Chapter 65
'Sir, please, what can be done to bail him. He can't sleep in cell. He is too old to." Katherine tried to convince the Commissioner but he looked even more not interested.
'Sorry Miss, there is absolutely nothing i can do. It is all in Mr. Rex's hand. Since it was all against him and the confession proved it. Mr. Rex will be the best person to ask that. And i guess you know the result already." he looked her up and down before turning to leave. Katherine just watched him walk away. When Rex's name was mentioned, she felt scared. Like her nightmares were coming true. It was the worst feeling ever. What was she going to do? Suddenly, she turned back.
Katherine talked with some officers and they granted her access to meet with ken. She was walking along side an officer, and when the door flipped opened, she felt sorry for him. She ran to him and checked his body like she was some sort of medical professional. There she saw some bruises on him and furrowed her brow.
'Rex!" She whispered under her breath. She was so annoyed. If it wasn't for Rex, she would have gotten the company and also won't be undergoing all the stress.
'How are you my dear?" ken asked as Katherine wrapped her hand around ken. Though she always complained but, she loved him so much. He has been there all her life. For him to spend a day in cell, was heartbreaking.
'I am not fine." Katherine replied honestly, 'I wish you could come home with me. But why did you go that far? Though I know you always wanted to assist me and help me through my challenges but Rex is like a devil. It would be difficult for anyone to do something to him and go scot free with it." She had to air her thoughts, not minding if the officer could hear her, 'But I will surely get you out of here, through one means or the other." She swore and held tight onto his hand.
'Time's up! You may leave now miss." The office approached the desk.
*. *. *.
Rex drove straight home. He was so excited about everything. From the shock on their faces when he walked back in and when the old criminal was arrested. He drove pass his gate and stepped out of his car.
'Welcome sir!" A man greeted with a bow.
'Yeah." The man on suit handed his boss's briefcase to the man.
Just as Rex was few steps away from entering his house, his phone rang and the man on suit, Jack, picked up the call.
'Yes, he is here." Jack responded and handed the phone over to his boss, 'It is the Commissioner of Police, sir." He added.
'Hello, my friend. What news do you have for me already?" Rex asked as he suspected the result was out but, certainly it was too soon. He couldn't believe it.
'We got the old man to confess his crime. And right now, I have sent some of the officers to go in search of his allies. The game was a big one. He truly wanted your downfall. You should be careful. And he claimed his Madam, Miss Katherine, has nothing to do with it." The Commissioner said over the phone.
Rex smile was bold and he just smirked. ken was a loyal master from what he saw and if Katherine had any hand in it, he won't mention. From the research done, he has been with Katherine ever since she was a little girl. They were like father and daughter. On most of her pictures, he was seen together with her and all her celebrated occasions, the man was present. Then, how on Earth was he going to drag Katherine along.
Rex thought for a while. It was actually good. Since the truth was out, he could use the old man to control Katherine into stepping down. It was better and preferable. It was the best idea ever. His smile was evil, even Jack felt uncomfortable and swallowed hard.
'That is good!" Rex finally answered.
'And again, Mrs. Katherine came to the station and tried to make her way through. Though she has nothing to do with the case according to her secretary, i still asked some men to keep an eyes on her. Just incase she tries anything funny." The commissioner was sincere. He somehow hated Katherine for her manners. She has respect for no one and talking about her gets him annoyed just thinking about what she said to him at the station. She concluded it to be a bribe. He was a man of dignity and he knew Rex too well. Though Rex was a scarecrow, he won't dare to go against the law.
'Uhmm... She did?!" Rex placed his other hand into his pocket. He has been standing at the entrance for long. He didn't mind. As far as it was good news, he felt rather excited.
'Yes sir. But do not worry yourself too much." The commissioner suggested.
'Thank you." Rex remembered the officers that arrested him, 'I hope the officers were the once that interrogated him?" He asked and the Commissioner burst out laughing.
'I heard about everything and yes. I assigned them to join me. The female officer that pointed her gun at you did a job well done. I love her zeal to eliminate unlawful acts and her intolerance to crimes." The commissioner stated.
'Okay then." Rex said and sighed, 'Thanks once again."
'Always at your service." The commissioner pledged before the call ended.
Everything in me was telling me to run after her. To chase her down, make her see my reasons, but I knew that wouldn't work with her. Forcing Katherine to do anything would only further push her far away for the opposite reason.
She had been telling me from the beginning that she needed space, so I planned on giving it to her.
First day, second day, and now the third day.
It felt like dying a slow death, but we both needed it—her to think and me to get my shits together.
I walked into the packhouse because I wanted to see her and not because I wanted to talk to my beta and zeta like I claimed—that was my silly excuse to see her one more time for the night.
