Chapter 84

"I need to find other ways to find the person behind this threats and at the same time, make sure he doesn't get Katherine. I feel like I know where this is going to." He rested his chin on his hand and mumbled with his gaze fixed on a particular person on his laptop screen.

still looking at the picture, " I need a way to kill two birds with a single stone.
Whoever is doing this must be the best of the best for my men not to be able to track him down since all these while
But he really do have a lot of guts to mess with me"he said and turned to the window but his hand already pressed something on his laptop and a smile crept on his face.
" If my men can't, I have one who will!" He mumbled.
Katherine's villa...
Katherine woke up the next morning with a lot of energy and many strategies on her mind for her victory. Her mind had gone through many ordeals through the night and she couldnt wait to deal with the stubborn jerk she was contesting with.


She wasn't going to step down for Rex at least, to prove her point. She wasn't desperate about the company at first but Rex reactions had made her very desperate and she would win at all cost!.
He was so wrong to belittle her and she was more than he can ever acknowledge but she knew she had to prove that to make him understand and she was ready to..
she was in love! Yes! She was truly in love with him but she wouldn't let that cloud her mind and make silly mistakes toward him. Love can be pushed aside for a while, while they face each other like real competitors and see who wins!.

While she was thinking of the perfect strategy to get the position from Rex, someone knocked at her door.

"Who is it,I'm kind of busy right now!"she shouted as she picked her laptop from the table right beside her bed and faced it.

"Sorry to disturb you, Miss. But, there's a message for you!" The maid replied from outside the door.

Katherine paused for a while but it was only for a short while before she continued with what she was doing. "From who?"she asked, still not wanting anyone or anything to disturb her. ken was no longer with her and her new PA still needed some training before he could resume. So, she needed to do her planning herself for now.
Even though he looked so much like ab experienced person, Katherine still could not risk it because her partner was no small fry!.

"Seems to be from a Mr Rex" The maid said, checking the letter to see if she missed any details.

Katherine was stunned for a while and her fingers that were pressing her laptop stopped! "Come in!"she muttered as she raised head, wondering why Rex would send her a package.
The door opened and the maid came in with the letter in hand.

"Here it is, ma'am" The maid said, stretching forward the letter to Katherine.

Katherine looked at the letter for a while before she collected it and asked her maid to leave so that she could check the letter. She had a feeling it would be something that would piss her off again but why was her heart beating with excitement as she hled the letter?
"Thanks, you may leave." she told her maid

The maid nodded and bowed before leaving the room.

"What the hell does the great Mr Rex want from me early this morning?"she mumbled as she unsealed the beautifully decorated envelope to see the content.

« Dear, Miss Katherine ,
Wish to have a rendezvous with you at street 4 in five stars restaurant today at 5:00pm.
Will be glad if you can spare me few minutes out of your busy schedule.
Your dear handsome, Mr Rex. »

"What makes him sure I'll be in attendance,we can never work things out if he doesn't learn to watch the hole he calls a mouth"She said with a scoff immediately after reading the letter but then, something clicked in her head and she widened her eyes.
" My dear Handsome? My dear Handsome?" She asked herself as if she was being pressed with hot iron and she chuckled before kissing the letter.

She had her bath as quick as possible as she could no longer concentrate with what she was doing after the reading the letter from Rex and then, she proceeded downstairs to have her breakfast.
The maids were serving her as she stared blankly at a flower vase opposite her .

"Should I attend his rendezvous or not? there's nothing more to talk about if he will keep on acting like a jerk. He keeps annoying me whenever we meet.
He won't even look at me no matter how beautiful I dress." She kept mumbling to herself and lamenting.
" Maybe he has something meaningful to say or he is ready to talk like a normal opponent. I should just go and hear him out~"
She thought.

"Ma'am, your food is served"the maid said jolting her back to reality.

"Oh thanks "she replied, facing her food and ready to eat.
Her mind drifted back to Rex and his perfect body,his body was so appealing and perfect while his character was so disgusting.

"Snap out of this+ I can't be thinking about Rex in this manner. He's my opponent and a jerk also" she said to herself and sighed .

