Amapola Part 2

“Amapola?” I hear Salvatore’s voice after a knock on the door, and I brace myself for his explosion when he sees the amount of things Angela bought.
“Come in,” I say, even though I know if he wanted to, he would have barged in without permission. Salvatore doesn’t wait for anyone’s approval.
“I see Angela did what I asked,” he says as he surveys all the items spread out in the room. “Are you ready?”
“You had her bring all this?” I ask, astonished.
“Yes. Is there a problem?” he questions, not understanding why I’m surprised.
“Look, you didn’t need to get all this; another pair of clothes would have been enough...” I start, but he cuts me off.
“I asked if you were ready, Amapola, not for your opinion on the items I told her to get for you.”
“But you can’t...”
“I can, Amapola. I can do whatever I want. If you’re ready, let’s go; I want to reach our destination before nightfall,” he says, leaving the room. I rush to follow him down the hallway, tugging the suitcase that now feels too heavy.
“Where are we going?” I ask as he stops walking to take the suitcase from my hands.
“You ask too many questions, ragazza. I advise you to stay silent and keep your tongue in your mouth,” he says, pausing at the top of the stairs and leaving the suitcase there. A security guard comes up to grab it, and I follow silently to the car.
I wave at Angela from inside the vehicle; she watches us from the stairs with a smile on her lips. I hope she’s right; I want to return and see her again.
