Chapter 75-A Special Little Boy
A moment later, there’s a knock on the door, and Noah enters with Leon’s mate, Karla, and his son, Mitchell. Ryna, Tony, and Rich come in behind them, closing the door.
“Daddy!” Mitchell squeals and runs into his father’s arms.
Leon kneels on the ground and hugs his son tightly. After a moment, he pulls back and smiles at his son. “Have you been a good boy?” He asks.
“Yes, Daddy. But I don’t like it here. When can we go home?” He says sadly.
“Why don’t you like it here? Has someone been mean to you?”
“No,” Mitchell pouts. “But I miss my toys.”
“I will make sure that one of my men will go and collect all of your toys for you,” I say softly, and it’s as if he hadn’t noticed me in the excitement to see his father, because he freezes, and turns to look at me with fearful eyes.
“This is Alpha Athena,” Leon explains to his son as he looks up at me. “You have nothing to fear from her, isn’t that right, Alpha?”
“Of course not,” I say with a soft smile. “You and your parents are safe here in my pack.”
“You’re... You’re different,” the small boy says as his lip trembles, and he can’t take his eyes off me.
“How so?” I ask. It looks like he wants to answer, but he hesitates, fidgeting with his fingers. I get down on my knees so that I’m at his level and pull in my aura slightly so that I’m less threatening. “There, is that better?” I ask.
He nods and then takes a deep breath. “I can tell from your voice,” he says, and then reaches up and places his hand on my cheek. “But you have a pretty light around you, and it’s very strong.”
I look at the boy curiously, and then ask his parents, “does your son have a witch in his bloodline?”
Karla looks around the room nervously as Leon stands and wraps his arm around her waist to comfort her.
“You have nothing to fear here, Karla. No matter the answer,” I tell her.
“You can believe her, Mommy,” Mitchell says, and I give him a smile.
Karla nods nervously. “Yes. His great-grandmother on my side.”
I point to Andreas. “Does he look different?” I ask Mitchell.
Mitchell looks to Andreas and nods. “Yes, but he’s not as strong as you,” he says, looking back at me, his small hand still on my cheek.
“Do you have this gift?” I ask Karla.
“No,” she shakes her head. “I wasn’t blessed with any gifts from my grandmother. Neither was my mother. But for some reason, she blessed my son.”
“Interesting,” I say. ‘*Cassia, can you please join us in conference room one*?’ I link her.
‘*I have the children with me. Should I bring them*?’ she links back, talking about the orphans found on the night of the massacre.
‘*Leave Grace and George with Leah. I have someone I’d like you to meet*.’
‘*Yes, Alpha*.’
I return my attention back to Mitchell. “I have someone very special I’d like for you to meet. Would that be okay?” I ask him.
He nods his head apprehensively.
“She’s very nice, I promise,” I say with a smile. “And then later, if it’s okay with your mother, you can play with the other children whilst my men retrieve your toys.”
He looks up at Karla pleadingly, and she gives him a tight smile and nods.
“Is there anyone else in here with a special light around them?” I ask him curiously.
He looks around the room at Noah, Rich, and Tony. He looks them up and down and cocks his head to the side. “You can trust them,” he says, pointing to three of them.
“Do they have a special light around them?” I ask.
“No, just a normal werewolf light. But when they look at you, it turns white. They believe in you,” he says matter-of-factly.
I give the three men a big smile and sigh happily. “These three men are very special to me,” I say, and they grin widely back at me at the compliment from their Alpha.
“They are special.” He agrees. “You need to keep them close in the big fight. Having them by your side will be the difference between winning and losing,” he says, and we all look back to him in surprise.
“What do you mean?” I ask.
He shrugs. “They will protect you, and you will protect them. You need to keep the Crescent warriors close to you. Harry will also be a big part of the fight to come. They all will.”
We all look at each other, the shock clear on everyone’s faces. Then our attention turns to Karla and Leon. But they look just as shocked.
“How do you know this?” I ask Mitchell.
He shrugs again. “I can see it.”
Before I can ask anything further, there’s a quiet knock on the door, and Cassia enters the room.
I nod to Cassia as I stand up, and she stares at the boy with a knowing grin.