"I should go and hear what he says and if he says anything annoying, I promise to teach him a big lesson". She added and took her mind off him.

She finished with her breakfast and decided to stay at home since she had nothing doing before Rex's rendezvous but her mind just wouldn't calm down and it was giving her serious headache!.

" I should do something to keep myself busy." She said to herself and decided to spend her time talking to Nancy since she hasn't call her in a long time.
She dragged herself up and picked her phone from the nearest table to her. She searched for her best friend, Nancy's number and gave her a call.

"Hello Nancy!"she said with a smile.

"Hey baby girl! what are you doing?" Nancy asked in an extremely surprised tone because Katherine hardly call her nowadays.

"I was just less busy and I decided to check up on you you" Katherine replied, resting in her bed.

"Wow that's new!" Nancy said excitedly. "Did anything interesting happen?oh wait! did Rex ask you out?"she said with so much excitement in her voice that one would think she was just proposed to by her biggest crush.

"Eeeeww No!. I can never be in a relationship with that jerk" Katherine mumbled with disdain in her voice.

"Why do you hate him that much?" Nancy asked even though she knew her best friend was only pretending.

"I don't hate him,he's just always on my nerves telling me to step down because I am a woman and Stand no chance against him"she said with her voice full of frustration.

Nancy was silent for a while. "Just calm down girl. Take things slow and don't push yourself too hard. if it's really what you want, I trust you and I know you'll get it" Nancy tried to encourage her.


"Thanks for the encouragement baby but I got to admit Rex is actually a worthy opponent. It's going to be hard to defeat him.
Loosing is not a word in his vocabulary"she said .
"Wow he's such an angel! I see no reason you shouldn't like such a big win like him!" Nancy cheered, teasing her friend.

"Angel? No, he's not! he's like a devil, so stubborn and very cold guy"she said like she knew Rex in and out.
"I'm sure you just don't understand him,maybe he has worked so hard for years and he's supposed to head the company but then you came into the picture to compete with him,it's not that easy Katherine. He must be really mad that you disrupt his plan and made him start from the very start again. " Nancy said what she thought and Katherine's face lit up!

"Wow! I never thought of it that way but can't he just tell me nicely?"she said defending herself.

"Not everyone is touchy feeling and can express their emotions. some people prefer to be cold and that's the way they express themselves. Then again, would you have agreed if he had told you to step down even after explaining to you? You won't, my dear." Nancy kept correcting her best friend and defending Rex.

"I guess so."she said in a sad voice,she never imagined this is what Rex must be going through but why should she care?


"Just think this through and make sure your decision isn't affecting someone else and make sure you don't step down for him, okay? Even if you love him, you still must show him you ain't like any other woman and you are strong..."

Nancy muttered over the phone with vigor in her voice and Katherine nodded.
"Thanks for the advice, Nancy. But, I have a meeting by 5 so I have to go now. I'll call you when I get back, okay?" Katherine said lazily, ready to end the call. She thought she would get better after calling her best friend but she only got more confused about her feelings for Rex.

"Okay then, don't forget everything I discussed with you." Nancy said finally.

"Okay ... I won't" Katherine replied and and ended the call.

"What shall I wear?I want something beautiful and at the same time casual... I need to put on something very good and elegant.." She kept mumbling to herself while looking at the mirror.

She opened her closet, searched through her best of gowns and she picked the best outfit for the evening. It was a very expensive short red gown she just got for an interview she did a month ago. It was so expensive that ken nearly went crazy when he heard about it and but she was so glad she got it then because it came in handy right now.
She put it on and moved to check herself in the mirror but it wasn't good enough in her eyes... "Nah... too short!" she said and pulled it off.

She put on a white middle length gown again and shook her head in disagreement.
"Nope, too innocent. I'll look innocent and gentle. He won't even look at me if I have this on. " she mumbled to herself and put off the gown for the fourth time.

She rummaged her closets and put on a short belted red gown,, it had normal and high end designs and it screamed of wealth!.
"Perfect! Its just the aura I need. this is just right! "she said, admiring herself . She truly looked beautiful!.

She combed her curly black hair till it was all bouncy and fell on her shoulders, giving her the rich elegant look of a royal princess!.

