Lies Become Truth
They stood before the stream; a large fire burning a short distance away, Brayden and Morgan had come here to begin his teachings. “Control is the most important part of your entire journey; and it begins with your mind. You have spent your entire life living as a mortal; now it is time for you to embrace and completely give in to your supernatural instincts.
Your father was an extremely powerful Alpha; his abilities went unmatched and his honor is legendary. Werewolves have unique abilities, stemming from not only their lineage but their spirit. A werewolf comes by one of two ways; born or bitten. An alpha gains its stance by either challenging and defeating a reigning alpha, being born into it as you were or by sheer honorable spirit; this is known as the Moroccan Alpha. You, Brayden are a mixture of the last two. Your father gained his status as the Moroccan Alpha due to his nature; he earned it through loyalty, strength, character and heart. In this world you cannot survive alone; you must have a pack, a family that is led by an alpha.
In generations past alphas often led their packs according to the rules set forth by counsels of the highest ranked werewolves; this is called the Moon Stone Pack, your father served on this counsel.” Brayden listened intently as Morgan told him about his ancestors; intrigued and feeling his chest swell with pride. His father must’ve been an amazing man, he thought to himself, to become an alpha by sheer will of heart and spirit was something to be very proud of.
“Sit,” she said as she pointed to a spot on the ground in front of the fire, “I want to show you your history; embrace your prideful feelings, you come from a long line of brave wolves but there’s more.” She sat across from him with her legs crossed, staring into the fire. “Take a deep calming breath, Brayden, close your eyes and listen to my voice; listen with your heart,” she said. He did what he was told and closed out everything but the sound of her voice as she began his story.
“Many moons ago, your father was sent on a mission from the counsel to check on a brewing situation between one of the founding packs and a coven of witches. There was tension between the two and he was sent as an advocate to calm the bordering kingdoms; what he found instead was his soulmate.”
“She was sitting under the light of the moon, brewing a stew in a cauldron over the fire just outside her cottage. He had never seen a more beautiful woman, her hair was thick and as black as coal; it flowed down her back past her waist. For your kind, Brayden, when a wolf finds his soulmate a merging happens; an uncontrollable sensation takes over their souls and they cannot help the bonding that takes place; they will forever be attached.”
“The problem was, she was not of his kind; she was not a werewolf, in fact she was a Queen Witch. She knew he was behind her even though he remained silent, just watching; she felt him. When she stood and faced him their worlds collided; the winds picked up, birds left the trees that surrounded them all at once and the moon above turned a pinkish red. His heart burst into emotions he had never experienced before and he fell to his knees; not understanding how his destined mate could be a witch.”
“It didn’t matter that neither of them quite understood; the moons had aligned and set their sites on the two of them; and destiny would not be forsaken. They spent the next several years being inseparable; together they not only calmed the tension between the bordering kingdoms, they actually managed to blend them peacefully. Both supernatural forces grew to adore the couple and held them to a high regard.”
“When word spread the Queen was pregnant both kingdoms came together to celebrate; both worlds were very excited to see the child born mixed with witch and werewolf blood. This changed everything; the worlds were forever blended now and it meant great things were on the horizon.”
“Word spread quickly around the land; the child of a Queen Witch and Moroccan Alpha drew curiosity for miles away, this worried those closest to the couple. Increased guards were very noticeable to all; but it was a necessity to keep them protected.”
“Gifts from all over were brought to the kingdom and laid in front of the main cottage where they stayed. The night before the birth; the ritualistic ceremony was beginning to take place. The Druid set up the circle of cottages and witches of the covens prepared the potions and protection spells; your father ordered the packs to patrol the borders to ensure safety.”
“After several hours of labor, you entered this world under a full moon that shone through an opening at the top of the hut your mother gave birth in. Your father was so proud, Brayden, a healthy son to follow in his footsteps, he felt blessed by the Gods; and then the unthinkable happened.”
“Henis sent his right hand in first, Horace sliced his way through the unarmed onlookers that were just there to celebrate the birth of their leaders’ child. Chaos broke out quickly as the rest of his soldiers forced their way in and began killing people ruthlessly. As you lay on that boulder, Henis finished cutting through your ancestors one by one; including your father.”
Brayden felt a deep sense of loss; hearing Morgan tell the story in detail brought so much sorrow, he felt as if he couldn’t breathe. He found himself torn between excitement of learning who he was and where he came from and mourning the loss of a father he never knew. How could one hurt so badly over someone he never met?
“It’s the power of an alpha; you're connected through your souls, his absence in your life does not mean absence from your memories,” Morgan told him, reading his thoughts. It is a gift and a curse; you have the ability to see your memories, Brayden, you will learn more on how to control that with time.”
“I mourn him; and desire to learn more about him. Henis robbed me of a great man,” he said as he stood and turned toward the forest. His emotions were running high, anger began to build deep inside him again and he worked hard to control the rage.
“Do you feel the need to seek revenge is greater than the ability to change the path Henis has created? The powers passed on from your parents come with a cost; you may choose to use those to rule the kingdoms as your parents had in the past or you could choose to let your revenge play out. A Moroccan Alpha can not hold his place as such by using his abilities for evil; he must stay true to the reasons he became a Moroccan Alpha to begin with.”
Brayden knew she was right; but it was so hard to control a temper he had never controlled before, all of this was so new to him. He wanted to be the alpha that was born into him, to make his parents proud, but his anger made that hard.
Was he ready to be that man? That alpha? Yes, he felt he was. The more Morgan told him the more he wanted to learn; he started this journey to seek the truth and he wasn’t going to stop until he found out the whole story.
Brayden dropped his head, all of his focus now shifted on the one person that he knew absolutely nothing about; his mother. Henis had slain everyone there, and yet he had not heard how she escaped. “In all of this devastation; I know not what happened to my mother that night? How did she escape?” Brayden asked softly.
“She had protection spells cast all around her; she was well guarded. When the fighting broke out she saw your father dead on the ground as Henis stood over the Druid’s dead body. Horace had you in his arms as they thought they had killed everyone; she felt it would be safer to use the ability to disappear and save herself for she would have to find a way to get you back.”
Brayden’s heart froze; his skin began to tingle as he realized he did not recognize the voice speaking behind him. Morgan’s voice definitely did not sound as sweet as that, nor did she have the ability to send chills over his body at the sound of her voice.
His head raised as he slowly turned; fear and excitement all at once flooded his heart and soul as he locked eyes on the gorgeous woman standing before him. Her sweet voice matched the glorious energy she exuded as she stood within a few feet from him; her eyes wide and filled with tears of relief and love. The woman he never knew he longed for….his mother.