“Mitchell, this is Luna Cassia. She’s special like you,” I tell him, and Cassia comes over and kneels in front of him.
He looks at her with a big toothy grin, and she places her forehead to his. After a moment, she leans back, and Mitchell jumps in her arms and gives her a tight hug.
“Mommy! She’s like me!” He says excitedly, pulling back from Cassia and running to his mother and hugging her legs.
“That’s wonderful, darling,” Karla says.
“His great-grandmother is a witch,” I explain to Cassia. “How could he tell you’re like him?” I ask.
“Our auras,” she explains. “All supernatural’s have different auras. Ours are a little different because we’re hybrids,” she says, looking over the boy as if she’s studying him. “But his...” she stops, holding her hand out for Mitchell, and he takes it happily. “There’s more, isn’t there?” She asks him.
He nods.
“Tell Cassia what you said about the Crescent warriors,” I say to him.
“Oh, they’re very special. They will never leave the Alpha, and they have to be with the Alpha during the big fight, otherwise she will lose,” he explains.
Cassia’s eyes widen, and she places her hands on the boys’ cheeks. “You have the gift of foresight,” she says excitedly.
“What’s that?” he asks, his brow furrowed.
“You can see things that might happen in the future,” Cassia explains to him. “Is there anything else you see about the big fight?” She asks.
“No,” he says with a shrug. “Just their marks glowing.”
“Their mate marks?” I ask, confused, knowing most of them aren’t mated.
“No, Alpha,” he chuckles. “The moons on their chests.”
Noah pulls his shirt down to show Mitchell the crescent moon he carved into his skin. “This mark?” He asks.
Mitchell nods. “If Alpha Athena makes the same mark, it will join all of you to her,” he explains.
“Join them to me, how?”
“I don’t know. I can’t see that,” he says.
Cassia stands and walks over to me. “This is a very special gift. No one else should know about this,” she says, whispering in my ear. “It could put him in danger.”
I nod and kneel back down in front of Mitchell. “I need you to make me a promise. Do you think you can do that?” I ask him with a small smile. He nods and gives me his toothy grin. “I need you to promise me you won’t tell anyone else about your gifts. The people in this room, and your parents, are the only people we can trust with this secret,” I say, trying not to scare him.
“I know. I’ve told no one, not even Mommy and Daddy.”
“Why did you tell us?” Andreas asks.
“Because I know you’re safe,” he says. “But you also needed to know. You have to win the big fight, Alpha,” he says with sad eyes.
I smile and ruffle his hair, making him giggle. “I promise I will do everything I can to win the fight,” I say, then I give Leon a look to let him know his time is over, and he gives me a solemn nod and turns to his wife. “The Alpha and I need to talk now. Take care of my boy. I’ll see you soon,” he whispers to her and hugs her tightly.
“Why can’t you come with us, Daddy?” Mitchell asks, his eyes welling up.
“I have to stay and help Alpha Athena. I’ll join you as soon as I can,” he tells him as he lifts him up and hugs him tightly.
“Can’t my daddy come with me, Alpha Athena?” He turns in his father’s arms to ask me.
“Not right now...” I say as a wave of nausea washes over me, and I start to feel weird tingles over my body.
“Athena?” Andreas rushes to my side, sensing something’s wrong.
I shake my head, the nausea passing as quickly as it came, but it feels like something cold has settled in my stomach.
“Why are you blocking me?” Andreas asks.
“What? I’m not,” I tell him, confused, as I hold my stomach.
“I can’t sense your emotions anymore,” he says, looking at me concerned.
“She’s changed,” Mitchell says, fearfully. “Mommy, I want to leave,” he says with a sob, reaching for Karla.
“What’s happening?” Andreas asks, looking at me, as if trying to see what Mitchell can see.
“I... I don’t know,” I say. ‘Enyo, can you feel what’s happening?’ I try to ask her, but I realize I can’t even feel her.
“Alpha?” Cassia says, taking a step forward, but stops when Mitchell grabs her arm. She looks at him, and he shakes his head.
“She’s not the Alpha anymore,” he says as he cries. “It’s the same thing that happened to Alpha Costas.”
I look at him in confusion as the icy feeling in my stomach spreads throughout my body. Before I can say anything, everything starts to go dark, and I pass out.
Or so I thought.