She put on a pair of red shoes and a black bag to compliment her hair.
She looked so beautiful and sharp,a powerful aura that followed her anywhere she went but still she looked so delicate. She was sure to capture every heart she met with today!.

She went down stairs, ready to go for the rendezvous but she saw ken in the living room reading some papers and she stopped in her track..

"I'm going for a meeting, I won't stay long"she said and rolled her eyes secretly as she made for the door. ken still continued to doubt her that she slept with Rex to release him.

"A meeting?"ken asked, looking up at her.

"Yes, A meeting. Any problems with that?"she questioned back, not wanting to continue the conversation.

"Of course not, but don't you think your dressing is too...." he wanted to complain that her dressing was too much but she was quick to cut him off.

"You have no right to tell me what and what I can wear! besides I've gotten a new assistant and he'll be resuming on Monday so I don't need your assistance! " Katherine flared up and left the house, slamming the door.
" He still thinks he can talk with me after making a fool of me and even doubting me?!" She lamented as she stormed toward her car.

ken was so shocked to hear Katherine talk to him that way and he couldn't utter a word as he just stared at the closed door in awe.
"My services are no longer needed"he mumbled sadly and sighed bitterly. It was a sad evening for him after all!.

Katherine drove straight down to the location and stopped at the restaurant's car park. She entered the restaurant but she realized it was empty and she noticed Rex immediately as he was sitting in the vip section.


She walked toward him elegantly and proudly...
"Hello, Mr Rex!"she greeted as she took a seat opposite him.

Rex looked up at her and was shocked by her looks
"Wow, you look different today. what's the occasion? Are you visiting your boyfriend today or do you have a date?" Rex said, teasingly.

"Enough of this, what do you want us to talk about?" she asked, acting like she had something doing and was really busy when she wasn't.
Rex shrugged and decided to start the conversation. "Well..."he was cut short by the sound of a bullet which flew directly over his head.

"What the hell! "he mumbled , looking around to see who shot it but there was no one at all!.

"What's happening? "Katherine asked panicking..

Immediately, Ray ran in with Rex's bodyguards.
"What happened?! we heard a gunshot! Are you okay, Rex?! " Ray asked, looking so flushed and scared as he searched his friend over and over again with concern filled eyes.

Rex searched his pocket and found his gun " I'm coming! He shouted and ran off!.
" where are you going?!" Katherine shouted worriedly but Rex didn't even bother to look back as he ran like a thunderbolt toward a room.
Katherine clenched her fist tightly...
" Is someone after Rex's life?"she thought to herself. She knew about it before but she never thought it was this worst.

"I'm so sorry, Miss Katherine, for the disturbance. we'll fix another date for the rendezvous and my guard will escort you home so your mind can be at peace.."
Ray muttered and he walked out of the restaurant with some of his guards and the remaining were to escort her home. He was going to search the environment to see where the silly men hid themselves.

She stood up and the guards followed her,opened her car for her and drove her home. She wanted to protest! She wanted to stay and find those men with them but she couldn't afford to be an hindrance to their search.

Immediately she got, home she went up to her room.
"What's going on?is Rex in danger? that bullet could have killed him?"she said worriedly.

She picked up her phone to call if he was alright, this was her first time calling Rex and it was because their ego was always ahead of them.

She dialed his number and he picked the call almost immediately.
"Hello"he said in his thick masculine voice.

"Hi" she said unaware of how to start a conversation even though she was so worried.

"What do you want?"he said dryly.

"Nothing actually,I just wanted to ask if you were fine and thank you for the escort"she said uncertain of her emotions.

"I'm okay and about the guards, it's fine. I don't want you dead, you know?"he said in a playful voice..

"Well goodnight then"she said calmly.

"Good night Miss Katherine"he said and ended the call.

She felt a warm feeling after talking to Rex,she felt a feeling she couldn't explain. He doesn't want me dead? It felt so warm to her ears.

"What's wrong with me?"she said, putting her hand on her forehead.

She had her shower and lied down in her bed,she couldn't help but ponder on what happened today.

It then came to her mind "Who is after Rex's life?".
Ray walked into Rex's office
"I've gotten all the information you need sir"Ray said.
"Good,so what did you find out"he said tapping his hands aggressively on the table.

