BOOM BOOM
Inside the heart of the ancient structure, Aiden moved swiftly through the passageways, the eerie blue glow lighting his way. His mind was focused, his connection with the Echoes still strong. He could feel their presence guiding him, whispering to him through the energy that pulsed from the stone walls.
Finally, he reached what appeared to be the control room—the central nerve of Aetheria’s ancient power. The room was vast, its ceiling lost in shadow, and at the center was a massive pedestal, similar to the one in the previous chamber. But this one was different. Its carvings glowed with an intense, fiery light, and the air around it thrummed with raw energy.
“This is it,” Aiden whispered to himself. “The key to Aetheria’s power.”
Without hesitation, he stepped toward the pedestal and placed his hands on its surface. A jolt of energy shot through his body, and for a brief moment, he felt weightless. His mind expanded, reaching out across the planet, feeling the pulse of its core, the flow of its energy.
Images flooded his mind—of the Echoes, of their ancient civilization thriving in harmony with the planet, and of the fall that came when outsiders attempted to take what they didn’t understand. Aetheria had protected itself then, and it could do so again.
“Aiden,” a voice called to him. He recognized it immediately. It was the Echo he had spoken to before.
“What do I need to do?” he asked, his voice calm despite the storm of power coursing through him.
“You must activate the heart of Aetheria. It will awaken the planet’s defenses, but be warned: once the heart is activated, it cannot be undone. The planet will protect itself, and those who pose a threat will be destroyed.”
Aiden took a deep breath. “I understand.”
The voice softened. “You have the strength within you, Aiden. Do not let fear guide your hand. The light must be preserved.”
With a final surge of determination, Aiden pressed his hands deeper into the pedestal. The carvings flared to life, and the room around him began to tremble. He could feel the power building beneath the surface, rising like a tidal wave, ready to be unleashed.
Outside, the ground quaked, and a deep, resonant hum filled the air. The sky above darkened, swirling with energy as the planet responded to Aiden’s command. The corporations’ ships, still closing in, faltered in their approach as the air around them shimmered with an intense forcefield.
Back in the control room, the crew watched in awe as Aetheria’s defenses came online. Massive pillars of light shot up from the surface of the planet, creating an impenetrable barrier around them.
Ava’s eyes widened. “It’s working... Aiden, you did it.”
But Aiden wasn’t finished. He knew the corporations wouldn’t give up so easily. They would find a way to breach the defenses, and when they did, Aetheria’s true power would be unleashed.
He stepped back from the pedestal, his heart still racing, but now filled with a sense of purpose. “I’ve only bought us some time,” he said to himself. “The real fight is still ahead.”
The voice of the Echo whispered one final time in his mind: “You are the protector now, Aiden. Guard the light.”
As Aiden returned to the surface, the air crackling with energy, Ava rushed to meet him. “We’ve stabilized for now, but the corporations are regrouping. What do we do next?”
Aiden’s gaze was distant, yet sharp. “We prepare for the final assault. They’ll come with everything they’ve got, but Aetheria will be ready.”
He looked up at the sky, watching as the enemy ships hovered just beyond the glowing barrier. For the first time in a long while, Aiden felt a strange mix of hope and fear.
“We fight,” he said quietly, his voice filled with resolve. “For Aetheria, and for everything it stands for.”
The Echoes had chosen him, and now, there was no turning back.
As the final words left his lips, Aiden stood for a moment, taking in the enormity of what was about to unfold. He could feel the weight of the planet’s energy thrumming beneath his feet, vibrating through his very bones. The sky above shimmered with the glow of the planet's protective barrier, but Aiden knew it wouldn’t hold forever.
The Echoes had given him the power to shield Aetheria for a time, but they hadn't given him the ability to stop what was coming—at least not yet.
Ava’s voice cut through the tense air. “They’re moving again,” she said, glancing at the holoscreen where a fleet of corporate warships hovered on the edge of the planet’s forcefield. “They’re recalibrating their weapons. It won’t be long before they test the defenses.”
Aiden turned to her, his eyes dark but focused. “Get the others ready. We need to make sure that when the shield drops, we’re prepared to defend this place with everything we have.”
Ava hesitated for a moment, looking at Aiden as if she wanted to say something. “Aiden… about Earth, and Emma…”
