Chapter 36: The Fight
Harper’s POV
Asher stands from the bed, never taking his eyes off me. He looks confused and worried.
“What’s up? Have I done something wrong?” He asks, making his way over to me.
“I just ran into Drake in the hallway,” I say, taking a step back from Asher to create some space between us, “He told me he saw you and Zoey in the woods yesterday afternoon declaring your love for each other.”
Asher’s mouth drops open, “What?”
“He told me you two are planning on running away together.”
“That’s bullsh*t!” Asher shouts, running his hands through his hair.
I shrug, “I thought the same thing, too. But I didn’t see you yesterday until that night. You could’ve been anywhere.”
“I told you where I was,” Asher’s voice is low now, “Why don’t you believe me?”
I throw my hands into the air out of frustration, “I don’t know what to believe anymore.”
Asher begins to pace in front of me, “How many times have I told you I don’t have feelings for Zoey anymore? You know my heart belongs to you now.”
I want to believe him, but my brain feels like scrambled eggs.
“I can’t believe you’re believing what that guy says,” Asher says, stopping to face me.
“He did have a proposition for me.”
Asher scoffs, “Yeah? And what’s that?”
“He said if I let you and Zoey run away together, he will take control of this pack and help me become Alpha for my pack.”
I can see the heat rising up Asher’s neck, ready to explode any second.
“What do you think I’m doing!” he shouts, tugging at the ends of his hair.
“I know it sounds crazy,” I reply, “I didn’t believe that part.”
“Don’t believe anything he says,” Asher is beyond angry now, “Believe your husband.”
“You’re not really my husband, though.” That one is going to sting.
Asher scoffs and laughs at the same time, “You’re being ridiculous.”
“I’m being ridiculous?” I shout, “You’re the one who is still in love with their ex-girlfriend.”
Asher keeps running his hands through his hair in frustration, and if this conversation continues, he may end up with no hair.
“I’m not in love with her!” He shouts, moving to stand in front of me.
He looks down at me with fire in his eyes. Our height difference should be intimidating, but it’s not.
“I’m in love with you!” His voice echoes throughout the room.
My mouth hangs open in shock. Did he just admit to himself, and me, that he’s in love with me? I knew he had feelings for me, but I didn’t know he felt like this.
Asher is huffing, his chest rises and falls just as quick. We both stare at each other, our anger rising through the roof.
Without thinking, I grab Asher by the neck and pull him down until our lips crash together. He uses his hands to grip my hair, tight, as if I’m going to disintegrate into thin air. Our mouths move together so effortlessly.
Asher’s tongue teases my lips; I part them for him. When his tongue enters my mouth, it feels like an explosion has gone off in my stomach. The way he kisses is magical; I want to stay in this moment forever.
Asher begins walking backwards to the bed, using my hips to guide me. His fingers dig hard into my skin, but I love the pain. We both fall back on to the bed, our lips never breaking contact. I straddle his lap, feeling the soft skin hidden under his shirt with my wandering hands.
I let out a loud squeal when Asher’s teeth bite down on my bottom lip. I pull away, seeing a big cheeky smile spread across his face.
“Really?” I raise my eyebrow at him.
He nods his head, his bright eyes somehow darkening under my gaze.
He brings his hand up to grip the side of my neck, pulling me down to meet his lips. I smile when our lips touch. This is what I’ve wanted for so long; for this marriage to not be fake anymore. I want to be with Asher.
Asher’s fingertips graze the side of my hips, inching their way under my t-shirt. My skin feels like it’s on fire when he touches me, running his fingers over the curves of my hips.
His fingers travel to the hem of my shirt, slowly lifting it over my head. Asher stops for a moment, taking in the sight of my body. I grab his cheeks, forcing his eyes on mine.
“Are we really doing this?” I ask, a seductive smile forming on my lips.
His eyes are wide, telling me what I already know.
“I love you.”
The breath in my body is taken away with those three simple words. I bring my lips to his and we continue to undress each other.
---------------
Asher and I fall onto the bed next to each other, panting. My body is covered in sweat and I’m trying to control my breathing enough to talk.
I look over at Asher; his eyes are closed, and his chest is moving at a rapid pace. He looks so hot right now, I’m not sure how I’ll be able to focus after what we did.
“You’re checking me out again,” he mumbles, peeking open his eyes.
I laugh, rolling on my side to face him, “I’ll admit it this time.”
Asher smiles, showing his teeth, “You’re adorable.”
I laugh, lying down on the pillow. I stare at Asher’s beautiful face and admire the way his hair falls over his eyes, or the way his eyes sparkle when light hits them. Everything he does makes me smile.
“That was fun,” I say, running my fingers done the middle of his hard chest.
“Was that your first time?” Asher asks, watching the slow movement of my finger.
I chuckle, “Maybe. Was it not obvious?”
“With the way you move, I wouldn’t have guessed it,” he says, bringing his eyes to mine.
I blush under his gaze. He made me feel comfortable and loved the whole time; always asking if I was alright.
“You said something to me earlier,” I say, hoping he’ll remember what I’m talking about.
He smiles, putting both of his hands behind his head, “I vaguely recall what I said.”
I lean down, so our mouths are only inches away. His breath hits my lips in soft waves. I can tell he doesn’t know whether to kiss me or wait for me to speak.
I smile, watching his lips, “I love you, too.”
