Chapter Forty Seven

Chapter Forty Seven
Elizabeth’s POV
Apart from what I imagined an assassins group looking like, the building Zen was located in was not an abandoned warehouse, but a mansion on a hill just outside of town. The public record of its blueprints showed a separate building, detached from the house, that I could only assume was the training gym that Zen had mentioned before. According to the prints, there was a basement built beneath the gym. That would be where I went first. In an effort to blend it, I dressed in my all black training uniform, black Nikes, and black Leather gloves. I proudly displayed the holster on my upper thigh that held a new dagger, knowing that it wouldn’t draw attention amongst the group. The complex wasn’t gated or guarded, probably because everyone here wanted to seem as unsuspicious as possible and there were other homes within line of sight.
There was a parking lot located just off of the drive with countless luxury cars sprinkled throughout. The entire place was white stucco, camera’s littering the premises. It looked like some sort of celebrity lived there.
Subtle, confident, and quick, just like Zen taught me. I had to act like I belonged there. With my head held high, I parked Tom’s black jaguar amidst the unofficial car show, and marched up to the door to the warehouse, all with a subtle swing of my hips for sex appeal. My eyes were adorned with smoky eyeshadow and my lips were a crimson red. I chewed lazily on my menthol flavored gum that I had picked to remind me of why I had to succeed and pulled open the heavy set steel doors to the complex. I was immediately greeted with the stench of bleach, sweat, and cologne. The first room was an absolutely massive gym, filled to the brim with at least a hundred men and women working out. I noticed two doors to the right, signs outside marking them as locker rooms, as well as a back hallway that would’ve led to various office spaces, gun ranges, the kitchen, and the door to the basement.
I glanced down at my smart watch. The detective’s men should be getting into place any moment, waiting for my call. I moved quickly, grabbing a white towel from the rack, draping it over my neck, and then stopping at the treadmills that were located the closest to the hall. I jogged on the machine for approximately three minutes before wiping my brow and hopping from the track. I entered the hallway, shooting for the last door at the end when the voice of a young man stopped me.
“Hey, are you new? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before.” Shit. I turned slowly, making sure to rake my eyes up and down the man’s body to boost his ego, a sensual grin taking over my lips. I licked them once before meeting his green eyes.
“Yea, Danny just scouted me last week. I was gonna grab a bottle of water from the kitchen. I left mine at home.” I explained, taking a small step towards the kitchen on the right. He sauntered over to me, reaching out to tuck a lock of my black hair behind my ear while his other hand landed on my hip. Wow, these people really waste no time.
“Why don’t I keep you company? I’ve been here just over a year, so I’m pretty familiar with how things run around here. I’d love to show you around.” A year? Good, still a newbie. I darkened my eyes, leaning into his touch, even though his clammy hands and excessive amount of cologne made me want to puke.
“I’ll only be a minute.” I purred, running my hands up his chiseled torso and pulling my face an inch from his. “How about you meet me in the women’s locker room in two? I would love for you to teach me what you know.” I lifted a brow, then pulled my bottom lip between my teeth. He swallowed deep, showing me a satisfied grin.
“As you wish. I hope you make a good student.” He winked, giving my ass a pinch before pulling away and sauntering back down the hall. Ugh, disgusting pig. As soon as he rounded the corner I darted for the basement door. That little exchange lost me two more minutes. The concrete steps were dimly lit and led to a small landing before wrapping back around. I felt like I was in a cave with how enclosed everything seemed to be. I could hear muffled screams echoing from down the steps. Oh my God. It’s Zen. It didn’t take me long to finish my descent, unbuckling my holster along the way. Once I reached the bottom of the steps, I was immediately horrified.
There was a large monitor that showed a full frontal image of Zen strapped into a chair. His body was soaked in what I assumed was water and blood, and he was shouting in pain as a man slowly and carefully sliced into his forearms with a dagger. A bright light was shining down on him and he was shaking like a leaf. The only thing to distract me from the horror in front of me was a small movement in the corner of the room.
I looked up to see familiar light brown hair, focused on a monitor of his own. Flynn. Rage quickly built inside of me, but I suppressed it, knowing that if I wanted to ensure Zen’s safety, my mind had to be clear. I took feather-like steps in his direction, stopping just shy of the chair he was sitting in. I then drew my dagger, grabbing onto his hair and yanking his head back so that the blade could hit his neck, but he was faster than me. His hands came up and jerked my wrist to the side, making my knife clatter to the ground. He jumped from the chair, pushing it backwards with a kick of his foot making me fall backwards onto my rear. I quickly jolted back to my feet, but he was already ready with his gun drawn and aimed in my direction.
I held my hands up in surrender. His eyes narrowed at me before widening in shock and realization. “Holy shit, Elizabeth?” I smiled in return.
“Miss me?”
He slowly lowered his gun, a loud laugh escaping his lips. “Oh, this is just too funny. You’re lucky Dan gave strict orders not to kill you, or you would already have a bullet in your brain. That doesn’t mean that I won’t take you out of course. I bet Dan would love to hear how you snuck in here.” He rolled his shoulders, squaring up to me with the same predatory look that I had seen from Zen. The room must’ve been soundproofed, because the only noise being heard from the torture chamber came through a speaker sitting on the desk. I took a deep breath. I needed to win this fight. I needed to, for Zen.
He lunged at me quickly, but I managed to dodge left. His stamina would be high, so I had to get on the offensive. If I stayed defense the whole time, I would just tire out quickly. I aimed a kick for his left knee, but he hopped over my legs, bringing his fist down on my knee in a powerful punch. I screamed out in pain, but managed to crawl under the desk behind me. Ignoring his laughter, I pressed the call button for the Detective.
“Come on now, hiding won’t do any good if I know where you are dumb bitch.” My hands were trembling, but I tried my best to control it. I needed to find my knife. Suddenly, lights began blaring from the hallway, distracting Flynn from his hunt. “Fuck!” He cursed, moving his gun to his waistband and crossing to the speaker on the wall. No! I saw the reflection of the red light on the blade of my dagger against the wall opposite of me. As quickly as I could, I retrieved it, jumping onto Flynn’s back and burying the dagger into his shoulder. He cried out in pain, reaching for the button and shouting “Nate, kill him now!” at the wall. No! He can’t!
Flynn started thrashing to get me off his back, launching himself into the wall to loosen me. Zen’s screams from the monitor fueled my hatred and I grabbed his pistol, kicked out his knee, and swung myself around his body as it hit the floor. In what felt like a millisecond, I removed the safety from the gun, dug my knee into his chest and aimed it point-blank into his face, releasing three shots into his forehead. What had I done?
His body went limp beneath me and I was frozen in place, covered in the blood spatter of the man who broke me. This must’ve been what Zen felt when he killed his father. Excruciatingly painful satisfaction. I did what I thought I could never do. That day, I became a killer.
With cold eyes, and an even colder heart, I stood from Flynn’s dead body, crossing over to the door of the cell. As soon as I stepped into the room, the man who hurt my knight came into view. He set down the knife, standing as he took in my horrifying appearance.
“Hey, Nate, right?”
“Who the hell are you?”
“New here. I have a delivery from Danny.” With that I held up the pistol, emptying five more into Nate’s chest.