"He has two children. a boy and a girl and his wife is presently pregnant"Ray said as he looked at him master's face for a signal if he had to continue.

"Continue"Rex said coldly.

"His name is Jake and he just moved into a new apartment with his family last week and he resigned as the treasurer of his company. According to his wife,he has been away from home for the past three days" Ray said and paused.

"Anything more?" Rex asked with a brutal look on his face. The man had really stepped on his nerve for what they did yesterday!. He had captured and killed six men in the room yesterday but his anger never subsided!.

"He has been on drugs for sometime and he actually loves his family so much"Ray added.

"Exactly what I needed, how old is he?"Rex asked with an evil smile.

"He is 32 years old sir and today is his son's birthday" Ray replied with a slight smile on his face. He too had became merciless after he nearly lost his best friend yesterday!.

"Perfect!. bring them to me. If I'm going to get that asshole to talk his family needs to be on the line" Rex said and smirked.

"Is it necessary for his wife to be here?she's heavily pregnant"Ray asked with sympathy. He didn't want to hurt a pregnant woman and he knew Rex wasn't merciless either but only got shaken by what happened yesterday.

Rex returned a deadly glare at Ray ...

"I'll be right back!" He quickly said and hastingly left the room..

"I'll be sure to make him talk"Rex muttered to himself coldly.

In a very dark room, the man captured was tied on a chair and surrounded by Rex's guards.

Rex had a long whip in his hand and a black mask on his face. .
"Who sent you?"he asked, sending a whip to the man's bare back.

"Aggh"the man shouted in pain and gritted his teeth.

"Talk!" Rex shouted, sending another stroke of the whip.

"I don't know.."the man replied arrogantly. The beating and all didn't matter to him at all and he was enduring it well even though he was almost battered up.
"You're still not ready to talk, huh you? you must have sworn an oath or so, right?" He asked, placing his leg on the man's toes and pressing them down.

"I'm serious! I don't know who he is!" the man shouted in pain,his face was bleeding and his back was swollen.

"And you expect me to believe that? ,you don't Know who sent you but you want to kill me? " Rex questioned with a raised brow as he kicked the man on his chest.

"Please have mercy!,I don't know who he is!" The man said as he coughed out blood due to the aggressive kicking.

"I see you're not ready to comply with me, Ray!"Rex called out.

Ray came in with the heavily pregnant woman blindfolded as she cried in fear.
She was the man's wife!.

"What are you doing with my wife?" the man asked with fear in his eyes.

"Watch and see!" Rex collected a gun from one of his guards and pointed it at his wife.

"What....are you doing?"the man asked stammering and with clenched teeth.

"I give you 10 minutes to tell me who sent you or I will shoot your wife!" Rex shouted, aiming for her head.
"She has nothing to do with this please spare her"the man said shouting on top of his voice.

"1.."Rex started counting.

"I swear I don't know who he is , please let my wife go,the man said trying to free himself and save his wife..

"2...3....4..."Rex kept on counting with lack of emotions on his face.

"I beg you please don't do this"the man kept on begging.

"5...6...7..."Rex cocked the gun...

"If I tell you he'll kill me!"he man shouted admist tears!

"And If you don't tell me, I'll kill your family and then kill you! 8..9..." Rex said as he positioned the gun ready to shoot.

"Please"the man begged further.

"10."Rex said and was about to shoot.

"Wait!"the man shouted at the top of his voice.

"What?"Rex said without throwing an eye at him..

"I don't know who he is but I can take you to our hide out"the man said breathing heavily..

"Good enough"Rex said as he threw the gun to the floor.

"But you have to promise me that you will release my family right after I show you our hideout" The man bargained.

"I don't think you're in a position to make a deal"Rex said placing his leg on his laps.

"I can take you there when you're ready" The man said immediately.

"What's the location?"Rex asked already angry by his words..

"You can never get the location even if I tell you,I will have to show you" the man said with fear in his eyes as he looked at his wife.

"What ever, we'll check their out tommorow"Rex said leaving the room...

