Chapter 79-Are We Safe Yet?

Gino and I race through the halls of the hospital, running past dazed staff and pack members, to get to Athena’s room. As we reach the door, we can hear shouting, and my stomach drops thinking about what she’s done.
I barge through the door and skid to a stop when I see a pissed-off Enyo standing on the hospital bed. It buckles under her weight as she turns towards me, and her demeanor instantly changes as she dives on top of me. I try to brace my fall, but I land with a thud as Enyo starts licking my face.
“Enyo!” I say with a laugh as I try to stop her onslaught, my face wet from her licks. She stops licking me finally and barks happily at me, and Ares howls with happiness in my mind.
‘I can feel her!’ He says happily as he prances around in my mind, and I have to hold him back before he takes over.
“Enyo, what happened?” I ask.
I feel her body stiffen as she looks at me with sadness in her eyes. She lifts her head and sniffs the air, and her head turns to Ryna.
It’s then that I see Ryna cowering in the corner of the hospital room. I hear Enyo whimper, and she gets down low on the ground and starts crawling towards him. She slows down when she hears him whimper, and whimpers again in return. He turns to face her, visibly still shaken from earlier, and watches as his best friend does something an Alpha rarely does.
He turns away from her, and I have to hold back a growl at the disrespect he’s just shown her. “Don’t take what she’s doing lightly, Ryna,” I say through gritted teeth. “I understand you’re still upset about earlier, but an Alpha rarely lowers themselves to a pack member like this.”
He looks to me, then back to Enyo as she gets closer and holds out her paw in front of her, with her head down, as she begs for forgiveness. He wipes the tears from his face as he clears his throat and then reaches his shaky hand out to place it on her paw.
I hear a commotion in the hallway, and then the door slams open, causing Ryna to jump back in fear as the crescent warriors burst into the room. They all gasp when they see Enyo’s position in front of Ryna.
“What’s happening?” Tony asks, and Enyo turns to him as well.
When she starts crawling towards him as well, my heart swells with pride for her. She’s begging for his forgiveness, too.
Tony slowly kneels in front of her, and when she reaches him, he lifts her head to his, placing his forehead on hers.
“There’s nothing to forgive, Alpha,” I hear him whisper.
“What are you all doing here?” I ask them.
“We heard our Alpha roar and came running,” Leah says. “Tony, you need to get changed. Your ass is flapping in the breeze with that hospital gown on,” she says with a laugh.
Tony blushes as he stands and gathers the gown in his hands to cover himself.
“And why are you out of bed?” I ask Tony.
“What Leah said, Alpha. I nearly fell out of bed from her roar. I had to see what was happening,” he explains.
I look at the Doc and ask, “What did happen?”
“I have no bloody idea what happened. Athena was lying there unconscious when suddenly, her body started shaking and she started to roar. Then she shifted.” He says with a confused shrug.
Enyo stands and looks around the room. ‘Everyone come in and close the door. We need to talk,’ she says through the mind link.
The warriors shuffle into the room and close the door as I crouch next to Enyo.
“Is Athena okay? I ask.
‘She’s in timeout for now. She’s groggy and still not completely conscious.’ Enyo explains.
“What happened today, Alpha?” Noah asks.
‘I don’t know, but there was a voice in our head.’
“What?” Everyone gasps.
‘First, there was a wave of nausea. Then, a coldness settled over us. Then a voice.’
“What did the voice say?” Leah asks.
‘It told us to kill you all.’

Enyo finishes telling us everything sometime later, and I sit here in shock, not sure what to say.
I look at Doc Apollo, and he looks as perplexed as I do. “Doc?”
“I… I need to investigate this. It could be a few things.” He says worriedly.
“Like what?” Ryna asks.
“She could have something like schizophrenia. The voice in her head concerns me. But it could have something to do with the curse of the Chosen. I don’t know.” He says as he starts pacing the room. “Goddess, for all I know, all the Chosen from the previous generations had schizophrenia,” he says, throwing his hands up in frustration. “The council getting rid of everything has really screwed us.” He says angrily.
I sigh, “Speak of this to no one,” I instruct everyone. “No one can know about any of this until we have some answers.”
“But Alpha, that could put everyone at risk!” Ryna says angrily. “She tried to kill me today! She killed Leon! And she was ready to kill everyone in that conference room, including you! Her own mate!”
“ENOUGH!” I roar. “We still haven’t spoken to Athena about what happened. If there is a threat to the pack, we will deal with it! Understood?!”
Ryna nods his head, but crosses his arms, letting me know he’s not happy with my decision.
“Anyone else have anything to add?” I ask the room angrily.
“No, Alpha,” they answer together.
“Enyo, can you keep Athena from shifting until we feel she’s in control?” I ask her.
She nods her head. ‘She’s extremely weak. I can keep her and everyone safe.’
“Right,” I say, turning back to the others. “We still have preparations to take care of for the Silver-Moon pack's arrival. And we still don’t know how many else will be returning as well. We need to ensure we have enough rooms and housing for those that do. Everyone get back to work,” I order them.
Everyone nods and starts leaving the room. Ryna and Gino leave as well, taking a wide path to avoid Enyo. When the Doc tries to leave as well, I grab his arm and shake my head.
“We need to talk.”
He nods and closes the door.
“We have a visitor coming to the pack soon. I can’t say who, but we need answers, Doc. We need them desperately.”
“I don’t even know where to start, Alpha. I can contact the council to see if there’s any information…”
I cut him off. “Don’t contact the council. Elder Laskaris has his own issues at the moment, and we don’t want the high council getting wind of this.
‘Andreas?’ Athena says through the mind link.
‘Athena! Baby! You’re conscious!’ I mind link excitedly.
‘What happened?’ She asks groggily.
‘Docs here. I need you to tell us both the last thing you remember,’ I tell her.
‘I remember being in the conference room. I was talking to Mitchell, and he was asking if Leon could go with him. I remember a wave of nausea and you talking to me. You said I was blocking your emotions?’
‘That’s right, what else?’
‘I remember feeling cold… And then nothing. It’s just black. Did I pass out?’
Doc and I look at each other, and Enyo lets out a whimper.
‘Not exactly…’ I say, rubbing my neck.
‘Wait. Why is Enyo in control?’
‘Well… She’s keeping you and everyone safe…’ I trail off.
‘Safe from what?’
‘From you,’ Enyo whimpers.
