory rat, experimenting on my powers. A sickening, nauseating feeling hit my stomach and I double over as I realized that he never really loved me….It was an act…all of it…..

Stephanno choked, his eyes widening with panic as he realized implications behind Amos's words, “Nooo…You mean to say that she can bend hellfire? That she is actually from the blood sect?”
I winced at the venom in his voice when he said blood sect.

“Do I have your word that you would end her when she fully reveals the nature and extent of her true powers?”
“I do”, Stephanno solemnly stated without even taking a moment to think.

I gasped out loud, disgusted by his insincerity. I wasn’t even worth to think for a few minutes before he swears to kill me? Was that all I was to him? A mission? For god's sake we were kissing just a few minutes ago.

I shook myself from my daze, held my palm tightly into fists and willed myself to calm down as I bent my head again to look in the keyhole and found that two long legs were walking towards the door….towards me.

Crap! Why did I gasp out loud? I, immediately got up all ready to bolt but slipped on my own pool of water and fell onto the white marble floors. I winced out in pain as the door opened and out entered Amos, followed closely by Stephanno and Victor.

Amos looked genuinely surprised to see me there while Stephanno and Victor went pale behind him. I couldn’t even bear to look at Stephanno.
I quickly got up and straightened out my clothes and stood before them, my shoulders straight, my head held eye as I stared down at Amos with contempt.

What a picture! Me staring furiously at them, wet to my bones, my hair all parted, my clothes all dripping with water. I was a mess.
“Well….well….well, look who decided to show up. If isn’t the daughter of the Devil, I will be damned” Amos drawled in a sarcastic tone.
“ Well…well…well, If it isn’t the conniving son of a bitch with his sidekick and my mate…..Oops! Sorry did I interrupt your rather fabulous plans of murdering me?” I replied in the same mocking tone, mimicking his actions.

Stepahanno fidgeted uncomfortably, shifting his weight from one leg to another behind Amos. Victor curled up behind Stephanno, looking at me with fright.
They were the ones planning my death….and he has the audacity to look at me with fear?

“Jess…listen” Stephanno took a step forward, holding his hands in front of him like he was declaring peace.
I snickered at him, “Jess…Jess?”
He immediately froze and eyed me wearily, while Victor started playing with his robes nervously.
They were the ones plotting to murder an eighteen year old and they have the audacity to treat me like I am the monster here?

“Now that the cat’s out of the bag. Shall we start testing your imperceivable powers?” Amos said in a bored tone, flicking his long white hair over his shoulders as he raised his hands, ready for action.
Stephanno immediately stiffened next to him, his eyes widening as he realized what Amos was going to do. A brief look of conflict and indecision passed through his face before a firm resolve passed through those pitch black eyes.

I , involuntary took a step back, eyeing Amos all the while. If it broke into a fight I was all alone…No Dominic or Justin Or Christopher as all of them have left for the Fire sect and Stella…Stella was still in the coma….Amos, though he was ancient, he was the best guardian of his time. He had after all been credited with the destruction of an entire sect…..and also he was the man who took out my father who was supposed to be invincible. And Stephanno was deadly in a battle. I will never be able to hold my ground against all three of them.