"What about my wife and my children, will they be safe?"the man asked Ray who stood behind his blindfolded wife.

"Yes they will but only if you cooperate." Ray replied and left the room and he was immediately followed by some of his men..

Rex entered his car along with Ray later on...
"Sir, do you think we can trust this man?,it could be a bloody trapa"Ray shouted, scared his best friend might fall into a trap.

"A man never lies when his family is on the line"Rex said with a smirk...

"I still think you should let us check it out while you stay behind Rex"Ray said still worried about his safety.

"I've made my decision and I'm ready for the worst"Rex said fearlessly and winked at his friend.

"But you know there is a meeting tommorow at the board and your absence will just give Katherine a point a head of you. What are you going to do concerning that?" He asked Rex with a raised brow.

"She can't win over me "he said with a tone of finality, indicating he didn't want to proceed with the conversation.

Ray retorted so as not to get on Rex's nerves and to also trust his friend's move.
The next day...
"Are you ready to take us to your damn hideout?"Rex asked the man impatiently.

"Do I have a choice? but where we are going is a very dangerous place and you going is at your own risk." The man said like he was trying to scare Rex.

"Did I tell you I'm a coward like the person that sent you?" Rex asked , a bit annoyed.. " when I get hold of him, I'll kill him and show you how ruthless i can be." Rex said with his face as scary as hell.


The drive took about 4 hours before they finally saw the residence ahead.
"Sir, are we sure he's not making this up?"Ray asked, still having an uncertain feeling about this.

"If he lies, not only his life will be on the line but also his family" Rex said loud enough for the man to hear...

They finally arrived at an isolated area,it looked like an abandoned community.
"Are you sure this is the area?"Rex asked the man, scanning the environment.

"Do I look like a child? of course this is the place, just keep on moving!."the man shouted desperately and he was slapped by one of the guards beside him for shouting on their boss.
He knew he would be killed sooner or later by the agency for revealing hide out but the slap really got him hard.
"One more word and I'll shoot you!"Rex said, already frustrated by the man's words.

"Do that and you won't have a lead to my master"the man named Jake said.

Jake on his side kept thinking of what will become of his life after he must have betrayed his master and what will become of his family incase he doesn鈥檛 see his master.
"I'm in a big mess,I won't make it out of this alive"he thought.

His wife had always told him to quit this dirty job but he just couldn鈥檛 because the cash was good and his only source of survival, and besides, their master had been fair to them and loved them like his sons even though they knew the love was all fake and he didn't care about what happened to them at all but the pay was so enticing that none of them cared.
He felt bad he had to do this and relieved at the same time.

He turned to Rex. .
"Do you know what may happen to me and my family if he finds out that i betrayed him?"the man asked fearfully.
His master was the wrong person to mess with and he knew that.
"He can't do anything when he is dead" Rex replied coldly.

"You really think it's easy to kill my master? you really don't know who you are up against". The man sneered.

They drove pass the church ,then they drove pass the cemetery few minutes later. they passed the market going foward to the North just as jake directed.

They turned left at a certain point ,jake asked Rex to untie him because they were getting closer and the place was well secured.

"You will have to stay low"Jake said as they arrived at a big building painted black.
"Fine, but you better don't try anything funny"Rex said as he hid behind the back sit..

After successfully gaining access to the building.
They got down and entered the main hall with Rex's men surrounding the area.

"Where the hell is your master?!"he yelled out immediately he entered the room.
All of the men were shocked to see a stranger enter the room because no one could ever find out this place or else they where brought here but they were quick to bring out their guns and pointed it at Rex.

"So you brought them here Jake?"Don their master's right hand man asked with a little smirk on his face.

"I'm sorry Don"Jake said bowing his head,he couldn't look into their eyes.

"Shut the fuck up and answer my question?!" Rex shouted, pointing the gun at Don.

"Didn't you tell them?"Don asked while laughing.

"Tell us what?" Rex asked with a raised brow as he cocked his head to the side, making sure not to drop his guard because he was sure the men were all fully trained.

"Our master can never be caught or killed, but he does know how to deal with betrayers"Don said as he dropped a smoke gord....

"where are they?" Rex said trying to locate them in the smoke.