"You called us," Theodore started when we were all seated on the three-seater couch in the packhouse living room.
"Yeah, I did," I answered bemusedly.
"Why?" Violet flared. For reasons unknown to me, shesusan's been acting weird lately. Always on the tip of her tolerance if you ask me.
I opened my mouth to speak, but my words disappeared in my throat when Katherine suddenly appeared out of nowhere, looking fresh and clean. Her thin flawless legs were left on display, and so also was her belly button. She was wearing a sporty nude color with green striped Nike shorts and a matching crop tank top.
The urge to run my tongue across her belly button was overwhelming. I became speechless as I watched her form. I swallowed and swallowed until there was no more saliva in my mouth. I wanted to hold her in my arms, but I refrained from touching her. Hell, my look was subtle because I didn't want to be caught or to come off as too strong. I struggled to keep my face neutral, but that didn't stop her from eyeing me curiously. Or maybe the rising dough in-between my legs was what made her hesitant.
"When you're down gawking at her and ready to talk, you can call me. I'm off," said Violet irritably, stood up, and began to walk her quarters.
I cleared my throat, and that made her stop. "I was about to send for Katherine because what I have to say concerns her, but since shesusan's here, I'll go ahead " my words captured Katherinesusan's attention, and she turned to look at me.
"What did I do this time?" She snarled.
"I think the right question is what ‘am I about to do this time'," I said, emphasizing the last eight words of my sentence.
"I don't understand," Katherine replied, looking at me as though she was searching for something in my eyes.
"Neither do i," Theodore chirped in, looking truly confused for the first time since I had known him.
Theresusan's always a first time for everything
"I'm allowing Katherine to leave," I said, and everywhere turned serene. Not even the sound of our heartbeat was heard.
"You might have to say that again. I don't think I heard you clearly the first time," Theodore said and shifted on his seat as though something suddenly stung him in his butts.
"Since Katherine came into the cresent moon pack, her greatest wish hadn't wavered—her desire to leave had been so strong. And now, I'm granting her wish. 'I turned to Katherine and said, "you can let me know when you want to leave or not, but I want you to be safe, so I'd appreciate it if you let me know when you'd leave. And if it doesn't seem like crowding your space, I spoke to some of our allied packs, and they agreed to let you come live with them. I want you to be safe—they are allies, so you should be safe" I finished my spiel, and they all looked astonished, especially Katherine. Litany of other emotions danced across her face, but I couldn't quite decipher what it was.
"Rex!" Theodoresusan's voice cut through in anger making everyone but myself and Violet flinch. "This wasn't what we agreed on," he further seethed.
"I know. But anything else, I want Katherine to be happy. I'll be a dick of an Alpha and a mate if I make her wither instead of making her glow and grow," I said, and a snicker from Violet greeted us all.
"Oops, sorry. Itsusan's just funny. Since when did you become a poet? WTF, Rex?" Another snicker erupted from Violetsusan's mouth, but she did quick work to end it.
"Can you guys please leave us alone?" Katherinesusan's little voice suddenly sounded heavy with authority and need? "Can we talk, please?" She asked quietly after Violet and Theodore left.
CHAPTER SIX
Alpha Rex pov
Katherine didn't look as happy as I expected her to be. Right from the first day she stepped foot into our pack as a rogue, her only greatest desire that she had made known to us repeatedly; even until It became her walking siren, like a reminder to us all and most especially to me, was the fact that she hated being my mate and wanted to "explore the world while belonging to no one" as she put it, living the way she wants. I thought taking Theodoresusan's idea would help build a relationship with Katherine, no matter how long it takes but she had this wall so strong around her and I feared not even I could bring it down or gain her trust. So I decided to do what I believed was right, I believed it was best to let her go and let her live her life to the fullest, she insisted she wanted it instead of letting me keep her in my pack. If I forced her, it would make it seem like I was caging her since she didn't want to stay... The other best option was to let her go.
Funny thing was that I still understood her, even though I had known her for quite a short time. I understood her to want to belong to no one, her desire to go wherever she wanted because growing up in a monastery made me understand and gave me the ability to relate to half of what she had gone through; the pain, the torture, the hatred for the moon goddess and her parents that abandoned her for no reason only to make her suffer. So I was going to let her go if thatsusan's what she so much wants for herself because I wouldn't want to be a part of the people she hates forever. Even though deep down, I wanted to feel that feeling called love and be loved by someone too.
Rex gave the phone back to Jack before entering his house. He was tired and needed to bath. At least, to chill a little from all the drama of the day. He was tired but not tired. Infact, ever since Katherine came into the picture, it has always been one drama or the other. His only excitement was the fact that, he was leading. He was once a bit scared at Katherine because she was different from other women. She looked serious and acted so. But with their stupid moves, he knew their failure was near.
