Chapter 10

It had been two whole days since the incident between Ace, Carlisle and I, and none of either boys had tried to talk to me.

Ace didn't pick me up from my house during those past two days, and his car wasn't parked in his usual spot anymore. I hadn't tried to call him, or sent him a text, he sadly did the same to me.

Carlisle on the other hand didn't even come to school at all for the past two days. Even if he was at school, he did a good job at avoiding me like I was nothing but thin air.

He must have taken what I said to heart and stayed out of my line of sight. I didn't even have his number to try and contact him. The boy wasn't even on social media, he was like a walking ghost.

I let out a depressed sigh and slightly banged my head on my desk, frustrated with how bent out of shape things had gotten.

"No sighing in detention." My stuck-up homeroom teacher announced from where she sat, reminding me that this wasn't my bedroom, but detention.

I raised my head up to look at her carefully, she had her nose buried in a book, a novel, my eyes couldn't make out the title.

"Sorry." I replied, pretty sure she didn't catch what I said, she was pretty engrossed in the book she was reading.
This was my second time in detention for spacing out and failing to realise it. If I got a third one on just the first week of school, my mom would read me the riot.

"If you're going to continue spacing out, then you might as well just tell me what's bothering you so much." I heard her say from the front, placing her book down on the teacher's desk.

I thought she was just kidding at first, but when she pulled a chair and took a seat across me, placing both legs at both sides of the chair, it was clear she was damn serious.

"Wow, you're sitting like that, aren't you going to get in trouble?" I pried, staring down at her legs which were exposed, due to her skirt which rode up pretty high.

"I spend my entire day enforcing rules, I think one hour after school won't kill me. I'm twenty frickin five, if you failed to notice." She told me with a straight face, taking off her glasses, and letting her hair fall to her shoulders.

"There's really nothing to say, it's just some teenage drama here and there... nothing too much for me to handle." I lied, hopelessly bad at it.

She placed her long fingers on chin, gently massaging her jaw. "If it's anything like that book I'm reading, then you're having boy problems, am I wrong?" She guessed, hitting too close to home.

"It's just us two and an entire hour of detention, you can choose to sit here and groan away your time, or... You can talk to me about it, and I'll tell you what I think you should do."

It didn't take much convincing from her for me to cave in and tell her everything, leaving out some parts about what Ace did two days ago.
"Ace is my boyfriend and I know he's entitled to have..." She didn't let me say anymore and rudely cut me off.

"You see that word you just used, entitled? Peyton, you don't owe anything to anybody. In fact after listening to you, he's the one who needs to apologise for being such a dick head about it. Geez! What's with teenage boys these days, horny much?" She teased at the end, pushing her hair behind her ear.

"I don't?"

"No! Not especially to someone who won't value you, if he's going to keep on insisting, then I don't need to say the obvious." She said, saying what I hoped she wasn't saying.

"I can't break up with him! I really like him so much, and he's not a bad guy. This whole situation is just awkward." I explained.

She wore a questioning gaze on her face, "you can't or you won't? Which is it? Because if you're with him for the wrong reasons, then your relationship will only hurt you the most." She told me, slipping her glasses back on.

I never expected to have a deep talk with someone I literally met this week, and moreso a teacher who I really thought hated me.

"And the other boy? What do you think about him?" She inquired, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose.
I could feel a chill run down my spine when she asked me about him so suddenly. The wide grin on her face didn't make matters any better either.

"Carlisle?" I tried to play dumb, but the Stern look on her face meant if I didn't keep her interested she might revert back to her old self.

"I think he's too nosey." I bluntly said, averting my gaze to my nails, admiring the nude pink I had applied this morning.

"Are you sure that's all you think of him? Just the nosey boy at school?" She pried, obviously trying to aim at something I wasn't getting.

I scratched the back of my head, brainstorming if there was anything more to Carlisle Stoll. "Well, he's convenient." I finally said under my breath, making sure to sound as indistinct as possible.

"Oh, is he?" She asked, encouraging me to go on, an overly excited look plastered on her face.

I relaxed into my seat, fighting the wide smile that almost crept upon my face. "He doesn't speak much, nor does he stand out. But, having someone around to catch you when you fall or save you from a speeding car, or to help you out when you mess up someone else's artwork is something I find really convenient." I unconsciously blurted out, smiling at the end of my speech.

For a moment, we both remained perfectly silent, realising just how much more I spoke about him more than my own boyfriend.
"Well, have you told him all this? That you think he's a real convenient person to have around." She interrogated, reaching the end of our little girl chat. The time ran so fast I didn't realise that we had used up the entire hour talking about my boy problems.

"No. I don't think I should be talking to him at all, I know Ace wouldn't like it..."

"Peyton, you're not Ace, and frankly speaking I'm not so sure your boyfriend would stop speaking to someone just because you don't approve. I'm asking about you, do you mind Carlisle's company or not? If you do mind it, then stay away from him. But if you genuinely enjoy having a convenient person around you, then I say screw it. Go make up with him and get things back on track." She advised, standing to to gather her things.

I shoved my things into my bag, thinking hard on what she told me, contemplating the idea in my head.
"And don't space out in class so much it'll affect your grades." She cautioned, holding her book to shove into her red handbag.

My eyes caught sight of the name, "The vampire who loves me." I mouthed, reading it out word for word.

"Must be pretty interesting to have you glued to it so much." I stated on my way out, resting my left hand against the door hinge.

She peeked at the book title then at the page she left her bookmark inside. "It's pretty okay, the others readers in the book club will never guess the huge twist at the end. I just love penny and Carlos so much!" She told me with so much excitement, staring at the page.

"What happened at the end?" I asked, truly intrigued by how interesting the novel must be, to make the sour faced teacher fan-girl over it.

"Oh, in the end of the story Carlos..." She took a pause and grinned from ear to ear, using her index finger to shush herself.

"You'll just have to wait and see for yourselves."
