CHAPTER 11
After the 3 hours drive the previous day, we went to the movie theater. Liam and I stood close to each other to avoid suspicion while Diana stood behind fuming with jealousy.
When the movie was over, I went back home while Liam and Diana went straight to the office. Why Diana had to follow him to the office was what I didn't understand. She was working there but it doesn't mean they have to go together.
I wasn't much of an office fan so I didn't stress myself to follow them. After all, I'm still his wife regardless of what she thinks or does.
When I arrived home, Mrs. Smith was waiting for me with all the chores she had for me in the morning. There was no way I could have said 'No' to her. She already hated me for the big lie my family told them on the day of my wedding. Mrs. Smith found out the whole thing. How she did, was something I couldn't figure out. Only the people at my family house knew about Lisa's escape. For starters, I took her clothes from her and went to wash them. There were washing machines in every corner of this house and maids but Mrs. Smith just wanted to punish me. I washed the clothes thoroughly before proceeding to her room.
When I was done with everything, I walked into my room and jumped on the bed. I was so tired that I couldn't wait for Liam to return.
The following day, I sat up on the bed. I turned on my laptop and read some old messages. My eyes quickly noticed an old message. I read it out swiftly with shock.
"Lisa is in Canada?" How's this possible? I quickly opened the profile of the person that sent the message and asked him,
"How do you know that?" It was almost like he had been waiting for my message, he quickly replied,
"I saw her at my dad's shop. She wanted to get a gold bracelet."
"Do you know what she looked like or where she could be?"
"Toronto." As soon as he said that, he went offline. I closed the laptop and stared at the clock. Lisa has been in Canada this whole time and I didn't know.
Lisa was the least of my problems. First, I'll find a good school for Diana before I get back to Lisa's case.
I turned on my laptop again and searched for nursing schools in Australia. After several failed attempts to find a good school, I finally found one. I quickly filled up Diana's credentials I had found in Liam's bag and sent it. Hopefully, Diana would be admitted into that school. She was a bright student so there was nothing to fear.
I brought out my damaged phone, thankfully it was only the screen that cracked. I dialed Rachel's number.
"Yes?" the receiver on the other end answered.
"I want to speak with Rachel."
"Rachel, someone wants you and not me." The receiver yelled. "Hey, Anna? What's kicking?"
"I'm sorry about that day." I apologized.
"Friends don't say sorry, right? You had no choice then. It was my fault for bringing up your marriage in public."
"I need a favor from you."
"Anything for a friend."
"I just heard that Lisa is in Canada. She's in this same city with me."
"Really? I just moved to Toronto with my mum. This is good news. This means I can see you two again."
"That's why I called. I want you to help me find out where she's staying. She was at a jewelry shop a few days ago. I'll send you the location."
"Ok. I'll get back to you when I find out something. Bye." CLICK.
I dropped my phone on the bed and opened my laptop again. A new message had just entered. It was Diana's admission. She was given admission into the school. I leaped with joy. Finally, she would be gone.
I scurried downstairs with my laptop in my hand.
"Take it easy. You're going to fall." Diana deadpanned.
"Thanks for your concern. Aunt Smith,"
She rolled her eyes before answering, "How many times do I have to tell you all that I have a name? It's Joan."
"Sorry. Aunt Joan, I found a school for Diana."
"Really?" Liam took the laptop from me. "How's that possible? Diana said she couldn't find any good school in Australia."
"That's because she didn't search very well. Diana did something very beautiful for me two days ago, and I've been thinking of how to repay that favor. Thankfully, I saw an advertisement for a school. They are looking for students who want to study nursing. Diana, you do not have any reason to stay here."
"That's true, Darling." Mrs. Smith added. "You can take our private jet. Tomorrow morning, you will be leaving."
"But Aunt, what's the rush? I will go when I'm prepared." She stammered.
"Silly girl." Liam brushed her hair. "I know why you don't want to go."
"Huh?"
"You want to stay close to me. If I had my way, I'll tell you to come live with us forever."
"Then do it."
"No. Your academics come first. You will leave tomorrow." She gave me a dead stare. For all I cared, she was leaving the house and that's all that mattered.
Mr. Smith removed his glasses and dropped his newspaper on the table. "Once Diana leaves, her place at the office will be empty. Now would be a good time to start teaching your wife everything she needs to know about the office."
"Hannah?" Liam smiled out of frustration. "Isn't it enough that she's sharing the same room as me, now you are asking me to take her along with me to the office?"
"Yes. I admit that it's your office and this is your house, but I have to teach you what you don't know."
"There's no way I'm taking this girl to my office." He insisted.
"Liam, if your dad says you should do it, then do it." His mum begged him.
I moved back slowly. I came down to give Diana the biggest news of her life but I also got one from Mr. Smith. I've never liked the idea of going to the office. Never for one day did I step foot near my dad's office. I just hated the idea of paper works and having people call you ma'am.
"How long are you going to keep arguing with your father? Liam,"
"Only for your sake, mum."
"Mr. Smith," I called him after we had gone upstairs.
"Liam. Only my dad goes by that name, Mr. Smith."
"It doesn't change the fact that it's your name as well."
"Why don't you go bother someone else. You intentionally found a school for Diana so she will leave."
"What's this? I did a favor for your freaky friend and this is how to say thanks? "
"What were you expecting? He walked two steps close to where I was standing and grabbed my waist.
"Li...Liam."
"You desperately want a thank you, right? This is how I say thank you to any lady close to me." With his right hand on my lips, he slapped my butt with his other hand. How could just slapping someone's butt bring so much pleasure?
"Liam.....please." I moaned.
"Don't be a naughty girl. Accept my apology quietly. I'm very grateful for what you did for Diana." He slapped it again. I didn't want him to stop.
"I'm sorry."
"Have you accepted my thank you?"
"Yes....yes. Shit!" I screamed.
"Good girl. He walked inside the bathroom to wash his hands. I poured myself a glass of water and gulped it down at once.
"I'm going out with my friends." He said after he had come out of the bathroom. "Don't wait for me."
"But Liam,"
"And yes, our lawyer is coming with our divorce papers tomorrow."
"What? Divorce papers?" Why get divorced so soon? We didn't even discuss this, but it was what I always wanted so why was I feeling restless.
"Mrs. Hannah Liam Smith, you have a meeting by 2 pm. Did you forget that you volunteered to teach children on the topic, 'forgiveness?'"One of the servants asked.
"Thanks." Liam and I will go our separate ways after today. I zipped my gown and applied my make-up to hide my sadness.
"Let's go."
